That may not seem like a big deal, but I've always struggled with getting stuck "in the middle" with my training. An article I just read referred to it as "hard days that are too easy and easy days that are too hard". I'm in my 40s, and I've been cycling (and running) for almost 20 years now, and I tend to ride (and run) at 80% far too often. The result has been a gradual decline in my performance over time, because I'm not challenging my body to go harder in short, focused training, then allowing it to recover with easy, non-strenuous recovery activities. Unexpected bonus... this ride was super fun and enjoyable, because I wasn't suffering the whole time! Here's hoping I can remember this feeling and make a permanent adjustment to my training!
