I did my first 50k today. It felt great and the weather couldn’t have been better here in Central Florida. I made sure to properly hydrate and fuel mid ride and what a difference that made. I started with one bottle of ice water and one of Skratch Strawberry Lemonade and ended with Liquid IV in the last 10k. I definitely plan on doing that ride again, probably even longer next time!

Is FTP a relevant indicator for endurance riders?

Hello, I'm not a competitive rider, at least no more than to my self, but I like to ride really long distances and visit de country where I live. Over the years I've moved up to be able to ride up to 320km and 3100m, at an average of 26.5kmh according to strava measured with the wahoo bolt. I considered that I was kind of in shape. This year my goal was to be able to ride the 400km, so I had to increase my speed to be able to do it during sun time. &#x200B; I decided to buy a wahoo kickr to train a little bit and get stronger in this cold months where is hard to be outside because is dark and cold. I have done two FTP tests using the WAHOO app and the results are that I have a max. of around 800-900W and a FTP of 180-200W at 84kg (first a second attempt withing a week). &#x200B; And after some research that looks like really out of fitness values. Is this a bad indicator for long distance riders? Should I focus in other indicator to improve?

I started my ride and about a mile in, my tire suddenly deflated. I inspected the bike and found a 3 in drill bit punctured through the side of my back rim (not through the tire). Im new to cycling and I know its possible to puncture your tire of course but, this just seemed very odd given the angle. Sorry for my ignorance but, is this a common occurrence?
