**TLDR - I bought pannier bags and they save me at least 2 hours a day.** I've been riding now for close to 15 years and I've always got by with a rucksack and my rhino bag for my commutes and gym.. But I've realised that my set up is so fiddly and time-consuming to sort out daily and I've come to hate it to the point where I've been just considering getting another car or getting taxis to where I want to be. It just felt like a huge chore. The bikes not the issue, it's a great bike. Its just the 15/20 mins I have to keep taking things out of my bag and sorting it out and putting all back in again every day, at least twice a day, making sure all the straps are tight, zips aren't opening, I had too many pockets and my rhino bag constantly misbehaved as it swung from side to side and sat on my back mudguard and cause it bend and my wheel scraping under it and as I could never it to hold in place and then I had the hassle of having to undo it all if I had to use and do it all back up again and it really was grating on me. Now it's winter and I tend to ride wrapped up in several layers of gear... (I don't agree with the cold and it gets absolutely boltic riding home when its -2 outside) Cause my backpack is full it got uncomfortable and I was soaked through when I got home afterwards. (I warm up eventually) So I just hit the fuck it button and went out and paid myself very nicely with a rack and bags. 2 40litre waterproof bags and a new set of bike lights to boot...oh and another pair of sealskin winter socks. - Money well spent. Already felt the difference riding home on it.. I can even fit my DSLR camera, the kit and macro lens in them without effort. - I've been looking for an excuse to go back out with my camera aswell. Bonus! .No more checking 15 pockets, 8 million zips and 67 billion straps anymore. Better still... They just clip out and have carry handles making everything even more effortless. This happened about 2 weeks ago. ​ I had my ebike locked outside out my flat in an open garage area and it was chained to one of those steel poles that are supporting building. I was using several New York Kryptonite chains to keep it there. ​ One night/morning at around 3:30 am I was awakened by an angle grinder noise which at first, I wasn't sure if it was real or if I was dreaming so my first instinct was to go back to sleep. A few seconds later I realized what was happening, and got an adrenaline rush, looked outside and saw a black van with the back doors opened towards where my bike was fixed. Without thinking too much, I immediately ran to the kitchen, got the biggest and sharpest knife I could find, and while rushing, I could hear the angle grinder noise stopping. While I ran down the stairs, I then opened the door to the outside, and the bike and the van were both gone. At least they did not steal the battery as it was charging in my flat. The first thing that hit me when I went outside was the smell of grinded metal, after which I went back and called the cops, while trying not to panic after witnessing all that. ​ In hindsight, I realized how incredibly stupid I was for going out to begin with. I am also worried that my first instinct was to grab a kitchen knife rather than shout at them from my first floor window. The more I pondered about it, the more I kept realizing that I was extremely lucky that I didn't catch them in the act as they were most likely armed. ​ I am still rattled by the experience albeit not so much as I was on the day. Did anyone else experience something similar?
