Not sure if this is normal but I’ve been riding my TCR for about 2 months now. Everyone says riding in the drops is safer in most circumstances, more leverage on the brakes, more control in handling, puts you in a generally lower position for overall handling. Not sure if I’ve just gotten used to riding on the hoods but riding on the drops feels very weird. Particularly on descents, or on sections of road where I need to be more aware and attentive of my bike handling. I also noticed it feels not as ergonomic is I feel it should. As in my wrist feels too bent and deviated and my fingers feel particularly stretched when trying to reach and squeeze the brake levers. As of right now, I definitely feel more comfortable, confident and more in control on the hoods. In terms of bike handling, cornering, even brake application it all feels better. Is this something that can be fixed by fit? Do I just need to ride more? Are my brakes and shifters positioned too high on the handlebars?

Hi all, Let my preface by saying that this is an awful situation and is largely due to poor city infrastructure (no bike lane in the street, and a blind intersection) Last Saturday night, I was biking home from a friend's house and was run over by a car while I was on the sidewalk. I would have ridden in the street, but there was no bike lane, so I chose the sidewalk instead. As I was waiting for a crosswalk, (moving from a standstill to a walking pace) I exited a blind corner and was run over by a car. I was wearing my helmet (the driver is claiming that I wasn't). That night, I filed an informal police report as after we exchanged information, he generously agreed to pay for the damage to my rims and shocks. However, since it was a Motor Vehicle Accident and I live in New York State, medical insurance can't cover the cost of any of my checkups (I have a minor concussion) until they receive a denied claim from the auto insurance company. I do not have auto insurance because I ride my bicycle everywhere. I am hoping not to involve legal entities with this claim, and I was hoping to learn from others who may have been in this situation before.
