It was supposed to be a ride to a specialty store for arthritis cream and back. Instead, it was an on-road, off-road, closed-road, google-claims-there’s-a-road, made-a-wrong-turn, google-says-they-moved kind of ride, but it was still great. When I finally got to the (wrong branch) of the store they said, don’t backtrack again, since it’s your first time here we can give you a 50% discount! Then, as I was leaving and trying to pull out into traffic, I had a driver honk at me and yell… and she yelled about how she loved my jersey and please, go ahead. Finally, when I was almost home from a ride that was an hour longer than I had planned, as I stopped 2 miles from home because I was bonking, another woman handed me an Insomnia chocolate chip cookie, claiming she had an extra. Were these life-changing events? Do they compare with what’s happening in Ukraine, or a cure for cancer? Of course not. But three different people went at least a little out of their way to be nice to me today, and it completely changed how I felt about the world. It was a great day to be a cyclist.

Started biking 18 months ago as a way to lose weight, was challenging physically and in purchasing equipment. Every bike rated for my weight was stupid heavy and my options were very limited but wow did it become a real joy to cycle not only roads but also on bike trails. This hobby/lifestyle as I have come to find out can get extremely expensive especially when the family joined in but going out cycling with them has become an event we do nearly every weekend. I got us all Sena R1 Evo helmets so that we can chat when riding and we are starting to run out of space in the garage due to the various bikes we all have. I never imagined I would have multiple bikes depending on the plans for the day or that I would be able to do a 40+ mile ride in a single day. I even got a super tacky and sometimes very annoying bike trailer as we will now ride to get groceries and other items from the store instead of taking the car weather permitting. Actually the bike trailer isn't all that bad, just get a bunch of looks from others riding but on longer rides especially with the family I can haul a decent amount of stuff like drinks as well as spare parts because with four people riding it always seems like one of the bikes has an issue that needs taken care of. My legs and thighs are even bigger now than when I was super chunky but instead of them jiggling when slapped they stay firm and cause pain for the slapper because they are straight up muscle now. Was actually surprised how big they got like if I flex my quads you can easily see them rise substantially through my shorts or pants. Grateful for this community and as a long time lurker I figured it was a good time to say Hi and thank the people who post for their stories, tips and insights which helped me greatly when I was first starting out. Moin, da‘s gerade wieder etwas kälter und unangenehmer wird und der nächste Winter bestimmt auch kommt, merke ich, dass ich absolut nicht wetterfest ausgestattet bin. - Was sind geile Handschuhe zum Radfahren, die Wind und Kälte abhalten? - Was braucht man an den Beinen? Reicht eine normale Regenhose oder gibts da was Spezielles? - Was braucht man obenrum gegen Regen, was warm hält aber man nicht ölt? Alles auf Casual-Radfahren-Von-A-Nach-B-Kommen bezogen, kein Sport und möglichst günstig Ich glaube gute Ausstattung würde den Spaß am Radfahren nochmal deutlich steigern
