Hey guys I finally found my dear carbon road bike on Facebook marketplace! It was stolen like six months ago and I filed a police report. Unfortunately I didn’t have the serial number recorded but I recall I gave an accurate description of the bike. I’ve contacted local PD’s and they are willing to support me in retrieving it. Any tips for retrieving it? Have any of you been in this scenario before? Thank you guys, wish me luck!

Took my bike in to get a new chain after mine snapped. The guy in the shop examined my bike, said that putting a new chain on my current gears would be too dangerous as the chain would seize the cassette and I'd go over the handlebars. He said to fit a new chain safely I'd need £150 of new parts + labour. I know very little about bike repair and have no idea if this guy is being ultra professional or feeding me a line to get some cash. Any advice would be appreciated

Wie lernt man am besten am Rad zu schrauben?

Moin zusammen, ich möchte mich in nächster Zeit mehr mit meinen Rad beschäftigen, als es bei jeder Kleinigkeit zum Radladen schleppen zu müssen. Jetzt frage ich mich aber, wie ich hier am Besten anfange. Learning by doing ist sicher der beste Ansatz. Aber so ganz ohne Anleitung/Führung fühle ich mich hier schon etwas verloren. Kennt jemand zufällig "Radschraubkurse", wo man die Basics lernt? Nach dem Schlauchwechsel hört es hier bei mir auf. Sonst habe ich noch das "Blaue Buch der Fahrradtechnik" gefunden. Das sieht auch ziemlich gut aus. Folus wäre bei mir auch eher das Thema Rennrad. Ich vermute aber das die Überschneidungen vom normalen "Stadtrad/Tourenbike" zum Rennrad recht stark sind. Vorallem für einen Anfänger. Falls es hilft: Ich lebe in Köln

So, that’s basically it. If cycling was a party and everyone who ever lived was invited, who would your bike be and why? And, of course, feel free to slap a ‘Hello, my name is’ tag on any other bikes out there. I can’t see this breaking a rule and it may well help someone choose their next bike if ‘coolness’ is important to them. How long should bike frames last?

I recently took my 2012 cyclocross bike in to have some upgrades installed, and yesterday they called with the unfortunate news that my frame has a substantial crack on the head tube and is essentially totaled. It's not too big of a deal, I had already been considering an upgrade, but in casual conversation with the store employee, I asked what would likely have caused the crack since I had never wrecked the bike. He asked how old it was, and when I said 10 years, he said companies claim frames have about a 5 year life with regular riding. Obviously a lot of bikes last a lot longer than 5 years, but now I'm a little hesitant about buying a used replacement. How old of a bike would you be comfortable purchasing? I've been looking at bikes on theproscloset, and the best prices are on bikes from before 2015-2016, while more recent bikes feel close to the price of a new bike. For what it's worth, I have already been screwed once on a used bike I bought over 10 years ago when the derailleur hanger snapped off and ruined the entire frame only a couple weeks after buying it.

commuter thoughts: invest in a nice bike or an ebike?

Hey all, I ride to and from work about 6-7 miles each day. I don't have a car, so my bike is also my main mode of transportation (getting groceries, running errands, etc.). I've been riding a really cheap, beat up commuter that cost about $250 since 2016. I've kept it in really good shape, added some new wheels and some other minor fixes, but lately I've just been thinking man, it takes more effort than it should to ride. I started getting around by bike as an experiment and wham 6 years passed before I knew it. So anyway, I've been considering getting an e-bike for practical purposes. However, looking at the price tag ($1700 for the aventon level), I'm thinking my god... I could get an insane road bike for that price. I've never ridden a "nice" bike, and I'm curious how the speed/efficiency compares to an ebike/my current bike. Obviously an e-bike can be ridden with 0 effort, but would a high-end road bike be such a smooth ride that I could say, maintain \~20 mph for <10 miles with minimum effort? I should add because it may be relevant: I'm not a cyclist but a fairly competitive runner, finishing multiple marathons in \~2:50, so I don't consider myself a "cyclist" fit but I'm in decent shape.

Was ist für euch eine realistische Pendelentfernung? Ich bin bisher fast immer entweder mit Rad oder ÖPNV gependelt, allerdings nie mehr als ca. 10 Kilometer (Radstrecke). Momentan betrachte ich eine Arbeitsmöglichkeit mit folgenden Alternativen, für einen 40 km Weg (einfache Fahrt) an 3 Tagen pro Woche: 1. 18 Kilometer = ca. 1 Stunde mit dem Rad zu einem Bahnhof im der Mitte, dann 20 Minuten Bahnfahrt, dann noch mal 20 Minuten zu Fuss oder alternativ 5 Minuten mit einem Bahnhofschrottrad. Der Fußweg wäre nicht unwillkommen, ich arbeite im Büro und zu Fuss gehen ist sehr gut für den Rücken. 2. 4 Kilometer zum S-Bahnhof, Hinfahrt mit S-Bahn und Umsteigen Zug (1:30 h) mit Radmitnahme, Rückfahrt dann 2:20 h ganz mit dem Rad. Problem sind hier die S-Bahn Mitnahmeregelungen, hin auf dem Rad und zurück mit dem Zug wäre einfacher, aber ich befürchte, ich würde dann nicht wirklich ausgeruht ankommen. 3. die ganzen 40 Kilometer mit einem Velomobil (das ich dafür kaufen müsste, der Preis ist kein nennenswertes Problem). Das wäre so 1:15 h Weg, rechnerisch die schnellste Alternative, es ist eine relativ ländliche Gegend, flaches Gelände. oft Westwind,kein Stadtverkehr, also eigentlich ideal für so ein Fahrzeug. Momentan erscheint mir die Kombi (1) aus Radstrecke + Zug am einfachsten und attraktivsten. Mit dem Zug hin und dann mit dem Rad zurück ist vielleicht im Sommer eine sehr nette Alternative. Und das Velomobil wirkt wie eine reizvolle Option, müste ich mal ausprobieren, ich hatte bisher keins. Was sind eure Erfahrungen? Was hilft eurer Erfahrung nach dabei, solche Strecken zu pendeln?

Ahoi, Ich plane gerade ein paar mehrtägige Radtouren für den Sommer (mit Zelt) und stieß dabei auf [Wildes SH](https://www.wildes-sh.de/), die Trekkingplätze in Holstein anbieten (aka "Hier gibt es keine Anzeige, wenn du dein Zelt aufschlägst"). Weiß jemand, ob es so etwas ausgiebiges von anderen Bundesländern auch gibt? In NRW finde ich da z.B. nur ein paar kleine Plätzchen in der Eifel und im Sauerland, dafür aber z.B. totale Campingplatzleere zwischen Bestwig und Dortmund auf dem Ruhrtalradweg. VG
