Today I was driving down a familiar stretch of road near my house and there was a cyclist riding slowly along the side of the lane. He had a child’s seat on the back of the bike. Every car drove very slowly and gave him as much space as possible. Nobody wants to hurt a kid. As I pulled to the side of him to pass, I see that it’s a probably-homeless guy and the kid’s seat is filled with his various meager belongings. No child. Should I buy a seat and a doll for my commuter? Has this man inadvertently discovered the ultimate safety accessories?

I am unfit, have had a diet of mcdonalds and late night takeaways for the past 3 years (im 31). I recently ended up in hospital due to thinking I was having a heart attack and it ended up being a panic attack. I had an ecg, xray and blood tests done and got a confirmed clean bill of health. Since then my anxiety has been pretty bad, so I decided on a lifestyle change. Im eating better, and recently bought a bike. I'm not overweight, just unfit from a couch locked lifestyle. It has been years since I did any form of exercise. Is it safe to push myself, given that I have been told my heart/lungs are all good? I think in my mind Im having a bit of anxiety at the thought of pushing myself until my heart explodes or something from lack of use. Also any suggestions on a good starting distance for someone in my situation? Thanks edit - thanks for all the replies, I'm going to go through them all a bit later on but from what I have seen already there is some great advice and I already feel better about getting out there.

Take it from your stupid friend IVBIVB, listen when the nurse says "no extreme exercise after giving blood". I gave blood last night. I do it every 8ish weeks. Yay me. No, I am a MORON. 20 hours later I decided the "24 hours no exercise" was aggressive, decided to try the first 30% of my Saturday ride which is all the hills. I've always waited 48 hours but this is the only day I had a chance. How bad could it be? 10 minutes in, I felt tired. Chalked it up to work.25 minutes in, I was cursing myself. 35 minutes in, I was at the top of the biggest hill, only a handful of 1-3% grades left, so finished the ride. Was only a 70 minute ride. Final pace was 30% off average. And the SCREWIEST difference between my power zone bar chart and heart zone bar chart you've ever seen.

Maybe it's cause I'm on a ebike and am cheating, but it is kind of a calming feeling. You know that moment when you're on the street, taking a lane, going plenty fast enough to be in front of a vehicle and them not try to pass you because you're going fast enough. But seeing where everything is in like a 360 sphere and just knowing where the cars are, prepping for the light change, watching for the people, and just being in the moment? It's hard to put into words but it kind of feels like a sensory overload but in a good way. I know I'm crazy but I can't be the only one who experiences this.

Meine Auswahl wäre: - Rondo Mutt (Gravel) - Trek Checkpoint ALR 4 und 5 (Gravel) - Breezer Thunder (Stahl-Mtb) - Kona Unit (Stahl-Mtb) - Kona Dew (Urban) - Orbea Carpe (Trekking?) Zum Glück werden Fahrräder immer hässlicher, je teurer sie werden. Zumindest im Wettkampf Bereich. Extra Punkte gibt es für e-bikes und fully, die tatsächlich gut aussehen. Moin, ich möchte mit meiner Katze gerne regelmäßige Fahrrad Ausflüge machen. Ich hatte überlegt mir einen Racktime Topit Frontgepäckträger dafür anzuschaffen und dann den Katzenkorb mit einer Racktime Schiene zu versehen. Hat jemand diesen Frontgepäckträger und kann ein kurzes Review dazu geben? Ansonsten bin ich auch super dankbar für Alternativvorschläge. Muss nicht Racktime sein. Ich hab nur schon die klapprige Klapperkiste am Heck und bin außer vom lauten Scheppern sehr zufrieden :D

I need to mention that I deliver food via bike in the capital of Hungary, so I can only talk about my experiences here. So in the past one and a half year I have been working here, sadly I can count how many times I saw fellow curriers and cummuters alike, signaling their intentions clearly to other road users There are days or even weeks of 8 or 10 hours work periods while I see none do the above. Not to mention running stop signs and red lights and not yielding and of course using the one way roads as playgrounds, while the pavement seems somehow a highway for a lot bike owners and . So it is not hard to imagine why drivers and pedestrians may tend to dislike them, cyclists alltoghether. So in order to drive safely I have to follow the rules and watch out for cyclists on top of that for example while in narrow crossroads because of these tendencies. A lots of times I got to avoid unplesent situations because I was prepared for unlawfuly travelling cyclists. And the lights of course is another topic. There were times when I indicated my turn on an evening night to the left (so I go through the other lane), so I indicate and check If the driver right beyind me got the signal and or slows down, so I take my turn and then I have to hard brake on the other lane because there were indeed cyclists travelling with no lights in the dark. And it was an ok lit street as well, but if they hug the right side of their lane you just can't see them. Last night one just goes through an intersectionwith no lights and for one I only saw him/her while was passed the car's lights and that car did not even slow down, eather he did not see him/her at all or he saw him/her and just calculated no braking was viable. So yeah.. But for a good example a few days ago I saw someone signaling his intention to turn a good 20 meters before the the turn itself and after that signaled again befor approaching the turn. Hell , it even made my day and he is the reason I'm writing this. So for summery and adding to the topicas well a few points. If one wants to safely travel and be predictable. *follow the rules (obviously, but not so obvious after all) *wear at least a helmet *check the weather conditions, drive accordingly (wind intensity, rain, snow) *check the wear on your brakes and braking distance, drive accordingly * proper lights, (PROPER) *watch out for following distances *signal your intentions even if it is a 'clear' road it must be a habit *check if your signal got the attention eather visually or via audiable signs (must add electric vehichles are hard to hear) especially if your intention is to turn through an other lane or just switching lanes. *never use headphones( because honking, sirens etc.) *watch out for brake lights, reverse lights( I'm not sure how that's called in english) *watch out for pedestrians near pedestrian crossings even if it is red for them *watch for car turn signals ahead and beside you *check your surroundings so you can anticipate of future events *if there is no bike lane and on a narrow road do not overtake cars while they stopped for a red light ( they just have to re-overtake you adding more danger to your commute) *stay hydrated and carry snacks if it is a longer journey I am sure you can think of more and if you do, please shate your insights.

Wie seht ihr das, sollte man sich als Privatmensch mit nur 2-3 Fahrrädern im Haushalt einen Drehmomentschlüssel anschaffen? Ich meine, es gibt gute, die sehr teuer sind und günstige, die vermutlich nicht präzise sind - und damit ihren Zweck eigentlich nicht erfüllen. Grundsätzlich muss man ja auch die Geräte gelegentlich neu eichen lassen. Dennoch geht es ja auch irgendwie nicht ohne. Oder wie seht ihr das?
