I live in Texas and have a valid CCL so for the sake of any argument over legality, I can legally carry on my bike. I'm currently training for the MS150 and primarily ride a trail in north Houston, and I never once thought of needing to carry a weapon until an interaction I had last night while on a ride with my wife. If you're curious as to what happened, you can ask in the comments and I'll answer, but my main concern is getting feedback from anyone that does carry while they ride long distances, what do you use? I know my options are frame bags, seat bags, in a camel back or on my body (which aside from weight in my jersey I sweat so much I'd really rather not do). Thanks.

I want the hear peoples opinion on this one. I came across a post on Instagram stating that us as cyclist should not dehumanize bike thieves. The post then continued on saying that we should understand where the thief comes from and what situation they were in to steal your bike and not dehumanize them as bike theft is a result of wealth inequality. ​ How I see it: Bike theft is intentional and opportunistic, bike theft can psychologically destroy a person. For example, I built my first bike by hand, and I bought it because I saved up money for it. When it was stolen, a piece of me left with it. The bike was stolen from a padlocked garage where only less than 30 people know the code. That is more than theft to me, I cant humanize a person who does that, but thats just me. ​ What do you all think?

I've been trying for months and months with just one hand on, or a few fingers, but the mental game was a huge hurdle. My brain wouldn't let me let go. Ortlieb scheint ja demnächst ein paar unauffällige, und dazu noch leicht abmontierbare Gepäckträger vorzustellen. Sehr schick … wobei wenn der Gepäckträger leicht abzumontieren ist, dann muss er ja auch gar nicht mehr unbedingt so unauffällig zu sein, damit das Rad immer noch "schick" aussieht, wenn man mal kein Gepäck dabei hat. Meine Frage ist aber: was haltet ihr davon? Die Befestigung an der Sattelstütze erscheint mir ziemlich wackelig zu sein. Wenn der Gepäckträger mit nur einer Tasche einseitig belastet wird, dann kann das doch nicht besonders robust sein. Hinzu kommt, dass mir etwas unklar ist, ob der Gepäckträger mit normalen Schutzblechen (z.B. SKS) verwendet werden kann.

I'm 6'2 and 380. I've been steadily losing weight over the last year, and im down from 430 to what i am now. I would love to get a bike so I can ride around town (I dont drive) and I'm worried about breaking bikes/parts. I'd love something more akin to a cruiser. I'd be riding on pavement only. It'd pretty much only be a commute bike/recreation bike. I'm just totally clueless to where to even start. Hi Everyone, I am just interested in you experience in Hot Waxing chain. This is originally a comment I posted in a separate post, but I thought its worth sharing. Let me know your experience and share some tips. **I am a hot wax convert**. Was it a lot of initial work? Yes. Comparable to cleaning your chain and re-lube? No. *Waxing wins hands down*. Performance is not my main concern. Cleanliness of the bike and longevity of the parts is what I want to achieve. If there is any gain, that's a bonus for me. **I have 3 Connex chains in rotation, but 2 chains should do**. My 200km re-wax routine is: * turn on the slow cooker * go for a ride, an hour or so ride, come home * take off used chain * dip the used chain in the wax * **shower** * put on fresh chain * pick up freshly the waxed chain, wipe off excess wax * break the links. **10 mins max**. Tips: * **Use Connex Wipperman chain with its quick links**. You can remove your chain without any tools and its reusable for as long as the chain will last. You can use some other reusable quick links, but chipped or missing tooth is not worth the savings. * Some Dura-ace/Ultegra chain have **special coating that affects the wax adhesion**. Do your research. * Once you done with the waxing, **wipe the chain** **until the outside of the chain is shiny clean**. Also worth re-wiping once you 'break" the waxed chain. * If or when you you want to wax, **use a brand new chain**, and if possible, new cassette and new chainrings * **Buy a small slow cooker** * **You don't need an ultrasonic cleaner.** Your chain should be OK to re-wax after a quick wipe. If its dirty, a quick wash and dry should suffice. * **Leave the chain in the hot wax for at least 15 minutes. Shake the chain as you dip it in the hot wax to remove the air bubbles**. If you are re-waxing a chain that just got rained on, dry it as best as you can and leave it in the hot wax for at least 30 minutes, lid off. * Don't wipe any wax flakes that landed on your bike. **Use a clean brush to brush it off.** **My observation:** **PLUS:** 1. **My chain and drivetrains are ABSOLUTELY clean**. *Clean clean*. I can do work on my bike whilst typing on my laptop. No oily residue, no black gunk , no need to clean you cassette and chain ring. I work clean, but still some odd black gunk find its way on me or my couch. Now, I just use a stiff dry brush. **This in itself is the reason why I converted**. 2. If and when I have to get stuck on repairing a flat tyre, **I don't have to deal with the oily dirt** (see no 1). 3. Rain or wet ride can be a bit annoying, but **if you are riding in wet conditions a lot, get a stainless steel Connex chain and re-wax after a wet ride**. Still worth it for me than having to clean and reoil after a wet ride. 4. *I don't have to deal with* ***degreasers, chain cleaner, special tool to clean chain*** *with sub par cleaning results.* Bonus: Since I can take off my chain anytime, **derailleur maintenance and bottom bracket inspection** (listening wear out bearings etc.) is so much easier: I am using Connex chains and quick links so I don't need any chain removal tools. ​ **MINUS:** 1. **Noise level**. After 100km or so, its a bit louder than a freshly lubed chain 2. **Freshly waxed chain flakes**. Easy to brush away, but if I didn't wipe it right, the wax flakes a bit. 3. **Possibly not that good in wet environment?** no biggy for me, since I re-wax after any wet ride anyway ​ I am on 2500km ish on 3 chains, each chain around 750kms. Definitely still looks new. I cant measure any stretch using digital caliper. I have spreadsheets to track this. There are lots of reference out there regarding longevity, so I cant comment much yet on this.
