I got my first QOM!

I started riding around May 2020 to lose weight and improve my mental health during Covid. What started as a couple of 8 mile rides turned into 30+ mile rides about 4 times a week. Lost a ton of weight as hoped in the process and tonight I got my first QOM! I beat the original time by 2 seconds! Feels so good to be fit and healthy and able to push my body to the limit now.

\[I hope you will forgive my posting in English: please feel free to answer in German but I dont trust my grammar to write this properly in a foreign language\] &#x200B; I was riding on a TT bike outside Oranienburg north of Berlin yesterday lunchtime when a sportscar suddenly swerved in front of me and then stopped: the driver got out and started shouting at me that that I should be on the cycle lane. It was a white "Fahrrad frei" lane (one of those lanes made out of red stones, not asphalt) and very narrow with pedestrians on it). I come from quite a rough city and lived in London where there is a lot of aggression on the roads, so my first priority was to make sure he wasnt going to hit me or take out a knife. He was screaming that he had followed me for a long way and I was in the middle of the street (I really wasnt, just not right in the gutter) and why dont I use the cycle lane, pointing at the other side of the road where there was a dotted line for bikes (no lane!). I tried to explain "fahrrad frei" but he just kept cursing. When I went to take a photo of his licence plate he started saying he had filmed me too! &#x200B; Ive read the rules of the road carefully so I am pretty sure I was in the right here: there was no blue sign saying to use the cycle lane. I wonder whether I should have been more aggressive in asserting my rights. But I wanted advice from German cyclists how you would handle this kind of driver aggression. Like I said, where I come from, you need to be careful not to escalate and just glad they arent swinging punches! Ive never had an incident like this before, just the occasional horn beeping and buzzing. I want to give cycling a good name, so Im always careful to respect the rules and other users, especially pedestrians (hence i think its better to use road when there is a choice!). edit: thanks for all the comments everyone - feel much better now!

I noticed that every time a LBS touched my derailleurs (GRX 800), the drivetrain would make some undesirable noise during pedaling caused either by incorrect cable tension or limit screw adjustment. I was pretty fed up going from shop to shop trying to get a silent drivetrain that I knew was possible. So I learned how to do it myself following Shimano’s instructions to the letter. Sure enough, silent drivetrain. I wanted to see how bad the state of these LBSs was, so I ended up doing an experiment where I’d adjust things incorrectly and take the bike in for an adjustment. No kidding, not a single shop got it right. They gave me back a bike with LOUD chain rub on the FD, clicking from the rear cassette from incorrect cable tension, etc. The bike came back better than I dropped it off but far from dialed in perfectly. I can tell you that NONE of these shops are following the simple instructions provided by Shimano. So so wrong and disappointing. The lesson for me is: learn to do your own work if you care about getting the little things right and you want peace of mind.

Type 1 Diabetic Cyclists?

(Posting this in a few places to see if I can get some help!) Recently diagnosed with T1D after nearly dying in January. Male, mid 40's and had no clue. I have food mostly under control and sleep is getting better. My question is about exercise: I go SKY HIGH while out there. I know I should take more insulin but am nervous about going low. I have a Dexcom which has been giving *really really* inaccurate readings (saying I am going hypo when I am going super high) and it has been so so frustrating. The post exercise spike also goes through the roof. If there is anyone who can offer some pointers or tips, I'd love it. I'd be happy with an email but I'd also be happy to compensate your for your time as well if you wanted to do a Zoom / Skype call. Fairly avid cyclist here, still able to find time to ride about 100-150 miles per week and in pretty decent shape again. 6'1 around 150 lbs. I almost exclusively do solo rides of 1-2 hours over somewhat hilly terrain at relatively high intensity (average heart rate is 70-80% of max rate, average mph is 20+). I usually get out there, push hard, and go home. It has been a while since I have done a group ride or a paced ride of 50 miles or more. Really frustrated. Had my first and second round of tears this weekend for this first time since getting out of the hospital. From everything I read, it is just trial and error (and so said my primary who I just spoke with) but I'd like to know what works for you. Thanks for any help.

Allergikerbrudis zu Hilfe!

Servus aus dem Allgäu! **TL;DR:** Was macht ihr gegen Ausschlag/Allergie/Jucken wie sau in den Ellen- und Kniebeugen beim radfahren? Bin normal hier nur stiller Mitleser, bräuchte jetzt aber mal die Hilfe von den Allergikern unter euch. Nachdem die Sonne jetzt so schön scheint und alles blüht (hatschi!) geht wie immer die Allergiezeit los, bei mir sinds Gräser. Davon lass ich mich aber natürlich nicht davon abhalten meinen Hintern aufs Rad zu schwingen. Hab auch mittlerweile alles was so im Gesicht passiert (Augen, Nase, Rachen) dank Medis top im Griff, was aber immer so nach spätestens 20km anfängt sind vor allem die Kniebeugen, die diabolisch anfangen zu jucken und sobald man kratzt sich prima kleine rote Punkte bilden, die dann noch mehr jucken. Teufelskreis. Fenistil hilft nur bedingt, da das recht schnell einzieht aber kein Langzeitschutz bildet, nach 20km is mit oder ohne Fenistil Juckreiz angesagt. Gibts hier zufällig Leute, denen es auch so geht und die schon erfolgreich eine Lösung dafür gefunden haben? Wäre super dankbar! :)
