Was I in the wrong? Cyclist undertaking me had to swerve

I was cycling in an urban area and approaching a section where the cycle path splits in two. One path continues on the road (right fork / straight ahead) and the other continues on a dedicated cycle path off the road (left fork). I was taking the left fork (I’m in the UK), so was keeping left. I didn’t hand signal. Behind me, someone was trying to seemingly undertake me on my left, but continue straight on to the right fork. As I went left, they yelled and “had to take evasive action”. They caught up with me and basically ranted at me - saying they’re a “British cycling leader” and they had to take evasive action and that they were keeping a “safe distance” but my “sudden and abrupt” manoeuvre endangered their life. One of their main criticisms of me is that I had bone induction headphones in. They play a quiet podcast and I can safely hear everything around me, including this person. I accept that signalling would have been the clearest and best approach, but I don’t think they should have attempted to undertake. They denied undertaking, but if they were keeping a “safe distance” anyway then any action I took shouldn’t have affected their ride. It’s a large cycle path and there was plenty of room for them to be on my right and safely overtake. They then continued to accost me and when I told them they shouldn’t undertake, tell me I’m “typical man, won’t be told you’re wrong” and a bunch of other stuff. Anyway, I admit a hand signal would have removed any ambiguity, but am I in the wrong here? I really feel that someone shouldn’t ever be that close to another cyclist they’re not on a ride with, for this reason exactly.

Can you guys help settle a dispute about brakes and braking?

My coworker is claiming having your brakes set so it's physically impossible to lock them up is better and safer than being able to lock up your brakes. I say having the ability to lock your brakes up allows you to brake better due to being able to get closer to lockup without actually locking them up. My argument isn't that it's better to lock up your brakes, it's obviously keeping full traction while braking is a more effective way to stop. My argument is that having the full brake authority (thus granting the ability to lock your brakes up) allows you to use a larger percentage of your braking power *without* locking up your brakes and gives you overall better control of the bicycle. Can I get some input?

I’ve had this chain on my wrist for 22 years and counting!

This is random but I thought I would share. When I was 16 my best friend passed away. He was who got me into mountain biking and helped fortify my love for it. After he passed his mom gave me his bike (a 1998 Intense Tracer 4-bar that I have kept to this day) the day I took it on my first ride without him the chain snapped. That broken chain absolutely devastated me, but for whatever reason I decided to take that chain that day and put it on my wrist with a chain tool. I am now 38 and have had this chain on my wrist every day since (minus the 4 hours I had to take it off for an MRI in 2009 then I put it back on with an old Sachs 9-speed quick link) and I wear it to this day. I thought y'all would enjoy seeing how much the Shimano IG90 chain, especially the inside, has worn down over the years. The inside is worn completely smooth and round and I barely even notice it anymore. I have been considering taking it off for the 2nd time to have it DLC coated (Diamond Like Carbon black coating like what RockShox uses on their stanchions) and having just the quick link gold plated before I put it back on, but I'm honestly terrified of ruining it. If anyone has any experience with DLC coating stuff please share your thoughts! Anyways. Just thought it would be cool to share something you don't see every day! Long Live Colin! 🖤
