Went out riding today because the weather was absolutely beautiful. Riding one of the longer routes around my area and I get to a massive stretch of downhill. As I’m going around a bend on the road I get passed by a car and then get cut off by the same car. Mind you I was hitting speeds of 40 mph down this road (recored on Strava) and as a cyclist who is rarely in these situations the only thing I could do now was grab both brake triggers and pray. As luck would have it I slowed down, not immediately or even very much but just enough to hit a power slide so cool that the car going the other way spun around to get a second look. As you can tell by the title it did not go well. I flew off the bike and suffered major road rash burns along my shoulder and down the right side of my back. I was wearing my helmet and the ems that checked me out said I was very lucky and the helmet did exactly what it was meant to. Anyway, just remember always wear a helmet no matter what and everyone be careful going into this biking season. A car will always win. Edit: thank you all for the messages, everyone is so nice here. Long time reader, first time poster. Edit 2: Again Thank you everyone for the messages and the interaction. I didn’t expect this to blow up. Some clarity for those talking about gear and what was worn. I did of course wear a helmet, but I was also wearing bike gloves to keep my hands warm so those did minimize the damage to my hands. As for my bike shirt, maybe I’m wrong but I believe that the fabric may have been abrasion resistant because there were very minor slashes or holes in the shirt and most of the damage to myself came from sharp or pointy stones scraping me after I fell. As for the shoulder I landed on, I can move my arm but it does very well hurt. I would like to reinforce the fact that I did get very lucky, but I do believe that certain precautions can be taken to allow riders to ride like I do. This event hasn’t scared me from biking and as soon as my shoulder heals I will back to bigger and safer rides. Hope to see you all out on the roads and trails! Happy riding!

Hi all, (sorry for long post) Bit of backstory. During my teens and early 20s I was very fit, and a semi-pro Handball player. But like a lot of young men, at university I stopped playing, and started more un-healthy habits like drinking and smoking. I was still fit, but with time, I slowly started to gain more fat. At around 28+- I was my heaviest ever, at around 85kg with 1.73m, and got tired of listening the same jokes, so I bought a bike, and started Zwift. I was hooked, and my competitive side came up. In about 6 months I went from 85kg to 72kg. During this time, I also started riding outside, and I love it. But... with covid and some personal problems (new job, new house, etc...) I slowly started to gain weight and losing motivation. I still rode outside and zwift. But not as hard and not as often. Well... I'm now almost 36, and in February my daughter was born, and I made the decision that I want to be an example, and have the energy and motivation to play with her, So I decided to loose weight. I got on the scale, and was at 82.6kg. I Cut most crap of my diet, and started to cycle/zwift more consistent. As you can imagine, this is not easy with a newborn, and most days I'm always running between work, helping my wife, cycle, food, etc.. So I tend to do sessions of 45m-1h during the week (3x) and 1 or 2 longer rides outside during weekend (1h30-2h). Now the problem... is the weight is not comming off as I was expecting. I started mid February, and I've weighted myself every day, and I'm always between 80.5, and 81.5kg. Last friday I was at 80.2, and saturday at lunch, my wife was craving Burguer King, so we went there, at dinner, I just had vegetable soup. Sunday I was at 81.3. I know I must keep eating well, and doing exercise, but It is really demoralizing to be consistent for 1 and a half month, eat a burger, and all the hard work going out the window.

I've only been on 4 rides, all under 50 miles. I'm working my way up to 10,000 one day. LOL Just kidding. Before I begin let me just say, the two things I hate about cycling are 1) Headwinds and 2) HILLS, other than that I love cycling. But you can never know the direction of a headwind till your out there and hills are gods way of seeing just how much you want it. I think. Maybe it's just the environment. But HILLS, how do some of you attack them? And I'm talking from a full stop to a downhill / uphill. I think both are completely different.

Für diesen Frühling und Sommer spiele ich mit dem Gedanken, mich ans Bikepacking zu wagen: Zuerst wollte ich mich im April/Mai mit einer 2-3 Tagestour und Übernachtungen in Pensionen rantasten und anschließend im Juni-September ein- oder mehrmals bei Gefallen eine längere Reise unternehmen. Ich bin mit einem Gravelbike unterwegs und suche dafür noch etwas an Routeninspiration. KOmme aus Bayern, eine Alpenüberquerung im Spätsommer wäre daher naheliegend oder auch ein Abstecher nach Tschechien. Habt ihr Empfehlungen oder Tipps?

Hallo zusammen, und direkt Entschuldigung, wenn das hier nicht der richtige Ort ist. Mein "lokaler" Fahrradladen ist leider inkompetent bzw meldet sich inzwischen gar nicht mehr. Darum hoffe ich, dass mir hier jemand weiterhelfen kann. Wie heißt das Plastikteil am Ende des Schutzblechs und die kleinen "Kabelhalter" am Rahmen? Kann man dieses Plastikteil einfach aufs Schutzblech schieben/klicken? Freue mich über jeden Hinweis. Danke!
