If riding a bike made of solid gold gave a 2 second lead in bike racing I'm sure all riders would do it, so I was curious what the pros would ride if price ACTUALLY mattered. Would they ride carbon fiber frame but with absolute crap wheel and components or aluminum with decent components? What do you think the bike would look like in this type of race. Wishful thinking but I wish this imaginary race existed, I'd watch it.

I recently saw youtube video where dude was talking about things he regrets buying and I am sure this type of discussions are here, but I am inherently lazy and I though this might be interesting discussion and even could help some people avoid costly mistakes. So I wonder what was things as new or veteran cyclist you regred purchasing the most. I am most interested in items you regred buying from usability or usefulness perspective, not because they were shit quality. But feel free to list or discuss anything. I might give an example... I do regred buying power meter as it was rather expensive and it is no use for me. I was hyped out how beneficial it would be, but honestly I never used it potential or ride for specific power as I don't race nor train for racing. I understand its usefulness for hardcore people, but I can go without it. The second thing would be rather expensive polarized sunglasses. I found out that I don't like riding with polarized sunglasses as they do throw weird reflections. I wish I knew that before I spend money on "polarized" feature that I do not like. What about you?

I can’t believe it. I did it. Okay, I finished later than I thought I would and I stopped at a few aid stations but I did it. This is the first time I have ever done anything like this before. I was a kid that did all the sports and that carried on into my college years but after graduating I became more weight lifting focused (and ended up gaining a bit of weight as well). I have been casually cycling for a few years now but last year my best friend and I moved away from each other and decided we should choose a thing to do each year. I finally talked her into cycling (and now she loves it) so we decided on picking a cycling activity in a different state each year. I’m still larger - especially for a cyclist - I trained for it and I thought I was doing great, turns out I’m slow lol. I kinda figured but it was especially prominent when I’m best friend and I rode together a few days before our tour the other day. Holy shit- she is fast and built for this. I’m so proud of her and she has worked so hard. But she finished a good 50 minutes before me. The first half was a climb (averaging 13mph) and I was at a disadvantage living in a very flat state (even with an indoor trainer) the second half I was feeling pretty good and started getting in the groove even found a pacing group to hang with. I averaged a good 18mph for the last 15 miles until a storm came through. It was a perfect storm - no really it was a real thunderstorm - wind and rain and all. So I finished in the rain, soaked to the bone and cold. Now I have to prove it to myself I can do it again. When I get home I’m going to adopt a old wise man willing to teach me the ways of the force, join a cycling group, and do everything I can to see what I can do. I legit cried (like really cried) when I was handed my finishing medal. I know it’s strange but I can’t explain the joy I felt when I crossed that finish line. It felt like it was the first thing I ever said I was going to do AND DID. So now we signed up for a century ride (with just a slight bit of a climb) in July and I am going to do it. I am going to train. And I am going to finish.
