So here it goes. Do we wear the padded bike shorts (bib/bibless/full length bike padded bottom wear) over your innerwear or under your innerwear? Have been biking for a few days now and almost biking for an hour at Max before which my bottoms starts to hurt. I am heavyweight and use cycling to get some workouts besides gym. So what do men do, wear padded shorts comando or over inner wears? Edit: Thank you every one, so Commando it is. Going to buy one from decathlon for this week and see before buying the costly ones. Cheers!!! Edit 2: Ok guess this sub just keeps on going. Ok let me ask you this, how do you clean that padded/gel shorts or bib? Doesn't it get nasty after a sweaty ride? So machine wash after every ride?

So on the past weekend I did my longest ride yet from Vienna to Budapest, 272k. Even though the wind conditions were not perfect, the ride was surprisingly doable. At the end we had an average speed of 26km/h which was fine. Nevertheless, it was some piece of work. The biggest problem I encountered was not in my legs but in my nutrition. I basically ate every chance I got. Energy bars, gels, occasionally some bread from supermarkets on the way. Still, altogether, I did only eat around 1k to 1,3k kcal. Regarding the fact that I burned around 6,7k kcal (according to Garmin), that is probably much too less. I also felt during the last 70 to 80k that my body probably would need more fuel. But I just was so sick of gels and bars at the end of the ride. I was also kinda worried that the stuff is gonna upset my stomach at some point, and I definitely wanted to avoid that. So how do you guys deal with nutrition on longer rides? How much do you eat and how do you plan it? Also, do you stick with the standard stuff like bars or gels? Have you ever gotten sick because of eating too much of that stuff?

I’m sure some people are gonna comment here and yell at me but honestly my life is such a trainwreck I don’t even care at this point. I went to visit my mom at work today, and I accidentally was in the far right lane (only for turning right) when I had to go straight. So I just turned anyway, turned around in a neighborhood and went back to the intersection. I saw a kid on a bike (maybe 10 y/o) approaching the crosswalk. I thought to myself, wow he looks really young to be riding around alone especially in this extremely busy area. I had to make a right turn to go home. It was a red light. Nobody was coming, but the kid was waiting to cross the road I was turning onto while still on his bike. I decided not to turn because he wasn’t even looking my direction, only looking one way, and I didn’t trust him not to ride out in front of me. Then, my light turns green. I look at the kid again to see if he crosses the street. He wasn’t moving, still looking away from me. So I thought, okay I’d he’s just gonna keep waiting, I’m gonna turn. Literally as soon as I hit the gas, he starts to pedal out into the street STILL LOOKING THE OTHER WAY. I know he’s a kid, but Jesus Christ we were taught to look both ways before crossing any street by age 4. He literally didn’t even see my car turning until I slammed on the brakes mere feet away from him. Then he just stood there looking at me instead of crossing the street so I had to drive around him. I looked at the crosswalk sign as I drove away and could barely see, but it did in fact give the walking pedestrian signal. I already know we’re supposed to yield to pedestrians within the crosswalk as long as they have the walking person icon. However, the kid wasn’t even moving and I couldn’t see if the sign said to walk or not. I feel bad and I’m fucking thankful I didn’t hit him, but I’m also angry because he really should not be riding alone in such a busy area. Had I hit him, I would definitely be seen at fault since he had the walk signal. You’re allowed to ride bikes on sidewalks in this state, but I don’t know if you have to walk them across crosswalks as opposed to riding them. He wasn’t even wearing a helmet. Most people driving aren’t even paying attention nowadays, good thing it was me instead of someone else. This could have ended very, very badly. Fuck me and my life :/ EDIT: In order to make this post, Reddit told me to prove I wasn’t a robot by choosing the photos with crosswalks in them. Thanks Reddit. Thanks for that.

Been riding about a year and completed my first metric century last week! Few points of reflection: 1. My previous longest ride was 50 miles with 500ft of elevation. This ride was 66 miles with almost 4,000 feet of elevation. It probably would’ve been wiser to do less elevation for the century. I also was 4,000 feet higher than where I normally cycle which led to more exhaustion. 2. I relied on the Strava route builder which took me down a gravel road for 15 miles, 2-3 of which was chunky rock that I struggled on my gravel bike. 3. Pacing early on was key. I wasn’t super happy with the overall speed but taking it easy and the elevation were too major factors. On to the imperial! https://imgur.com/a/I4FeFKv
