I’ve been riding now pretty consistently for over three years with breaks here and there due to injuries and very wintery days. I’m in my late 40s, a dude, and very fit. I ride a gravel bike which lets me ride on and off road, which i find safer personally. But I just can’t really ride much further than 80 or so km and more than 1000m in climbing. I see these guys doing 150km or more and climbing 2000m and i’m like wtf lol EDIT: i'm adding on here as i've read thru many of your 91 comments. thx btw! yah, seems to me i just dont fuel myself correctly, simple. 3 hours or so i'm solid, anything beyond that? gettin tired and beat down. good info here! need to learn how to fuel my body correctly now..

Moin Leute, nachdem ich im April drei Tage auf einem zu kleinen Leihrad in Marseille in die Hügel gegangen bin hatte ich deutliche Schmerzen im rechten Knie. Dachte das passt schon, ich mache erst mal ruhiger. Drei Wochen abheilen und nur mit dem Rad zum Bäcker und zur Arbeit, aber wurde nicht so viel besser. Bin dann trotzdem das Radrennen mitgefahren, weil wenig schmerzen und ich mich seit nem halben Jahr drauf vorbereitet habe. Ging dann auch ganz okay, Zeit war gut, Spaß war da, aber danach wieder alles im Arsch. Bin dann erst mal wieder ein zwei Wochen gehumpelt. Das Radrennen war am ersten Mai. Hausarzt wusste davor schon nicht was es ist, bin dann am zweiten Mai zum einem Orthopäden. Früherer Termin gabs auch nirgends, ich habs echt probiert. Ortho meinte Schleimbeutel geschwollen, einfach vier Wochen ruhig halten mit bisschen Ibu und Bandage und dann gehts schon wieder. Das ist jetzt sechs Wochen her. In der Zeit habe ich nichts gemacht außer zu Fuß gehen und ein einziges Mal 5km Rad fahren weils, einfach unmöglich war von A nach B zu kommen. Das ist jetzt vier Wochen her. Heute habe ich bei einem anderen Orthopäden zufällig einen Termin gekriegt. Der hat ein mal seine Finger aufs Knie gelegt, meinte "spannen Sie mal Oberschenkel an", und promt Schmerz. Er hat mir nicht so wirklich zugehört, hat nur gefragt "machen Sie sonst anderweitig Sport oder nur Radfahren?" Ich so "seit Corona nur noch Radfahren". Er so "ah ja, absoluter Klassiker". Dann meinte er, hier diese Bandage, und dann bitte Übungen für die Muskulatur am Oberschenkel im Innenbereich stärken, und jetzt gehen Sie endlich" (sinngemäß). Habe dann noch gesagt "halt halt halt halt, wie wo was, und wenn alles glatt geht wann kann ich überhaupt wieder Fahrrad fahren?" Er meinte "googeln Sie Übungen, und wenn alles perfekt läuft, in 8 Wochen, dann aber bitte ganz ganz langsam starten ok tschüss". Habe mir die Bandage geholt, meinen Urlaub storniert, kurz über Selbstmord nachgedacht weil das wäre weniger frustrierend und bin jetzt mal dabei Pläne für den Rest des Jahres zu schmieden. Heißt für mich aber wenn ich so schnell es geht genesen will und ggfs. den Spätsommer noch mit leichten Touren mitnehmen möchte, dann muss ich jetzt a) immer die Bandage tragen wenn ich das Haus verlasse b) keinen Sport machen, der das Knie benötigt c) diese Übungen machen Da ich null Ahnung habe was das beinhaltet und worauf ich achten muss, habt ihr da Erfahrungen und Tipps dazu? Habt ihr da Videos? Sollte ich mich im Fitti anmelden? Sollte ich einfach mal Physio buchen für Tipps? bin echt über jede Hilfe dankbar und freue mich auf eure Einschätzung. PS. Man ich sag euch, wenns beim Fahren mal weh tut, sofort abbrechen und abheilen lassen, auch nicht wenns im Urlaub nur noch einen Tag geht. Klar war die letzte Tour super schön, aber ganz ehrlich hätte ich mich einfach betrunken und hätte das Rad zurück gegeben wäre das echt n geiler Sommer gewesen, und effektiv verpasse ich ihn einfach komplett.

Ich hab mir immer schon gewünscht Mal über mehrere Tage mit dem Fahrrad wegzufahren und zu gucken wie weit man es schafft. Letztens bin ich mit meiner Freundin los, vier Tage Holland, mit dem kleinen zwei Personenzelt hat man immer eine Lücke auf dem Campingplatz bekommen können. Es hat uns richtig spaß gemacht, und im Sommer wollen wir gleiches in Süddeutschland wiederholen. Ein Problem hatten wir aber, ständig musste jemand auf die Fahrräder und das Gepäck aufpassen, sodass wir uns zusammen nie weit von den Rädern entfernt haben. Dass wir also nicht Mal in ein interessantes Museum oder einen Park gehen konnten hat sich schon sehr einschränkend angefühlt. Eine Lösung die uns einfiel ist, dass es an Bahnhöfen schonmal Schließfächer gibt, aber das kenne ich eigentlich nur von größeren Städten, die wir tendenziell weniger mit dem Rad erschließen wollen. Eine andere Idee wäre das Auto am Campingplatz abzustellen und als Schließfach zu benutzen. Das bedeutet aber, dass wir uns ständig im Umkreis aufhalten müssten. Und mit dem Auto von Campingplatz zu Campingplatz hüpfen müssten, was die Romantik so ziemlich rausnimmt. Wie würdet ihr mit eurem Gepäck umgehen, habt ihr Ideen?

I am moving to a city in next few weeks, the house I am moving to is shared with 3 others, they each have bike and there is only storage for 1 more bike under the stairs. This is fine, I am not complaining about that, I am lucky to be able to store 1 bike at all. However, I mentioned to the landlord that I would like to bring a second bike, 1 bike is my very expensive road bike that I do not want to use for commuting due to risk of being stolen when left unattended outside of the supermarket and gym (even whilst locked) and also the lack of practicality ( the need for cycling shoes with cleats) for everyday tasks, and the wear and tear and maintenance of the expensive parts. I asked if I could bring a second, cheaper bike for everyday use that I could store indoors, just not under the stairs where there is no more room. I'd be using this bike daily for commuting and errands etc. I said that if no solution was found I would just bring the one bike, which ever that may be. I understand I am lucky to be able to store a bike at all. It was very nice of her to offer a solution, a vertical rack that would store my second bike. However she suggested this be erected on the front of the house, in the public street, no barriers at all being the front of the house and the pavement, it would be totally exposed. Whilst this would be secure enough to hold the bike, I expressed my concern that any bike on that rack could easily just be stolen with very little effort, if with the heftiest lock, all they would need to do is break the rack. The area is not the worst but there is definitely theft that occurs regularly. So I politely declined the solution. I am I being unreasonable? Am I asking for too much? I have said if no solution can be found I'll just bring the one bike, I just do not want to store any bike on such an exposed rack. I would happily just store my second bike along the wall in the hallway or even in my room but I am not sure they will allow it.
