I was doing a ride this morning in a neighborhood street. The speed limit is 30 mph. I saw and heard a car speeding and skidding around a sharp curve coming towards me. When i first saw the car, we were both in our own lanes with double yellow lines separating the lanes. The car was approximately 50 feet in front of me, doing approximately 50+ mph. I could tell the driver had lost a little control but hoped he/she would course correct or slow down. But they didn't. They kept coming fast, skidding into my lane. Closer and closer until i saw they were coming head- on at me at around 50 mph. At the last second, i jumped off the bike and dove into ground away from the curb and into a wooded area. I saw the car missed me by 1-2 feet as i dove away. The car never slowed down because they had clearly lost control around the sharp curve. I was relatively unscathed (few scratches), but my bike didn't make it. The car hit it straight head on. The front wheel ended mangled on a nearby tree, while the rest of my bike was totaled. The worst part? Driver took off, never stopping. What's rubbing salt on my woulds? I had a go pro camera recording (On combo garmin edge / go pro front mount), but on impact, everything went flying into the wooded area, with tons of trees, dead leaves, vines, etc. I was able to find my Garmin edge, Garmin radar, air pump, water bottles, but not the go pro. The go pro surely caught the license plate (assuming it had a front one) and the make of car. But after searching for a few hours, i haven't been able to find it, neither by physically looking for it or using phone's bluetooth. So this asshole is going to get away b with a hit and run. UPDATE. After hours of searching, including with two other people, and after buying a metal detector, no luck finding go pro. Maybe it flew into car's windshield or front end. UPDATE 2. LINK to two photos. One shows the mangled front wheel on a tree, the other from my garage showing damage to top and bottom tubes. [https://imgur.com/a/0fs0CWa](https://imgur.com/a/0fs0CWa)

Finally I feel like I've become a real cyclist. Started cycling again last month but only local rides less than 3 miles each way and only in sunny weather. I wanted to go for a ride today and found a 24 mile loop, however 4 miles of that is from the centre of town to the place the trail starts, the trail actually runs near my house you take that out to the end then join another trailer through a different town centre, through a country park and then eventually joining the trail again back to my house. Was quick took me somewhere between 2:30 - 2:45 in total and my legs felt shot when I got home but I managed it! And went the full distance feel like me and my little commuter bike earned its strips today and it was a hell of fun.

So I lost my bike a month ago and it destroyed me, I almost quit cycling. I got another bike and got to work on finding my bike. The night after us was stolen I submitted a report with the police but it ended, plus my description wasn’t as good. I have a receipt of me buying the bike from eBay and and 2 pictures of my own aswell as several from the guy who used to own it. It’s uncanny that someone is selling the exact model of my bike and colour a mile from me. Only thing is the pedal and bottle cage is different. That makes me unsure and there is only one picture of the bike showing the right side of the bike, the left side of mine has a distinguishable mark on the crank if that’s the same I’ll know it’s my own bike. So what do I do next? Even if I call the police can I prove it’s mine if details like the pedal and bottle cage being changed? Honestly the feeling of seeing a hike that’s so damn close looking to mine has sent me into a panic. I am more than even into cycling but that bike was something I truly loved.

Yeah, the title is about as crazy as it sounds. We were out riding some single track in the forest. Beautiful day, great company, all around good time. I ride a gravel bike and have been making new ground in skill and comfort on trails. Riding in the mountains and forests you have to appreciate and respect nature and wildlife without feeling entitled to it. In my mind, I'm always "ready" for a cougar or bear interaction. My buddy and I are blazing down this track when on my right side I hear something sprinting through the woods. I think "oh shit, this is when it happens". I buckled down extra hard and drove forward as hard as I could. If a bear or cougar were there, I wasn't going to fumble and find out. Maybe it was a deer, but not worth the chance. The crackling in the trees and bushes got loud until, suddenly, one large *CRACK* and a huge smack across my back. I still had wildlife in my mind and thought "this is the bear on me, I'm outrunning it, I can't afford to perceive whatever this pain or weight is". I somehow stay on my bike, when I realize what happened: a tree fell on me. It landed almost perfectly across my lower shoulders, didn't really wind me but left a mark and the two of us were SHOOK. We rallied to appreciate what happened: - Tree was infested with termites (these things were gnarly) and pretty much exploded on impact with me - We happened to bike by at the perfect time to see it fall - It just happened to fall right as I went under it - A fraction of a second earlier, it could have been my neck or head I'm feeling good, no bone or muscle aches just a large contusion that's sure to last the next week. A couple of funny quips from the rest of the ride: >If a tree falls in the forest and you're around to hear it, it might fall on you. >It's not the cars you have to worry about, make sure you make eye contact with the trees before crossing. So yeah, watch out for those pesky trees.

Moin zusammen. Wäre sehr an euren Erfahrungen interessiert.

Moin! Was sagt ihr dazu so? 🚴🏻🙋🏻‍♂️

Posting in cycling as this is my main activity and final objective, but this is rather a multisport question. 41M 79kg 177cm, with objective to lose around 6-7kg to perform better on the bike (and lose the dad's belly as well if possible). I live in a mountaineous area where every single ride has some hills. I usually ride 2/3 times per week around 30k/500m and a longer ride of 80k/1500m. I believe I perform relatively okay for my age/weight/fitness but I feel that I have reached a floor when it's getting more and more difficult to improve my PRs. I'm wondering whether it would be bad to increase the number of rides per week, say riding at least 1hr/day, for instance keeping the longer 30/50/80k rides I am doing, and add at least 1hr of home trainer on the other days, plus some runnings or going to the gym. Isn't it too much? 1hr home trainer in the morning, and 1hr of weight lifting (mostly the legs) in the evening. I would/could also replace the gym with some running or swimming depending on the weather and mood (I don't like the gym that much). Would that be fine and useful? Or this is way too much and I need to add resting days in between ? (note: I'm usually too busy on sundays to exercise so it can be considered as my resting day). Thanks.

Finding the best mountain bike wheelset for trail, all-mountain or enduro riding can be a tricky job. Wheels are often one of the best upgrades you can make to your mountain bike. Weight, rim width and stiffness can all affect how your bike handles – for better and, sometimes, for worse. A new wheelset can also be the most expensive upgrade you’ll make. Therefore, choosing the right option for...

In a recent comment I mentioned that I tend to listen to music to help motive and keep my pace up, I have echo buds 2 which have pass through and noise canceling modes, but I tend to use the NC mode as pass through gets lots of wind noise. Seems to be quite an unpopular practice, ironically it seems people would have thought it less bad of an idea on trails vs on the road, while my experience is the opposite. On a single track trail through the woods I definitely want to hear what is up ahead as much as possible and would never listen to music. But on the road, when grinding away the KMs it really doesn’t make a single bit of difference if I can hear the tyre noise of cars coming up behind me or not. Context, I have about 30 years of experience riding across the UK, Japan, the USA and in Belgium. Serious question. Can anyone use the audio information from their ears to determine that a car coming from behind is on a collision course and has used that insight to leap out of the way? A recent post here was where they saw a car coming from the front in the opposite direction drifting out of control on a collision course, they said they heard the tyres squealing and watched the car heading towards them and jumped off the bike. But most accidents are where the driver doesn’t notice you (because texting, or drunk) and just don’t go around you, slamming into you with no warning, so I think radar might help you but has anyone actually listened, and jumped out of the way to avoid being rear ended? Most happy to you to change my mind on this subject. No ego’s here and please leave your ego by the door. This is a serious question because I’m surprised by the vitriol.
