Free Country: Cheap MTB Shorts To Avoid Going Broke I refuse to justify purchasing multiple pairs of overpriced shorts from the usual mountain bike brands that will literally be put under the worst conditions. Although these are mountain bike dedicated shorts, I find cheaper shorts just as practical and resistant as the brands we’d usually buy for mountain biking. Surprisingly, while...

Looking to build up a SSCX / thrasher bar bike. Something with close to zero maintenance and low stealability that I don't getting grimy and scratched. Leaning toward an old 26" rigid MTB from the 80s or 90s if I can find one with close to horizontal dropouts for a SS build. Preference for lugs if I can, but I'll take what's out there. Thanks!

So I came here asking how it would be to ride my new full suspension mtb on roads and I got comments saying that it would be torture and that it would be a general pain. This made sense at the time but when I did a 50km cycle today I found that because I had more gearing I could get up hills easier and go down hills faster, the suspension made the road buttery smooth (not the best roads around here) and the disc brakes made it easy to stop. Overall I was 10 times less tired than when I did that ride before. Yes I will have to get tyres more often as these wear but hey not a bad outcome. So for anyone else like me I will tell you: bike is bike, just have fun.

Hi, I went through most topics related to my question but I am still on the fence between two. I ride road bike and don't really want another drop bar bike aka classic gravel. That's why I was considering getting XC machine or On-one Whippet rigid from Planet X. It would be used for occasional commuting (tarmac short distance) and mix of road/gravel with easy single tracks as add on. Dont have any serious trails near me. Or maybe ditch the idea of mtb and look for something practical, like flat bar gravel? So many options. Open for your ideas!

I was wondering which you would pick and why? Also 1 or 2 suspensions? Considering going e-fatbike middrive with dual suspension. I would have two set of wheels and it would be my year round bike to take my dog bikejoring. Winters here get pretty harsh, snow, ice, slush, etc. I currently have a 7 speeds steel frame regular(non electric) fatbike no suspension. I studded the tires. It drives like a tank on pure ice, ruts and up to an inch and half of snow. But its a pain to drive lol. Very heavy, cant go that fast, and I can feel all the ruts and bumps when I offroad it. I also have an old 1 suspension MTB for the other seasons.

Hi guys, just got an RSX fork 35 Gold 130mm travel upgrade on MTB and found this issue on the crown. The Great British Divide is an unsupported MTB bikepacking event from one end of the country to the other. After a years delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first edition took place in Summer 2021 with 50 riders on the starting roster. It’s not a race; it is an adventure to be completed in a couple of weeks. Travelling from the bottom to the top of Great Britain, at times taking a less...

Bought them for around 70 usd.... Need to check their conditions, but two seem to be in decent condition. What do you think? In your opinion, by the view of them, do they need lot of work and money to spend to renew them? The Scott seem to have some rust though...near the chains https://preview.redd.it/rju2vms41c5c1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d186cb6e3ce657ddd8b2ec03d7e023c44dcc5d3a https://preview.redd.it/t3vh5ns41c5c1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=157657652677235f435e641af3c43f7a765134ef https://preview.redd.it/dyirnms41c5c1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1afa90ba00bb6068ba6818abd8fda4d743128890

On my first fall riding a moderate downhill, this spoke came off. The white mark inside the circle also says that the plastic took some hit. I need help in 1. Is it worth and safe to fix and use it? 2. If it is safe, how do I fix it? It's quite hard and I can't pull the spoke all the way back till the hole. I'm guessing loosening with some heat but that might be unsafe. Is there a better way? https://preview.redd.it/9vsmdc2rd64c1.jpg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72779322b2f263e7a34083b9f76e3b96c76b7711 https://preview.redd.it/v59fze2rd64c1.jpg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c0d0266797c017973e1ccf203a65f4654eca1f92

I was given a Cannondale Trail 6, not sure which year. The specs I've seen refer to an 8-speed, but my gear shifters go 1-9 for the small rear cogs and only show 1 and 3 for the front gears. The bike only has 2 front cogs, not 3, but I can change the shifter into the "2- space" between the indicated 1 and 3 on the Shimano Rapidfire shifter. When I do that the chain moves onto the smaller of the 2 cogs, as if I'd gone to 1. Is this just a case of the manufacturer using a shifter that can handle 3 gears, in a situation where there are only 2?

Please excuse the silly question from a newbie: my Cannondale Trail 6 has 3 front gears and 8 or 9 on the rear wheel. Are these typically arranged in a strictly sequential fashion ie is the biggest rear wheel gear on the 2ndw front gear smaller than the smallest rear gear/ largest front gear combination, or is there some overlap of gear ratios? I've expressed myself badly I know. I'm trying to figure out if I should always just stay in the biggest front gear and move up and down the range of rear gears (as I've been accustomed to), or should I aim to stay in the mid range of rear gears and adjust my front gear accordingly?

Hi, My partner has a Specialized Rockhopper 27.5inch with a small frame. We were hoping to get a cargo rack to then fit a child seat on it - does anyone have any recommendations? I see some that attach to the seat pole which wouldn’t work due to the height of the seat and they also don’t fill me with much confidence from the photos? I’m in the UK too. Thanks!

More so than normal motorbike helmets. Im looking at the light construction ones and they cost like a few hundred dollars. The MB helms meanwhile you can find a decent one under $150. Am I missing something? If so can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks.
