So a little over a month ago a family member of mine was preparing to move across the country and clearing stuff out of his garage. He had a 10 year old road bike that he wasn’t going to take and offered it to me, since getting the bike I have been obsessed with riding and doing it as much as I can. I’m getting to the point where I am thinking about entering a race or doing something competitively, as there are numerous crit races in my area but was wondering if there is a certain ability level I should be at before doing so. I don’t think I am very fast and wouldn’t want to get dropped as soon as the race started. Edit: there is reoccurring advice to do group rides for a while and work my way up to faster ones while learning how to ride in a pack. I will absolutely be looking for local rides and appreciate everyone’s answers. This seems like a really awesome community and I am very excited to delve further into it!

Looks like a newer 2020 ish Orbea Orca with full Ultegra components listed for $800. Doesn't look like it has any damage either. The description just says "good". Throws up a lot of red flags for me. So if you live in the DFW area and you're missing one here it is. Is there anywhere else I should look for someone missing a bike? Or is this a legitimate price?

Moin, ich habe mir ein Canyon Grizl gekauft und wollte dies gerne versichern. Die Versicherungen gelten nicht für Fahrräder, „die nicht durch einen Fachbetrieb zusammengebaut wurden, sogenannte Eigenbauten“ Diesbezüglich habe ich beim Check24-Fahrradsupport mal nachgefragt, ob das Canyon Rad (80% vormontiert geliefert) als Eigenbau gilt oder nicht, das es ja ein Fachbetrieb (vollständig) zusammengebaut hat und dann nur für den Versand etwas kompakter hergerichtet hat. Der Support schrieb dann, das das Canyon (oder jedes andere Versand-Rad) aus diesem Grund nicht versichert werden könne. Ein Bekannter von mir meinte, das wäre Quatsch und man könne das Fahrrad ohne Probleme so versichern. Hat bezüglich dieser Thematik jemand mehr Ahnung oder Erfahrung?

One of my college professors founded an organization that gets balance bikes to children in poverty. At the end of April they are doing a memorial bike ride to honor his son. I would love to participate but I’m not sure it’s realistic for me. The bike ride has several distance options. There’s a 1.2 mile loop and participates get to decide how many laps they do. There’s also several other routes that have a preset length (34 miles, 45 miles, and I think 65 miles). I want to sign up support my professor and his family. I also want to get into a regular workout routine. I’ve tried to get into the habit of working out but I’m not disciplined enough. I think having a specific event I’m prepping for might help me build that routine. I’m interested in the 34 mile option because I don’t think i will push myself if I do the 1.2 mile loop and choose how many laps I want. I think I will give up if I get bored or tired. I think the 34 mile option would force me to push myself but I only want to do that if it’s realistic and a *healthy* push. Extra context: I know nothing about cycling. I learned to ride a bike as a kid but I was 13 the last time I rode a bike. Until December I wasn’t very active. I started to try working out on a semi regular schedule in December but it’s still not that regular. The memorial bike ride is at the end of April so I have a little less than 3 months to prep. Also if you have any tips about how to prep I’d appreciate it! Edit 1: There’s been a bit of confusion. The 1.2 mile loop is separate from the other distances. The 34 mile ride is a different route than the loop. The 45 and 64 mile rides built on top of the 34 mile route. The loop is for people that don’t want to commit to a longer ride like the 34 mile ride but gives them the freedom to do more or less.

Moin, Ich fahre am Wochenende das [E-Bike Manufaktur 11lf von 2018](https://www.fahrrad-xxl.de/e-bike-manufaktur-11lf-x0038833) eines Bekannten zur Probe und bin mir nicht ganz sicher worauf ich achten muss. Das Rad wurde wohl kaum genutzt (rund 1000km), ist in nem sehr guten Zustand, aber das Modell halt schon etwas älter, wobei ich nicht weiß wann genau es gekauft wurde. Von dem Rad an sich finde ich nicht viel im Netz und auch über den Hersteller finde ich nicht viele Informationen. Hat jemand schonmal Erfahrungen mit der e-bike manfaktur gemacht und kann sagen ob die weiter zu empfehlen sind? Außerdem scheint es so als wäre das Rad zuletzt online für rund 2000€ verkauft worden. Der Bekannte meinte er ist sich nicht ganz sicher, meint aber damals rund 4000€ gezahlt zu haben und wollte (da er meint es wäre quasi wie neu) eigentlich 2000€, mir würde er es aber für 1700€ verkaufen. Wäre der Preis für das Rad angemessen? Abgesehen davon frage ich mich worauf man generell beim Kauf eines älteren aber selten gefahrenen eBikes achten muss, bzw welche Fragen ich am Wochenende stellen sollte. Sollte man so "alte" eBikes überhaupt kaufen oder besser ganz die Finger davon lassen? Kann es sein dass der Akku allein durchs Alter langsam schlapp macht oder sollte der noch gut sein? Worauf sollte ich neben der Akkulaufzeit und den üblichen Verschleißteilen wie Bremsen, Reifen, Kette etc sonst noch achten? Danke!
