I'm gonna get roasted for this but local bike shops are not universally good (or bad). Some of them have employees that are colossal douche bags or don't know shit about bikes. I support small businesses, but if they can't provide value then I will give my money to Trek or Specialized or REI or whoever can fix the dang bike. I feel like LBSs are held in some fantastical regard that no other local business receives and it's dumbfounding. This from the same people click clacking on their macbook pros they bought from the apple store and only get serviced at the genius bar. Give me a break. Okay, carry on.

Ich sehe so oft im Dunkeln Fahrradfahrer ohne Licht. Teilweise sogar ohne irgendwelche Reflektoren am Fahrrad. Ich verstehe das einfach nicht. Momentan sind jeden Tag Berichte in der Zeitung von Unfällen mit Fahrradfahrern. Ich fahre im Dunkeln mit Licht und warnweste und mache mir trotzdem Sorgen übersehen zu werden. Versteht das jemand, warum so viele Leute das machen und das anscheinend auch so weniger von der Polizei kontrolliert wird? Edit: Hier sind viele Kommentare dazu eingegangen von Menschen, die die Thematik auch aufregt und mit möglichen Erklärungen dazu. Für die Leute, die schreiben, dass sie ohne Licht ganz defensiv fahren. Radfahrer ohne Licht sind nicht nur für sich selbst eine Gefährdung. Ein Autofahrer könnte vor Schreck das Lenkrad verreißen, weil er einen unbeleuchteten Radfahrer so spät sieht und selbst einen Unfall bauen. Oder ein Autofahrer fährt einen unbeleuchteten Radfahrer tot, weil er ihn nicht gesehen hat. Der wird doch auch seines Lebens nicht mehr froh. Und ich weiß, dass sich auch vieles auf der Seite der Autofahrer am Fahrverhalten gegenüber Radfahrern ändern muss. Aber das ist ein anderes Thema.

Finally decided to get aero - what a difference!

Been training pretty hard almost all on my 18km each way commute for the last 1.5 years but I’d been pretty stubborn in ignoring my cycling kit. Got some fancy new 50mm carbon Hypers on the weekend, so I had to take the plunge and sort the rest of me out too. Ditched my mtb style helmet visor, got a tight fitting t shirt, and replaced a saddle that was getting me numb if I stayed down in the drops too long. Yee haa what a speed increase. I was getting really close to some top 10 segment times on my commute which is on a super popular cycle path but couldn’t quite crack them before despite clocking around 115 attempts. Suddenly I’ve taken 5 this week including 1 KOM, and set my fastest times both ways to work and back even without any major tail winds.

Ich fahre fast jeden morgen, wenn ich den Bus nicht erreiche mit dem Rad zu bushaltestelle und parke es am Fahrradständer einer Postfiliale in der Nähe. Ich hole es dann am Abend wieder ab. Heute morgen sprach mich eine Mitarbeiterin darauf an, warum ich denn mein Rad dort öfters abstelle. Ich erklärte ihr meine Beweggründe ( Bus und so) Daraufhin sagte sie, dass das kein öffentlicher Fahrradständer sei. Meine Frage an euch: ist das so rechtens? Zumal am Fahrradständer keine Schilder hängen und der Fahrradständer auch nicht irgendwie versteckt ist oder so. Der steht halt zur Straße hin, neben dem Eingang.

Dass man sich während ner längeren Ausfahrt regelmäßig mit Kohlenhydraten versorgt, ist ja so die Natur der Sache. Sonst kommt der Hungerast.. Aber was ist, wenn man fastet und nüchtern erst losfährt? Ich habs ein paar mal ausprobiert und gemerkt, ich bin dann nicht ganz so explosiv aber iwie auch nicht lahm. Der Hungerast kommt krass, aber man kann ihn überwinden und dann aber eher gechillter weiter-/zurückfahren. Aber das sind ja meine subjektiven Erfahrungen. Hat da auch einer von euch Erfahrungen mit gemacht? Wenn ja welche? Das würd mich interessieren. Und würde man da auch nen Trainingsreiz erreichen?
