I regret it. I try not to do it, because it only makes things worse. I try to stay zen about these things but every now and then the stress of being surrounded by carbrain gets the better of me. A motorist performed a really shitty overtake on Friday, and as I was already stressed out by the twenty previous shitty overtakes, I lost my temper a bit and gave him the finger. A few hundred metres down the road, he stopped to pick someone up. Shouted abuse out the window as I passed, and I gave a little back. Stupid I know. A minute later he passed me again, even closer this time (I guess that's what people call a punishment pass?), and slowed down to shout more shit out the window, with his two mates helping him out. Unfortunately, this car passes me every day on the way to work. They always pass a little closer than I'd like. You start to remember the ones that do. I'm sure from now on they'll be doing it even worse, and deliberately, so I'm at even more risk. I'm actually considering stopping at that pick-up point (I think they stop there daily) and trying to apologize. Not because I mean it, but because I don't want to die. I'm not certain it will help - it's three bloky builder types who (stereotypically, I admit) aren't known for calm reasonable discussion. But I don't see what other option I have. No I don't have anything on camera and I don't currently own a camera. "Sorry about that, you didn't do anything wrong, I was just stressed out and overreacted, you didn't deserve it, etc." Not really true, but who cares if it keeps me alive? What would you all do in this situation?

Just a self made route that I had mostly ridden parts of before, mostly flat too by design. Weighed in at around 250 with my bag and bike. Got some bike socks to celebrate today :)

I'm mostly a runner but was dealing with some bad plantar fasciitis last year. My weight ballooned up so I decided I had to do something about it. I started swimming and cycling, but the pool here is only open in the summer so I was left with cycling as my main exercise. I got back into the gym too, lifting weights a couple times a week, and was doing a small amount of running (5k or less a week). Anyway, I got strong in the gym, and my cycling outings got longer. This was all a period from about October last year to May of this year. Around that time I had a doctor's appointment where they told me my BMI (27) was overweight, and then me and my GF went on a trip right after that and I still looked chubby in the pics. At that point I decided that cycling wasn't gonna cut it, I decided I had to get back to running no matter what, so I did. Luckily the plantar fasciiitis was much better after time off and I'm able to do 15-20km a week, which is pretty good for me. I got back in the pool too. But I put cycling on the shelf. Well, the pool is closed again, so I decided to do my favorite cycling route for the first time in 3 months. It's to a nearby town and back, next to a canal, 16km round trip. A couple of pretty gnarly hills too. It wasn't amazingly difficult, I'm in better shape than I was 3 months ago, but I was surprised to find that it certainly wasn't *easy*. I guess in my head since I didn't lose weight cycling, well, cycling must be easy or something. But I don't think that's true. I think I underestimated the benefits. I was remembering that on that trip in May me and my GF walked 90,000 steps in 2.5 days. And did some pretty serious hiking trails that were mountainous and even dangerous in some areas. And I handled that all very well. Looking back, I now attribute that to my cycling. There's no doubt I was in shape, albeit a bit on the chubby side. In short, I think I underestimated the benefits of cycling. Since I was hyper-focused on losing weight, well, I couldn't appreciate the other benefits that cycling has. And hey, I think you can lose weight cycling, too. But maybe running is more efficient in that regard - ie, you might have to do 2 hours of cycling to get the same benefits as 1 hour of running. Of course diet is important too, but that hasn't been the most important factor for me, I lost more weight running than cycling. But again, if I had cycled more I probably would have lost the same weight. Anyway, again, even though cycling wasn't the most efficient way for me to lose weight, I think I definitely underestimated the benefits. Today's workout was tough and felt nice. I'll certainly be adding more cycling back into my routine.
