For the past 13 years I’ve been riding an amazing bike that’s given me so much pleasure. I’m not going to say what it was because it’s a bit of an obscure brand and I have friends on this sub who might recognize this but it’s the equivalent of a 2009 Trek Madone 4.7, so carbon with full ultegra. In 2009 it cost me around $4000. When I bought it was a) the most expensive thing I’d ever bought and b) over the years has given me by far the most joy per dollar of anything I've ever spent money on. So a decade and a bit later later I decided it was time to upgrade to a Trek Domane SL7. It cost around $7400, full Di2 and I was ecstatic that I managed to find one - all the reviews said it was perfect for what I want - club rider who does a few 100 mile rides a year but mainly just enjoys a 40-50 mile club ride once a weekend or two. Now I don't *actually* hate it. But it's just not as fun as I wanted it to be. I feel like I’m perched over it, my body feels in the wrong position, I don’t feel I’m "as one" with it compared to my old bike and after waiting so long to buy such an incredibly expensive bike I feel kind of disappointed. I know this is the definition of rich-guy first world problems but I waited so long to spend this kind of money and it kind of crushes me that I don't like it as much as I was hoping. So my question is has anybody bought a bike they were dreaming of and it really disappointed them? And should I just wait a while until I'm in tune with this bike, or should I cut my losses and either get something even more ridiculously expensive (like a pinarello f series) or dial it back a bit and accept the fact I should be riding something a bit more ordinary? Edit: just because it’s lost in the comments below. I’ve had a fitting with a very respected fitter. Rode it for a month, had second fitting where we extended the stem. Rode it for another month.
