First ride went well... Most of it. Then I fell before a crossing with two cars waiting for me to cross. Today was my second ride. Finally I made it through without fa-... I fell again in front of two cars waiting for me to cross at almost the same crossing. At this point while I was getting up I almost laughed because it was the exact same brainfart, at almost the exact same crossing, with the exact same number of cars staring at me making a fool of myself. Issue both times was I kept forgetting my other foot was clipped in and I lose my balance and fall towards the side that was clipped in. I have no issues clipping out and stopping or clipping in and going. It's just that one moment where I relax and forget my other foot is connected to the damn pedal while I wait for cars to stop and I move it as if it wasn't clipped in. *Edit:* *Just got back from my third ride. and I...... didn't fall this time! Modified my route where I do twice as many crossings this time as well (including my favorite crossing). Also happened to be my longest ride so far by 2 miles. Really wanted to get it down and not be afraid of it so I did this.* *Although I did have one hiccup where I was crossing (pressed the button, cars stopped) and this fucking idiot, despite seeing the blinking crossing lights, both my bike lights flashing as well, and every other car stopped, decided to go and I had to quickly clip out in the middle of the road. Oh and this was the second half of the crossing, more than enough time to understand that someone is crossing.*

Just because i decide to drive closer to the side of the road dosent mean cars are allowed to close pass a cyclist. They should overtake with 1.5meters of space regardless of the scenario and only when its safe to do so. Now some people will say "cause you allowed them to squeeze passed". But it dosent make it right, theres a hierarchy on the roads.

Was doing a fondo in France and I asked a local French gentleman his suggestions on the upcoming mountain climb. He said "we have a saying in French...à gauche, which means 'to the left'...you need to shift your gears to the left and climb on the easiest cog. Don't try to save that one cog for later, go to the left as soon as the climb begins. Later in the ride I was in a small group with one guy from the UK who said "Perhaps I was a bit of a 'Fred' in opting to do this." I hadn't heard that term before and looked it up. Any unique or interesting sayings or quotes in your region / language?

I've been doing structured training on TrainerRoad for half a year or so. The workouts felt appropriately difficult and structured, and although my FTP did increase, it wasn't a major increase (I was probably too used to seeing beginners see huge increases due to "noob gains"). This made me question a lot of things about the training, and whether I was doing things correctly with nutrition, rest, etc. However, I recently went on a few rides, and it showed me that there is so much more progress that is made outside of just the FTP. To name a few: * I was able to hold higher sub-threshold/threshold powers for a longer time * My legs didn't get filled with lactic acid and get fatigued even after long times at high power (relative to my FTP) * My heart rates for rides were lower * I was able to stay at a much higher Z2 power zone while still going relatively fast and having a conversation with other riders * Recovery is much faster. Even after century rides, I am more or less ready to go by the next day or 2 Just wanted to post this for others who might be discouraged by just seeing a single FTP number and basing all of their gains off of it!

Hi all, many YouTube channels, blogs, and other social media posts have gushed about the Triban RC120 from Decathlon, and I'd like to share my honest long-term review after owning it for 2 years. I rode this bike for leisure and workout and commute. according to Strava I rode just under 700mi not counting regular commutes, so total is probably less than 1000 miles. I bought this bike for 700 USD from the Decathlon California store, if I remember correctly. We aren't as lucky as in Europe where this same bike is a lot cheaper. recently the price of the bike surged to 900 USD. 1) a critical flaw that doesn't get talked about a lot with this bike is the lack of a derailleur hanger. Early on when I was still learning to ride, I fell twice and bent the derailleur. without a dedicated derailleur hanger, if there was a more serious crash you might have to bend the frame to realign the hanger. 2) within the first three months, I also had to do a bottom bracket overhaul since there were some defects since there were clear "clicking" in the BB. Decathlon refunded me for this repair which was nice. 3) There's a rubber stopper in on the rear wheel that squeaks a lot, not sure if it has any impact on performance but it's kind of annoying to listen to. 4) today I learned from my LBS that the front and back steel cassettes look very worn already, despite not having 1000 miles on it, and the I've cleaned the chains twice a year, and lubed it much more regularly. This is probably a quality issue since it's too early for these components to wear out. 5) also beware of their online reviews! I tried posting some of my quality-related concerns in a review on their website and gave a 3 star out of 5, they tagged my review/comments for revisions and never allowed it to post. 6) the good thing? It can go fast enough for a beginner, the brakes work pretty well, the shifting is decent (unless you fall once and knock the derailleur out of alignment and the shifting is never as crisp again). It has made me fall in love with cycling though and I think that's a positive for the bike. Overall I'd rate it as 5/10. The US prices are outrageous and I wouldn't pay 900$ for this bike. would I buy it again? I think it's an OK entry into road cycling. You definitely get what you pay for and there are quality issues. I can't speak to the reliability of other 1000$ entry-level bikes from more reputable brands, but I'm hoping that they're better than this. I certainly don't think I'd gush and praise this model which is the impression I'd get reading online. It actually also makes me wary of spending more money on more expensive triban/Van Rys models, since I'm now scared that they have nice components but will have quality issues in other areas that will creep up on me after a few years. TL:DR: if you're getting into cycling, consider alternatives even if they cost more.
