Just had some angry dude yell "get off the road! that's what side walks are for" to me while pedaling on the side of the road. He then yelled "F you" and flipped me off. It was literally just me and this one vehicle on this wide ass road. Like man doesn't even know basically traffic laws lol I'm sure we can all relate but I just needed a quick vent Edit: feel free to vent similar stories

Last year i used to be roadie, everything was all about stats, speed and going fast. Over time ive lost the joy of riding... i was so obsessed with stats, at some point i had to ignore my friends who were riding just for fun and exploring the world. Now ive realized that riding is no longer fun but more like stressful work to me. Ive decided to stop caring about stats and stop looking on my garmin edge 830. Since i took that bullet i feel like im reborn i feel like im once again enjoying the bike and going out with friends for ride. Nothing is important than your mental health my friends. Dont let your ego beat you, stop looking at stats, stop being a jerk otherwise it will eat you alive.

I surf a bit and cycle a bit for fitness but but by no means a fanatic. I recently bought a set of rollers because it looked like a bit of a challenge and would give me a few more opportunities to cycle for excersize. Like most people I struggled to get my balance straight away on the rollers but got there in the end and really enjoyed the learning process. In the mean-time I missed a month or so of surfing due to an injury and other factors, so I didn't have high expectations when I finally hit the water again yesterday. Turns out, I surfed out of my skin. I felt super balanced and centred on my board and I'm sure it has something to do with learning to use the rollers. I expect that this would also benefit skiiers and possibly many other sports where balance is a factor. Anyway, just stoked and loving it and wanted to share my experience and encourage others to give rollers a go.

So I had a bicycle accident last November (2022) and fractured my pelvis. Lucky for me it was just me, I was not struck by a car and had no head, neck or other injuries. I am not sure exactly what happened but I think it was due to my rear wheel hitting a puddle with some dirt and losing traction the day after some rain. I hit hard on my left side, resulting in the fracture. I will spare you all the crappy details but I was at urgent care (I didn't think it was broken after the accident), Audubon ER and finally University of Louisville ER (the local trauma center due to kinetics of the accident). About 14+ hours of waiting in medical facilities. Lots of fun, especially when they told me, repeatedly, I may need surgery.... 1/10 do not recommend. I waited to make this post because I wanted to see how my additional cycling insurance would work out. As a member of USA Cycling I have additional accident reimbursement for non-race events, like this ride. I filed a claim in early November after the accident and I am finally getting reimbursed this month, just waiting on one more payment to be complete. While it took a while to get reimbursed it saved me a little over $1K total in medical bills after insurance. The USA Cycling membership is $70 a year and the reimbursement program is $0 deductible and covers up to $25,000 in medical costs. I had joined in Dec of 2021 and of course renewed in Dec of 2022. I will be a member of USA cycling for as long as I am riding outdoors regularly. You can't beat that peace of mind for $70 a year. Plus you get other member benefits and some discounts, well worth the cost for sure. Also if you live in Louisville the US cyclocross championship will be held here in Dec of this year and I think you can get some additional benefits and access with a membership. It could have been much worse, and most importantly my bike only had minor damage!

After sporadic rides over the past 2 years I put my fancy summer wheels on, pumped up my tyres, cleaned the bike up and went on a ride. It was only 12miles and my legs are wrecked now but for the first time in years I really enjoyed myself. Unlike when I last rode regularly I wasn’t trying to push my FTP to over 300w and pressuring myself to train and ruining my mental health at the same time. It was getting to 300w that tipped me over the edge, no fanfare, no parade when I reached MY goal and to top it off it was in a ten mile TT and I only equalled my PB!Sure, today I had the power numbers there in front of me, but I actually looked at them and laughed at myself in a positive way. But I also looked at the birds and the fields and saw things. And to further take away pressure I tore my hamstring in January and have had issues with it, I had to pass a beep test this week and did. Today was the first exercise since then that was for me, not for my job, that I didn’t have to find a balance between keeping fit and re-injuring myself. There’s nothing else to this post other than that, I just wanted to share that I felt good, relieved to have enjoyed myself even. Here’s to more of that!
