Riding my local trail at about 16mph, almost home, i feel a bug hit my ear and I'm like wow that was a weird feeling. Seconds later I hear/feel wings and movement inside my head and I immediately try to suppress panic. Shaking my head does nothing, I parked my bike in the grass and tore off my helmet and started slapping the other side of my head like a ketchup bottle. Nothing, it continues to move and I can feel it. Home is about 20 minutes away, I'm wondering if I can ride that far before it damages my ear drum or I go insane. In desperation I grab a stick and try to pry it out like a cuetip, no dice. I am vaguely aware of people around me looking at me like I'm probably insane on meth. I decide I might have to ride home and have my wife tweezer it out, but as a last effort I open up my camel back and pour my water straight into my ear. I give my head a good strong shake like I just got out of the pool with water in my ear, and this firefly looking motherfucker plops right out and is fumbling around on the grass. I can't believe it and just sit there expecting to keep feeling it for another minute before I finally accept that that worked and I don't have to go insane today. Otherwise was a very nice ride on a sunny day

I was riding out on some nice back farm roads. It was about -1% grade and I was traveling about 25 mph according to my garmin. I was coming around a slight right hand bend and there was a pine tree on my right. As I passed the tree, a large dog (100 lbs) came out from behind the tree and lunged at my front tire. I had almost no time to react. I hit the dog in the midsection and got totally launched 🚀. Head over the handlebars. I tucked super hard to save my head and landed/rolled on my left shoulder and back. I quickly scrambled off the road, looking for the dog because I didn’t know if it was going to come at me again. It had run out of sight, just as shocked as myself. I quickly assessed myself (nurse life). My shoulder was hurting very bad. I felt my collar bone elevated above my shoulder, kind of tenting the skin. And my arm was pretty limp but I could feel and move my fingers. I was in a lot of pain. My glasses covering the tears. The dogs owner ran over to me. She was frantic and shocked. I asked her to grab my bike and phone that were laying in the middle of the road. I wanted to notify my wife before Garmin sends that terrifying text. The kind lady kept wanting to call 911. I said no, I can’t afford the ambulance ride cause I spent all my money on the destroyed bike that you dragged off the road (jk aluminum boyooooo). Once I collected myself, I asked if they could drive me to the Emergency Department because I couldn’t move my shoulder. The older couple provided me with a bag of ice and a drive to the ED. They were very apologetic about the dog, they said cyclist come down their road all the time and the dog has never gone on the road. First time for everything. At the ED, I got X-rays of the shoulder. Luckily no dislocation or break. My AC joint is damaged though. And my clavicle will now always stick out, but it matches the other from a high school football injury. I am now symmetric. So for now, I’m in a sling and I need to follow up with ortho. My wife and I move into our new home in 2 wells, so she will be doing some heavy lifting. Also my 2 month old bike has bent handlebars and scratches now 😞 …The dog is fine, I love dogs, freak accident. My wife took me back to get my bike. She wanted to say hi to the dog cause she loves dog. The dog was so terrified he peed himself. I felt sad for the poor pup. We all could have been way more injured. We are both lucky. Short Form: hit a dog, got sent sky high, dog is fine but scared, for me 3/4 extremities fully functioning

Hellooooo! Also: Faltraaaad! - Habe ich was vergessen? - Licht halt einfach was zum ranklippsen? - habe ich da was übersehen?

Forbidden Druid V2 carbon trail mountain bike The Druid is what Forbidden calls “a wolf in sheep’s clothing”’, as its Trifecta suspension platform is designed to ride like it has more travel than it actually does. Rear wheel travel remains at 130mm for the Druid V2, but Forbidden has made key tweaks to the new frame to increase the bike’s overall performance… all without losing the...

I'd been eyeing a specific bike from a local bike shop ("Shop") for a couple of months and when it went on sale (30%) in March, I decided to go check it out. Since I didn't want electronic shifters, I asked them how much they could lower the price to change the shifters for cable and they gave me another price. I said I'd think about it and left on vacation for 2 weeks. During my time away, I noticed that they put the bike back at full price on their website. When I got back, I went to the Shop, found the employee I had talked to and asked if they would still sell me the bike at the price we had talked about. They agreed and I paid the full amount. On my invoice, they wrote "Swap for GRX 810". This week, I go pick up the bike and the employee who sold it to me isn't there, but the owner of the Shop is. He congratulates me on my purchase, tries to sell me expensive bottle cages, yadiyada. The bike looks good, I take it home after booking a bike fit with the Shop in two weeks. Back home, I inspect the bike and notice a couple of things: - All parts have been swapped for GRX 810 except for the two brake calipers which are GRX 410. Another shop around my house says that there's practically no performance difference between 810 and 400 calipers and that it's around 30 dollars extra each for the upgrade. - More importantly, the Dt Swiss G 1800 wheels (entry level gravel wheels) have been swapped for Fulcrum Rapid Red 900's (They seem to be wheels that come standard with certain gravel bikes). According to a website I found, the difference in price for the wheelsets is around 500 dollars. - I just found the Dt Swiss wheelset on the Shop's website selling for 750$ the pair. What would you do? My plan of action is: 1) Call the store and talk to employee. Ask him about the wheels in a friendly tone. Maybe it's a honest mistake on their part and they'll make the changes for free. 2) If they counter that I already got a discount and that they should have never given me the bike at that price, I'll ask them for a compensation: I keep the bike + 500$ in cash or in gear at their store. 3) If they offer nothing, I'll send them a lawyer's letter with a claim for 1000 $ (to purchase the Dt Swiss wheels, the 810 calipers + bike tech man hours to make the switch). Had they called me after the sale to tell me that the discount was too generous, I'd probably have agreed to pay a little more or buy all the extra for my bike there. But by swapping the wheels and hoping I wouldn't notice, now I feel cheated. ------------------------------- UPDATE! I called the bike store, spoke with the vendor and they agreed to swap the calipers to 810! Super cool of them to do so! I ended up also spending 300$ on bags, mounts and other gear and will be going back to them for service, parts, etc. Uh-oh, I may have two LBS now! I recognize that I may have been too rash in my assumptions and talking of potential lawyer letters. This is my biggest purchase ever so I'm a little on edge. Thanks again for your comments and advice! I'll be sure to follow them next time. Happy riding season!

Cross-country racing is a true test of a rider’s fitness, skills and mental fortitude. As one of the oldest race disciplines in mountain biking, cross-country is often thought of as the geeky older sibling to downhill and enduro racing. However, XC racing has recently seen its stock rise, with the advent of tougher tracks, incredible bike tech and tight racing action. But what exactly is...

I'm glad I have it, by lately Ive noticed I havent been biking outside much even though the weather is gorgeous. My excuses. Valid or not... I live in an apartment complex that is only connected to a major busy road that is next to a major highway. Hardly any sidewalk that has dead ends both ways. It would be a good maybe 15min bike ride to a spot Id feel safe to bike at. That's like more the half of what I have time to do on a weeknight. To drive to a good place to park and ride takes about 15mins. That adds at least 30mins to my ride. Arguably the best thing would be to take my bike to work and ride right after. However I have a dog at home that is in my room all day while I work. So extending that time to ride my bike kind of makes me feel bad. With cooking, dishes, other random things I need to get down throughout my week, I am recently just leaving my bike in the trainer besides the weekends. Often times my job leaves me exhausted and I nap after work. Even though I get plenty of sleep. It even takes time to take it off the drive trainer, put the wheel back on, and carry it to my car. I'm making tons of excuses I know... What originally was supposed to help me get through cold weather and rain/storms has become an excuse not to get outside. Which was a large part of why I liked biking. The dream is to move to a better spot where I could jsut hop on my bike and ride from my apartment. Really bums me out that I live in a bit of a island with no where to go but a highway. Any suggestions? I really am making excuses. But tonight I need to walk the dog, prep cook, do a load of laundry... I really am not going to have time to drive somewhere to bike. But I could jump on my trainer for 45mins.
