Phase 1: Got a bike to get fitter. Dropped 60 pounds. (Well, diet was the key, my struggles while cycling kept me disciplined at meal time) Phase 2: Since riding was easier, I started biking to run errands as I live in a city, parking sucks if I'm just running into/out of a shop (ie pick up a pre-ordered takeout. Bike locked, and I stare at it while i'm in line so only quasi-unattended) Phase 3: Yesterday I realized if I picked a lunch place just a little further and biked there, I could get dessert and still be calorie neutral. I'm terrified, but also fascinated, to see what Phase 4 will be. I have a friend who loves to do 500 mile / 7 day tours, but at least right now the concept of shlepping everything along is a bit much. Lets call that Phase 5 or 6...

Nachdem ich in den letzten Tagen wieder mal eine besonders krasse Begegnung im Straßenverkehr hatte bei der ein Autofahrer mir gegenüber durch ruckartige Lenkbewegungen Rammversuche angetäuscht hat und mich mehrmals durch Spurwechsel geschnitten und ausgebremst hat, frage ich mich wie ich mit solchen Aggressionen im Straßenverkehr umgehen soll. Weil ich muss ganz ehrlich sagen mich machen solche Angriffe auf mich zum einen unglaublich wütend und zum anderen fühle ich mich solchen Attacken auch völlig wehrlos ausgeliefert. Das führt dann dazu, dass ich auch noch tage Später immer wieder extrem wütend und traurig zugleich werde weil ich mich so ohnmächtig fühle. Wie geht ihr mit solchen Situationen um?

Bin mit meiner Freundin in der 30er Zone auf der Straße (gab keinen Radweg) nebeneinander gefahren, aber dafür relativ dicht. Neben uns war genügend Platz zum Überholen mit sicherem Abstand. Dennoch halten es die Autofahrer für nötig so dicht wie möglich an mir vorbeizufahren und einzuscheren. Ist sogar fast zum Unfall gekommen hätte ich nicht abgebremst. Bin ich hier das Arschloch und habe mich falsch verhalten oder waren es die Autofahrer? Laut Gesetz ist nebeneinander fahren erlaubt, solange der Verkehr nicht behindert wird. War hier definitiv nicht der Fall. Wie sollte man sich verhalten? Was tun wenn ich doch mal angefahren werde?

I don’t have any friends who cycle (or really know much about cycling) but I’m too excited about my improvement not to share! I’m a novice cyclist and decided that I really want to apply myself and enter some gravel races this year. I started a proper training program in October with off-season weight training and running, base training and now am in the build phase. My FTP was 2.0 w/kg in October and I just hit 2.7 w/kg! I’m really proud of myself for sticking with my training program and am looking forward to my first race in three weeks.
