Ok, so, this is a r/cycling & r/amitheasshole. I ride in a mostly urban environment, on a mix of city streets and paved bike/pedestrian paths. When I'm at a stop sign, yielding per the right of way rules of the road, oftentimes a car in the cross traffic will stop, ignoring their right of way, to be polite and let me through the intersection or cross the road. I'm thrilled that someone is acknowledging me as a cyclist and allowing me to go. At the same time, I get frustrated because they have the right of way and should just GO. I've already stopped, my momentum is gone, they should just keep moving. A big safety factor on the road is being able to predict what drivers are going to do. If they just follow the right of way rules, I can more accurately predict what they're going to do. I try to be grateful, wave thanks and take advantage of them stopping, but sometimes I get frustrated, firmly plant both feet and wave them on. Sometimes they go, sometimes they'll continue to wait. I would rather everyone just follow the established road rules so we all know what to expect, but should I just be grateful and accept the courtesy? Thanks! Edit: Lots of great responses. I'm glad to hear that a lot of you are on board with obeying the rules and encouraging predictability. I'd rather let them go and not encourage the behavior. Actively stopping and drinking water or stopping far back from the crossing are things I've done to help.

Being able to escape reality and just test my limits is addictive. I went up 804 ft in elevation and it took me just under 2 hours to do it. I’m on a 1984 Univega road bike. I’m currently trying to bike down every rural backroad near my small town. This is my first week of cycling and I’ve put in 56 miles. I’ve already been in the rain and harsh wind. I can’t get enough of this. I couldn’t ride yesterday and also today due to the rain. What are some tips for someone who is new that you wish you would have known?

Been riding road bike for 4 years and have recently been enjoying going to large event rides. In fact, just recently rode in the TD bank 5boros ride in NYC (I live in VA, and will be riding in SOTR in a few weeks). I would like to continue to travel and compete/enjoy rides that aren’t in my backyard, however with most rides being on Sunday, it is hard to get back home after rides without expending precious vacation time from work. My question, as stated above is why do they always take place on Sunday instead of Saturday?

Hallo zusammen, ich fahre jeden Tag mit dem Rad in die Arbeit, heute morgen 7:00 Uhr (Augsburger Innenstadt) , durch eine Straße die geflickt und für Radfahrer wirklich nicht zumutbar ist .... Nunja, ich fahre dort -wohlwissend das in DE Rechtsverkehr gilt- auf der Linken Seite ( ein kleines Stück ca. 10 m) weil auf der rechten Seite Autos auf der Bordsteinkante stehen, die Straße dort unter aller Sau ist und ich dann eh nach den 10 m links auf den Radweg fahren muss um eine Ampel zu überqueren. Hinter mir Auto, hupt regt sich auf , ich Frage was los ist es ist 7 Uhr ... Er DU weißt schon das in DE Rechtsverkehr gilt? Ich ja, aber haben SIE schonmal die Straße gesehen außerdem bin ich absichtlich links gefahren damit sie an mir vorbei fahren können, da ich eh Links Abbiegen muss. Er regt sich immer noch auf "soll ich dich übern Haufen fahren ?" Ich " immer noch sie bitte, und wollen sie mir drohen?" Er "nein das ist nur eine Frage " achsoooooo klar , wer hätte das nicht geahnt.... 🤦🏼‍♀️ Naja er " Du doofe nuss" ich " immer noch sie bitte" er " bla bla bla ...." Ich fahr doch weiter" .... Er fährt weiter ich durch Wut natürlich auch aufgebracht " Arschloch und alter weißer Mann " ... Jetzt kommt das beste. Er hält an , mach den Motor aus, steigt aus kommt auf mich zu . Ich habe mich nicht einschüchtern lassen und Frage ich was das jetzt soll ob er mich noch weiter bedrohen möchte oder schlagen? Ich weiß es jetzt auch nicht ... Er " hahaha als ob ich dich schlage. " Ich " Aha und warum Steigen sie dann aus und bedrohen mich kommen auf mich zu , wohlgemerkt wir haben immer noch Corona, Abstand bitte" ich geh mit dem Rad ein Stück zurück. Er cholerisch wie vorher schimpft, ich Frage ob ich die Polizei Rufen soll? Er steigt in sein Auto, fährt über die Wendeplatte und fährt volle Kanne auf mich zu und bremst ab. Ich nur so 😳 OK ich Ruf jetzt die Polizei, es reicht, er solle Stehen bleiben. Er macht die gleiche Aktion nochmal und fährt dann in vollem Karacho weg... Kennzeichen hab ich mir gemerkt. Weiß jetzt auch nicht was ich machen soll. Ist auch nicht das erste Mal das mir sowas passiert aber dieses Mal schon so massiv. Er wollte mich halt einschüchtern aber hat halt nicht geklappt... Zumal mir das nie passiert wenn ich mit meinen Mann Unterwegs bin.... Komisch 🤔 gibt's da einen Zusammenhang Junge Frauen Werden von weißen Männern versucht einzuschüchtern um ihre ,"Männlichkeit" zu demonstrieren?.🤔 * Gibt's ähnliche Erfahrungen? Hello everybody, I haven’t really biked much in the last 15 or so years and „recently“ got a Kona Sutra when the pandemic just started. Used at a few times and then it went in the basement for a year or so. I have started biking regularly about 3 weeks ago, 25-40km-ish rides about 300 km total and then today I biked the first 50k with a whopping 620m of elevation in well under 3 hours. So just under 20km/h average speed. I honestly was very pleasantly surprised at how well it went, I did take a coffee break at the half time mark. Thanks to this subreddit and gcn on YouTube I was properly prepared and stayed on top of refueling and staying hydrated and I think that really made a huge impact on my performance - now my goal is to get the same route in under 2.5 hours. Thanks for everyone here being so awesome - safe trails!

Personally I cannot imagine a scenario where this would be helpful as opposed to a quick flick to unclip. And I cannot think of anywhere that button could be mounted that wouldn’t result in it being randomly pressed while cycling, or being simply out of reach to be accessed quickly while slowing down into an intersection, or people, or frankly any scenario where you need to suddenly and quickly stop and unclip. Alas maybe I am simply not creative enough to understand this product fully. Let me know your thoughts.
