If I can think of something, someone on reddit has already done a thorough analysis considering hundreds of things I didn't. What internally geared hub at what chainring:cog ratio would do well for a rim-brake bike for long bashing around mixed surface work? I anticipate fairly long moderate hills, and am willing to walk really steep (20%) stuff. I've done ok with a 1:1 ratio, but a little under that proves useful at the end of the day. I don't need high gears (I could get by with a 3.5:1 top end). Concept is to convert something newer, or build up my old 531 bike with IGH rear, dyno front, 38 mm tires, carbon seatpost, rando bars with aero bars, plastic mudguards. Something that I can ride fairly fast through headwinds, rain, mud. Mainly paved, sometimes Category 1 gravel (at home on that), carefully and rarely on Category 2 gravel, and with great swearing and having to get off on Category 3 gravel (with serious regret about my choice of route, along with great questioning about whether I'm developing dementia). Thanks much for any ideas/help/links/talking off the edge.

A few months ago I posted an article titled, Back to life, back to reality. It was my third guest writer post on 10,000km Arriba, and it was written by my mother. She explained how our 7-day cycle down the west coast of France changed her life. She had struggled with severe depression for four years, but on that journey, something changed for the better. Richard from 10 Adventures picked up a link I shared on Reddit and invited us on to his podcast to delve deeper into our journey. You can listen to the podcast episode below. If you enjoy it, please subscribe to 10,000km Arriba for more stories of adventure. A beautiful bicycle my wife acquired from a wonderful couple who were giving it away for free. The gentleman was the original owner; it was custom built for him by Alpine Cycles of Rockville, Maryland (possibly by Fred Kelley himself). Columbus SLX tubing, leather Avocet saddle, SunTour Superbe brake calipers, Shimano 105 shift levers, Deore XT derailleurs, 3TTT stem, a triple-chainring Sugino crankset, a Phil Wood bottom bracket and Phil Wood hubs laced to Mavic box-profile rims. They were thrilled it was going to someone who appreciated the significance of the bike and continue to ride and cherish it!

Rear derailleur got caught in the wheel again (don't know how it keeps happening on different bikes, not the bike I ride). Bike is 3/7 speed, has RD TX35 7-9 speed installed, can't source one on less than a week, but Amazon has RD FT35 6-7 speed on offer and delivered today, will it fit (short commute bike, does not matter if not all speeds work)? TX is marked as MTB use, FT description does not mention MTB at all - mounting should the compatible as both are Shimano, but I am not sure about form-factor, in one ebay listing it says ft35 is *Short Cage* while TX is *Long* ? Also what "*Front single use only*" mean ? Thanks

Yesterday my beloved secondhand mountain bike broke after 15 years of service and I am now looking for a new bike. A goal of mine is to cycle around Europe and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good bike that lasts. However for the mean time I'm looking for a cheap lightweight single gear bike to get me to and from work. Also what are the pros and cons of a single gear bike in your opinion?

Been looking for a cheap bike to do a single speed conversion. Is this bike any good/worth it? Seller asking $50 but said he's willing to negotiate. What do you guys think?

2nd try at this brutal race, improved my riding time by 12min, but took longer brakes and therefore was slower by 1min in total. Still happy with the result - rank 403/1000 and 151/273 in my age group. Weather was great despite the forecast and the region is beautiful to ride. However, I'm not sure I'm doing that again 😅

I’ve seen posts on Reddit from 2 years ago of guys cycling through late in the day when construction has ended. Can you do that now?

I'm riding a tandem from Portland to San Francisco starting this Thursday (July 27, 2023) and am looking for people who want to ride sections of it with me! I'll be taking the Oregon coast down to the California coast. ([https://www.oregon.gov/odot/programs/tdd%20documents/oregon-coast-bike-route-map.pdf](https://www.oregon.gov/odot/programs/tdd%20documents/oregon-coast-bike-route-map.pdf)). Let me know if you'd like to join for some of the trip! I'll have everything needed for camping and riding (tent, two sleeping bags/pads, cookgear, tools/spares). Bring clothes, flat shoes, and stoke. The tandem stoker should fit anyone 5' 4" to probably 6' 1" [Don't make me do this the whole way](https://preview.redd.it/p80ldwt9eudb1.png?width=1022&format=png&auto=webp&s=7ae3c3dd2bf3cd5c50e8d6e2567113813365309e)
