This article gets to the heart of the matter, in a much more precise and neutral manner than all the newspaper reports I've read: https://clinicalnegligencebarrister.wordpress.com/2019/06/24/brushett-v-hazeldean-the-facts/ In short, it isn't as simple as "bloody pedestrian crossing the road and not looking". The real situation is, as you'd expect, a lot more nuanced. For example: > Mr H’s evidence included a voice memo that he had recorded on his mobile phone minutes after the accident in order to provide a more detailed account than that recorded by the police. His witness statement expanded upon his police statement. He described in Court that there was a ‘throng’ of pedestrians 5 or 6 deep crossing the road, and estimated that there were 50 people in this group. He described that he slowed his bicycle because he felt that it was unsafe to proceed with people still crossing. > Mr H said that he was overtaken by the Defendant, who was travelling at around 20mph and had sounded his airhorn. Mr H considered that the Defendant accelerated as he approached the crossing. He saw the Defendant collide with the Claimant who was crossing the road. He remained of the view that the Defendant was to blame. She didn't step off the pavement - she entered his lane from a pedestrian refuge in the centre of the road. Also important - *there are no pedestrian signals at the crossing she was using*. > There was more to this decision than the many of the newspaper articles conveyed. > Based on the judge’s finding that the Claimant was using her mobile phone, it was absolutely correct that she was found to have significantly contributed to the accident. However, **the Defendant himself had conceded that he had accelerated towards a crossing which wasn’t clear of people**.

Hi there! My name is Hidayat, 26 years old Male and I am a road cyclist. Last night while I was out just making my way to meet my group of friends for my ride, my heart rate started going really, really high at 210+ bpm. Warming up or having a workout at the time was not my intention at all. I was only aiming to roll slowly to the meeting point since i was early anyway. I have never had a heart rate that high even in my high intensity workouts. My heart rate usually maxes out at 190+. I had to take in deep breaths and pedal much slower to lower my heart rate at what I deem to be normal at 150 to 160bpm. Can someone kindly advise if this occurrence is normal or should I be worried and book a consultation with a doctor?

I bought my first road bike last July so I could commute the 13.3 miles (one way) to work and back as often as possible. Managed 2-3 days a week with young kids, that’s a win. In the process I’ve become addicted to cycling, and that means acquiring clothing I previously thought was ridiculous. I got all of my foul weather gear during my winter riding, and this spring/summer I’ve been piling on the miles when I can. Last three of four weeks I’ve gone 110-130 miles, and the one sub 100 week I had a 72 mile ride. Thought I’d try and replace my 18 year old mtn biking shorts with some proper road spandex and bought ‘the black bibs’ this week. Took my first ride in them yesterday, wow. I felt like I was cycling naked and loved it. I also felt like I was floating on my seat the cushion was so nice. It really made the experience so much nicer, I would urge you not to wait if you are just getting started!
