My hubby - long-time road & mountain bike cyclist in his 70s - he rode 120+ road miles per week for a few decades. Now he must quit road biking (and driving) due to brain visual/spatial issue. Recently had a bike crash that BROKE his carbon fiber bike frame IN HALF ... thank goodness he wasn't injured badly. Now that he has to quit road biking, he's very interested in doing indoor cycling, and I'm doing the research. I want to get him an experience similar to road biking, not spin classes. YouTube reviewers say that the iFit app used on NordicTrack indoor cycles is good ... iFit has many more outdoor rides included (not many on Peloton) ... and then the iFit Google Map feature (you lay out your own ride through Google Maps) -- would let him "ride" local rides that he loves. Been looking at the NordicTrack S22i, which I can purchase at best buy for under $1,200. Also has automatic incline/decline, which the reviewers say is surprisingly good and adds to the realistic feel. I want something easy to use and NOT technically complex. Simple to set up and use out of the box. Zwift is interesting, but seems complex to set up and use -- too many choices/moving parts. Good for techies, but not for us. Also, we do not have the larger buddy/techie community that could help us out day to day. Hey, we are baby boomers! Enough said? Any recommendations or thoughts, I would really appreciate! How Far I have Come

I started training for a charity bike ride in March. I recently had a baby and was recovering from herniated disks in my back, but my good friend persuaded me into joining him. The charity is to raise money through the Canadian Cancer Society towards paediatric cancer research. No better place to send money in my mind. I struggled with training, it’s HARD, but I stuck with it and before I knew it we were knocking out 100km rides and riding up mountains. Now, a few weeks out from our 1200 km charity ride, I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. In my first appointment with my Oncologist I was told that it was stage 4, and statistically I had 24 months to live. I showed up to the next training ride and the next one, not knowing what else to do other than to keep riding. Last weekend I rode 130km with our group of 20 riders. Yesterday I was told that they no longer think my cancer has spread and that it is stage 3. Not ideal, but a lot better than stage 4. Chemo starts tomorrow. What once was gong to be a single chemo to just try to extend my life is now 2 aggressive chemo’s and immunotherapy added on top. I’m not sure how much riding I’ll be able to do, or if I can participate in the charity ride, but I’ll have to wait to see.. maybe I’ll feel ok and get to ride a bit. What I can say, is that I’m damn thankful for cycling. It has put me in a position to be very strong and fit as I walk into this battle. I hope to keep riding through treatment even if it’s not the 100km a day for 2 weeks like I thought the charity ride would be. It’s also given me director and something to work towards as I shift the focus of my diagnosis back to raising money for paediatric cancer research. So, thank you, cycling, you have helped me a lot.

Does anyone have a similar story? Had an old road bike that I didn't care about too much, rode it alot and never had any issues with fit. Wore a pair of mtn bike shoes that I got on sale and never had any issues. Fast-forward and start getting more into cycling. I want to start getting faster and do structured training. So I upgrade the bike to a racier bike. Pretty soon realize there is saddle discomfort and wrist discomfort. Get a fit, some relief. Then 6 months later develop hamstring overuse injury. Go thru PT to heal that up. By the way when I got new pedals I got some used Lake shoes that were by all measures too big, but never had any foot discomfort from them. On the road back to riding from my injury I get another fit to make sure that's not a concern. I also spend, I believe, 5 weeks trying to find a new pair of shoes. I patiently try on multiple sizes of shoes from multiple brands. Ordering, test riding, and returning. I finally settle on some s works 7. About a month after using them I find that I'm gettting numb spots on my feet. I notice that just on the right foot, the outer ball of my foot is bulging over the side of the shoe and is apparently too wide for the shoe. Can make the shoes work by loosening but they aren't perfect. It also appears the new bike fit is exacerbating the foot issues. So it's like, the more money I invest in the bike, the more time I invest, the more I want to get everything right. So I keep going deeper and deeper into the black hole. But the deeper I go, the more issues I find. The deeper I go, the more I invest, the greater my anxiety about the whole situation increases. I have a family of 3 kids and other responsibilities. I don't have an unlimited budget. I can't keep spending money trying every single variation of every single bike component until I find the right one. Also mentally, all these issues are becoming distracting from the rest of life and it's become unhealthy. So how many of you have been here? When do you settle and just say it's 'good enough' and move on with life?

Today I went to reorganize the items in the frame storage box to stop a rattle, and the co2 inflator dropped out and hit the chainstay on the way down. Result, tiny paint chip, only really noticeable if you know it's there, and yet... I'm gutted. Hallöchen. Nach fast 20 Jahren hat mein Gudereit City Bike ausgedient. Ein Neues muss her. Allerdings dieses Mal unbedingt ein Trekking Bike, da meine Strecken etwas länger geworden sind. 15 Kilometer zur Arbeit (Straße und gute Fahrradwege) und am Wochenende auch gerne mal Touren bis zu 70 Kilometer. Mein Budget liegt so bei etwa 1.500 € (+/-). Auf jeden Fall möchte ich eine Nabenschaltung (Alfine 11) haben. Am liebsten mit Riemen (kein Muss). Und eine starre Gabel. Und genau hier habe ich Probleme. Ich finde fast in jedem Shop nur Trekkingbikes mit Federgabel. Kennt jemand ein Fahrrad mit meinen Anforderungen? Muss auch nicht direkt verfügbar sein. Ich kann noch warten. Die Zeit überlebt mein treues Gudereit schon noch. Selbst zusammenstellen kommt nicht in Frage, da absoluter Laie. Edit: Danke für die Vorschläge. Canyon Commuter 7, Diamant 247 Deluxe und VSF T-500 sind mal auf die Liste zur engeren Auswahl gelandet. Sowas habe ich mir vorgestellt.
