Just venting. Was riding to work this morning through a quiet neighborhood. Lots of the intersections on this street are 4 way stops, but a few are just two way, and the slightly more major street I was on has the no-stop right of way. I’m coming up to one of these intersections as a police car comes to a stop at one of the stop signs. I’ve got blinky lights, bright red jersey, and it isn’t dark out. No way he doesn’t see me. Well, I keep watching him and sure enough he takes off from the stop sign right as I’m about to enter the intersection. I throw on full brake to avoid the collision and yell, cop doesn’t so much as slow down. Few blocks later I see a different cop car parked, but that officer tells me he has no way of knowing what car was three blocks away moments ago and proceeds to say that people are maybe getting off the overnight shift so 🤷🏻‍♂️ and that one time he saw some other bike run a red light, so maybe I should check my “buddies.” Just disgraceful all around. Not naive enough to expect different, just pissed.

Hello! I've been cycling for 6 years, mostly on mountain bikes until recently. I've always preferred using platform pedals for safety reasons (since I use the bike for commuting through a highly busy area) and also for comfort, as my feet naturally point outward, and on weekends, I do endurance rides (100-200km). I did try using clipless pedals, but apart from experiencing significant foot pain, I didn't notice any performance difference. Today, I have several Strava achievements (KOMs and top 10), so I'm not a beginner cyclist. In the mountain biking community, I'm accepted without using clipless pedals. However, recently, I bought a road bike, and that's where things changed. Everyone looks down on me for not using clipless pedals, and whenever I talk to someone on the road, they insist I should get clipless pedals. I tried joining a peloton, and they told me they don't accept beginners. I attempted to explain my situation, but they basically brushed me off. How can I change this situation? I genuinely don't want to use clipless pedals. Is there a way to appear more professional while still using platforms? Currently, I wear regular sneakers for cycling. (Obs: translated using chat gpt, if the text is strange is his fault, i'm from Brazil)

I'm an ultramarathon runner. I don't really care about bikes BUT I think moving far from sun up to sun down is super fun, and I can't do that very often running (a 6 hour run is pretty hard on the body, for example) so I thought hm maybe I can get a gravel bike? Does cycling give that same amazing "wow I did this shit with my body" kind of feeling? Do you get a runner's high? (I'd be doing it exclusively on rural dirt roads in New Mexico)

My old helmet broke like a toy so I now looking for a new helmet, but I don't really want to break the bank, I know someone said to buy a cheap helmet if you got a cheap head. But $100 can expose me to some high-quality helmets in the market imo. I mostly care about good protection and then ventilation. Any advice?

While the shoe is arguably the most important component of a clip-in system, it’s the pedal that makes the biggest difference when it comes to optimising the best flat pedal system. Pretty stoked to complete my longest ride yet! Been riding about a week or so and this was my first milestone! Can confidently say that I enjoyed the ride! It was an early morning start, low traffic, and weather was extremely pleasant! I was able to make it up some elevation as well which was my biggest concern. Next time I’ll make sure to take some goggles or sunglasses to avoid getting bugs in my eyes! Next up will be 50km!
