Hello, so this is quite embarrassing but, I'm struggling to learn how to ride a bike and I kind of need to know how. Basically, I'm 19, and I was never taught how to ride a bike. Recently, I've been very interested in motorcycles, and I'm hoping to ride one someday, but it's recommended that you know how to ride a bike first, plus, I've heard that some motorcycle training places don't allow you to train if you can't ride a bike most likely for safety reasons. Here are a few problems I'm having: \- I can ride for a while in a straight line, but then I lose balance. \- When I try to turn, I end up losing balance and put my foot down. \- My garden is very small, so I don't have much space to practice in, and I'm too embarrassed to go to a park to learn because of my age. Maybe I'm rushing over basic steps because I'm kind of desperate to learn, lol. Hopefully some of you experienced riders can help me out. I appreciate any answers, and thank you for reading! :) EDIT: thank you guys for all your help! I will watch the videos sent, and I'm going to a park this weekend to practice. Are lightweight wheels overrated?

Has anyone swapped to lighter wheels (aero heavy to aero light) and noticed any significant improvement in acceleration? I'm engineering student that ran the maths on accelerating rotational mass which showed the difference between 1.8kg wheels vs 1.3kg wheels to be neglibible.(0-40kph in 10 seconds), *0.35Nm vs 0.25Nm for just the wheels*. Even if my calculations are 3 or 4 times off, the difference is still negligable and there would be more benefit gained from tipping water out of your bottle. Which is really confusing, as the industry and various reviewers tout there is a significant difference between accelerating on a slightly lighter wheel set compared to a heavier one. How much of this would be a function of the ability of the human body to percieve small changes and how much of it would be error from the assumptions i made in my calculations? (uniform mass, steady acceleration, no drag).

Just a random observation. I recently sold my previous bike that came with R8000 11sp mechanical Ultegra. Life was good. I rode that bike about 10k miles over the last three years. Previous two bikes, a steel Serotta (w/5800 105) and an Al Endurace with R7000. I never felt any large improvement with R8000, but rather some mild nagging dissatisfaction with it. It was always noisier than previous iterations of 105 I had ridden, and a little fiddly - like the rear mech was in frequent need of slight adjustment, and the brifters were not as precise feeling. Now, I'm back on R7000 with hydro discs, back on steel as well, btw, and I'm in love. Beautiful, quiet, crisp, exacting shifts. Even the brifters are better (to me) in that it's much more positive of a feeling going between each click, like I know I got the next gear. AND I find the flatter lever profile better for grabbing lots of brake when I need it. It's just flatter where I'm grabbing, and wider as well. Anyway, R7000 mechanical is a special groupset - maybe one of the last best mass market mechanical groupsets and I hope Shimano keep making a mechanical version of 105. At least, maybe someday the Di2 105 will come down from its stratospheric price! Ride on!
