I got a free, fucked up bike, from the church up the road. Oh God I couldn't even peddle it, it cranked and popped and whined and I thought it would fall apart. It did. But it was all I had, so I rode. Just today I got a very nice bike, uses for 200, but it's bought new for about 500, I thought it would suck. But cycling is giving me back me health, building up confidence I havent had in years, stamina, and encouraging me to get up and go, it's so fun. I rode a shitty used bike 1 mile to my dealer and 1 mile home, for a couple years, and was gassed out making that trip every day. The past few days I've been working off the bike to build strength, and today I conquered 5 miles in under 20 minutes and when I got off the bike all I could think was Kroger is only 2 miles away, I could get a Gatorade or something and come back home. I didn't. I don't wanna push too hard, idk what that would have been like, it's a lot more hill that way, than the gentle slope and flat ride I had jus taken. But my legs have never burned in a way that didn't have me bitching. I'm glad I shadowed this sub for a little while, and I'm glad my first experience on a road racer came along just as I was recovering from years of heavy opiate use. And they said bikes were for kids.

On 5/22/2022 I'm riding my bike from Seattle, WA to Eugene, OR (318 miles) in one day to raise money for a nonprofit -- Diabetes Community Care Team -- which provides prescription aid and education for people with type 1 diabetes. As I'm sure you all know, insulin prices are a sizeable obstacle for the safety and wellbeing of many people with diabetes, and managing diabetes is hard even with proper access to insulin/medication. I myself have type 1 diabetes and have been a cyclist for many years. I'm posting here both because I plan to post a ride report after the fact (this is by far my longest ride I've ever done) and in hopes that anyone interested in our cause may contribute financially. We are a certified 501(c)(3). Flatted recently. Because I was convenient to a bike shop and because I'd had to do a roadside tube replacement just a week earlier (puncture), I turned the job over to the professionals. This is an Allez Elite road bike on Roadsport 700-26c clincher tires labelled "Pressure 100-125." As I left the shop for a coffee, I told the technician I'd been keeping the tires at \~80 and 85 psi, front and rear. These numbers were based on the Zipp calculator which I'd run a couple of times. As I was leaving with my repaired bike, the tech called out - pointedly, I thought, as though to suggest "take note" - that she'd pumped both tires to 105 psi. I guess I assumed I'd inputted bad data at Zipp so thanked her and left. Having run the calculator again (and Silca's), my results are the same; 80-85 psi. Why this large disparity do you think?

Gesucht: Fahrradwerkzeugkoffer "irgendwo dazwischen".

Ich hätte nach Jahren des Ausleihens oder Improvisierens gern mal einen Werkzeugkoffer mit fahrradspezifischen Werkzeugen (Kettenpeitsche, Kettensprenger, Kurbelabzieher etc). Bei Ebay gibt es solche Koffer schon für ganz kleines Geld, die sehen aber entsprechend aus. An Marken kenne ich nur Cyclus Tools oder Park Tools, das sieht mir aber eber nach Profianwender aus. Wenn ersteres mit Einhell/Scheppach zu vergleichen ist und letzteres mit Mafell/Festool, dann suche ich so etwas wie Makita, ich hoffe, der Vergleich erklärt, was ich meine. Der Koffer sollte das nötigste enthalten, um mein Rad zuhause selbst zu reparieren und nur noch mit ganz speziellen Dingen zum Schrauber zu müssen. Dinge wie Inbus, Schraubenschlüssel, Knarre etc habe ich zuhause. Gibt's da irgendwas empfehlenswertes?
