I am a traditional biker and hear a lot of complaints about e-bikes from my biking friends. But I think we should be more welcoming and look on the bright side: - More people are getting into the sport especially older people and people with mobility issues. Even we traditional cyclists will potentially benefit when we eventually get older. Our cycling lives are getting extended. - More e-bike users mean more users of cycling infrastructure, which means more support for lanes, protection etc. - getting more casual people onto two wheels means they potentially become more aware drivers when they're on four wheels. - anyone on a bike is a bonus for the environment.

I was exploring a new trail this morn when I popped my back tire on a pothole and my unprepared ass had no tube, patch or pump. I keep that in a backpack and lately I've been leaving it behind on my rides. Bad idea. It was such a buzz kill since I was having a great ride in beautiful weather. As I was walking my bike on the trail headed for the nearest metro, a fellow cyclist stopped and asked me if I needed a tube. Not only that but he hooked me up with a CO2 canister, and I was able to replace it and get back to my ride! I thanked him but not enough, so hopefully he sees this and knows that his kindness saved my morning ride. Oh, and I promise to pay it forward.

“All the kit, still sh*t” etc. That is totally me. For road cycling and MTBing. I’m pretty useless at both! LOL! Slow road rider and scaredy cat MTBer. I stick to the easy trails and go down hills at a snail’s pace but I have lots of fun. My partner and I have no kids and are fortunate to have reasonably well paying jobs. We’re not big travellers or drinkers/party people so we have a little bit of spare cash and we like to spend it on bike stuff! Side note: My partner is A LOT better than me but always sticks by my side on the road/trails. Any other cyclists out there making a fool of themselves in their nice kit, on their flash bike? LOL! Edited to add: Thanks to everyone for your replies! I wasn’t expecting to get this many comments! It’s nice to know there are other people out there whose skill level does not match their bike! LOL! It’s a good confidence boost. I sometimes doubt myself. I just went out for a quick ride around my local (easy) trails and was complaining to my partner about all the rocks (while riding my full suspension MTB) and then we saw a guy riding a fully rigid gravel bike on the same trails!! LOL! So shameful but at least my butt was nice and comfy!

The first time I rode from a nearby city to home, it took me an hour and I practically walked most of the time (it's uphill the whole way). Now, about a month later, I did the same route and it took me half the time, and I barely stepped off the bike. Sure, I took breaks, but the fact that I didn't just walk the bike like I did last time just feels great. I also feel much less tired than before. It still isn't much, but I am getting better! Maybe next month I'll be even quicker.

Dabei habe ich zufällig rausgefunden, dass der verbaute Continental-Riemen lange vor Erreichen der Soll-Lebensdauer reißen kann, und daher die Räder damit von vielen Herstellern zurückgerufen (z.B. Ikea Sladda) oder auf Kosten des Hersteller (z.B. Canyon) auf Gates-Riemen umgebaut wurden. Es gab einen Art inoffiziellen Rückruf Mitte 2018. Das Fahrrad war zu dem Zeitpunkt unter zwei Jahre alt. Von meinem Händler (Zweirad Stadler...) habe ich damals keine Info bekommen. Vor sechs Wochen war ich nochmal dort, und hab im Werkstattbereich die Situation erklärt und gefragt, ob es dort auch einen Rückruf/Umbauaktion gab. Der Werkstattmitarbeiter hat im System nachgeschaut, ob meine Kontaktdaten noch drin sind (waren sie!) und meinte, dass sich jemand bei mir melden würde. Er hat auch gefragt, ob ein Umbau auf Kette für mich in Ordnung wäre, was ich verneint habe. Ich habe das Rad nun mal bewusst und genau wegen des Riemens gekauft, und bin mit dem Riemen (und dem Rest des Rads) bis auf das Riss-Risiko sehr zufrieden! Besitzer von Fahrrädern mit CBD 8mm sollen diese aus Sicherheitsgründen vorsichtshalber nicht mehr nutzen und ebenfalls einen Austausch durchführen. > >Es handelt sich hierbei ausdrücklich nicht um einen Rückruf, der von den Behörden angeordnet wurde. Die letztendliche Risikoeinschätzung für die einzelnen Modelle und die daraus resultierenden Maßnahmen liegt jedoch bei den Fahrradherstellern als Verantwortlichen für das Gesamtfahrrad. Jedenfalls hat sich (wenig überraschend) bisher niemand bei mir gemeldet. Daher meine Fragen: Wie würdet ihr jetzt vorgehen? In der Hoffnung auf Übernahme der Kosten durch Stadler (>>200€ für den Gates-Riemen, die Riemenscheiben, den Einbau, bei damaligem Fahrradpreis von \~600€) "Beweise sichern", dass sie die Kontaktdaten hatten, z.B. durch DSVGO-Brief des Todes? Eine Mail schreiben und ankündigen, dass man das Fahrrad für vier Wochen stehen lässt, bei Nicht-Antwort bis dahin aber davon ausgeht, dass kein Sicherheitsrisiko besteht? Danke euch für eure Hilfe!
