Here in Texas, we just had another guy get run off the road because someone was throwing trash in his face while he tried to ride his bike in the bike lane. He was okay thankfully. Are there any cities in the US that anyone is aware of where a human riding a bicycle is still a human? I’m sick of it. My wife and I have remote jobs and plenty of money. We can move. Is there a safe cycling city in the US? Does such a place exist?

Hi there fellow cyclists ! I'm used to riding in the city and I respect the code diligently. I'm also reasonably fast and confident on the bike, fast enough to ride at the speed limit of my town anyway, so no one should be angry because I slow them down. And still, I get in trouble. Just today, some guy followed me for several blocks until he could yell at me that I burned a red light. On his way to get "justice" he was way over the speeding limit multiple time, almost ran over multiple pedestrian and was not far from pushing me out of the road in the end. I can't totally shake the idea that one of this day, a similar moron will just go one little step further in his mission and just run me over with his car. So... do you have any tip to get over it ? I'm all ears. (and for the record, I did not burn it. where I live we have sign allowing to pass some red light by bike, but the signs are somehow invisible to motorists) EDIT: thank you all for your answers. A lot of you are talking about guns and camera. In my situation that's unlikely to help. The other guy won't probably cary a gun as it's illegal here. And here the police don't act on such video (unless it gets REALLY bad, but if no one is dead or hurt yet they don't care).

I have a friend who I do most of my outdoor rides with. He is around 110kg and says his FTP is about 250. I am 69kg and have an FTP of 178. It gives us a pretty similar w/kg calculation. Now, I can smoke him up pretty much any hill, which makes me happy. But I just can not keep up with him going downhill or even really on the flats, he just seems to pull away from me with ease. What gives? I assume for the downhill sections, more weight=faster rolling speed? What about on the flats? Should a similar w/kg give us pretty similar speeds? Thanks, A noob.

Need consensus on rear light in night - blinking or steady

I'm seeing so many conflicting posts on how to run rear lights in the night time with traffic. So far the consensus is:Front light -> 500 lumens or above, blinking in day, steady and pointing down in the dark.Rear light in the day, blinking. Cannot find anything conclusive on running the rear light in the dark. Some say it differentiates, some say it causes fixation, law in some countries say only steady. Do people run the rear light with blinkers to save battery or is there any merit to it? ​ Also, for city rides in the dark, is 30 lumens good? People recommend 100 but that seems overkill and only suited to day visibility
