Is there a point in cycling rain jackets?

I moved to Portland and gonna be my first time consistently riding in rain. For workout rides (non commuting), where I’m already wearing kit I fully intend to sweat in, is there any point in getting a rain jacket? I come from running and I can imagine it’s the same problem on the bike. It’s a breathability vs waterproof issue. If you’re going to get a waterproof jacket, you’ll likely have poor breathability and you’ll end up sweating from the inside ultimately leaving you still soaked. I know some brands have tried to minimize this and some have gotten better at it, but it’s truly never both. Unlike running, cycling gear is usually much more expensive and “rain” jackets often start at $200-$300. Anything less is more like a wind jacket which still doesn’t breathe well and feel like I’m riding in a plastic bag.

Am I missing out not getting a more expensive bike?

I currently have a road bike that cost around €650 from Decathlon that I bought 3 years ago. I’ve been riding it an average of 100km a week since then so naturally needed to get some bits repaired every now and again. For a while I’ve been thinking about spending around €3k on a new road bike from Canyon. However, I just got a service on my current bike and it runs amazingly well, super smooth, reliable and I can ride it real fast! I am 2m so naturally it is a little small for me even being the largest size they had. Now, am I really missing out on a more expensive bike? Is the difference really that big or would it be an amazing new thing to get a better bike?
