I always just wear a hoodie and shorts, I ride on a mountain bike because it's the only bike I have, I wear a backpack and casual sunglasses. But I go for long distance rides so I do sometimes encounter other cyclists and they are all geared up with helmets, road bikes, biking clothes and sports glasses. So if you see someone like me, what do you think to yourself? Because every time I see a cyclist in full gear I think to myself "Damn, can't wait to look like that one day with all the gear and have an actual road bike". Edit: Thank you all for the replies, I love being a part of this community. And I will look into getting myself a helmet as soon as possible!

I don't know if I like group rides because you can't set your own pace, can't make your own breaks or take in the view as you like. I think for me riding my bike is the ultimate freedom of transport, because you can do whatever the hell you want basically. Like in a car you can't just stop anywhere and don't get me started on trains, but when you go onto a group ride you willingly lose that freedom? Am I just weird for not liking group rides? I mean yeah I can see the benefit of people to talk to, drafting, tips and banter and what else, but yeah it just feels like you give up the very thing that appeals to me when riding my bike.

Hallo zusammen, ich bin es endlich satt auf meiner runtergerockten Möhre durch die Gegend zu tingeln und durchgeschwitzt auf der Arbeit anzukommen. Bin daher auf der Suche nach einem Upgrade. Ich fahre täglich mindestens 7 km, oft auch 16+. Alles auf Asphalt und bei Wind und Wetter. Meine Wünsche: - Nabendynamo - Nabenschaltung - gerne 6+ Gänge, da meine Stadt hügelig ist - Schutzbleche - Gepäckträger Ein Nice to have wäre Riemenantrieb. Allgemein bin ich ein Fan von Wartungsarmut. Das Fahrrad könnte nachts in die abgeschlossene Tiefgarage, wird bei der Arbeit auch in der Garage angeschlossen und müsste es sonst auch mal 2-3 Stunden draußen aushalten. Daher würde ich mit allem drum und dran maximal 1500 Euro ausgeben wollen und das Fahrrad versichern. Noch besser wäre unter 1000 Euro, dann kann ich aber den Riemenantrieb vergessen. Bisher habe ich das Diamant 247 ins Auge gefasst, an das ich einen Gepäckträger schrauben würde. Ich freue mich aber über weitere Ideen.

I am an old guy, I was a very avid cyclist when I was young, and used to work in bike shops as a mechanic. I started riding again around 2020 to try to keep in shape. I do a loop around my town that is about 5 miles, I do it every day. I structured the route so I didn't have any major intersections to cross, I can also ride sidewalk most of the way (My city doesn't have bike paths), everything is geared to limiting my exposure to auto traffic. I pass two schools on my route, and I time my rides so I do them where school isn't starting or ending because the traffic gets really heavy. On my ride Friday, a high school student was leaving the school early and ran a stop sign coming into the crosswalk where I was riding at a fairly decent pace and I hit his drivers front tire. The police were called and they cited the driver, the school administrators came out, and he was leaving early without permission. I have an accident report from the police. My bike is damaged, I am not sure how severely. It is a Priority Continuum Onyx, I just bought it two weeks ago. The front fender is bad out of alignment which really isn't a big deal, the front rim is pretty bad out of true, and I noticed that one of my brake master cylinders has hydro fluid on the hose now near the fitting. I think I must has squeezed the brakes really hard. Also, when in the saddle and pedaling, the bike is creaking quite a bit now. It seems to be related to me sitting in the saddle, it doesn't creak when I stand on the pedals. As for me, I am uninjured. At the time of the accident my left ankle got twisted a bit and was a little achy the day after. Today it is completely fine. The driver has State Farm insurance, and I haven't talked with them or the driver for that matter. My first thought was to drop it off and get it all checked over and repaired and give the bill to State Farm, but I thought I would check with you guys to make sure I do it all right. Also, I might point out that I run a Gopro on my bike as a dash cam, and have footage of the accident, that nobody else has at this point. This accident has made me think a bit more serous about safety gear. I guess I need a nice comfy helmet for a very hot climate (Florida) and some good shoes. When I was younger I rode clipless all the time, but these days I just toss on some flip flops and roll. Looking at the video I see a flip flop had evacuated from my foot, so I guess some decent cycling shoes are in order too, ones that will work on platform pedals.
