I broke my nose, bike, and a rib but wait...there's more!

Monday I was riding through town and as I approached an intersection where I had a green light. I observed a car to my left slowing to a stop at the red light. Or so I thought. As I entered the intersection the car took off on a collision course with me. I braked and turned hard left to try to go behind it but it was too late and I smashed into the right rear quarterpanel at about a 45 degree angle going close to 10 mph. The car, of course, kept going and left the scene. I ended up face down on the pavement about 10 feet from the bike. My sunglasses were broken, there was blood running down my face, and pretty much everything hurt. I laid there for a bit thinking about the choices I've made in life that brought me there and started cautiously moving one body part at a time to assess the damage. Since my limbs and spine seemed intact I sat up. Still alive, so that's good. Witnesses had called the police and EMS but by the time they arrived I had determined that my injuries weren't ambulance worthy and declined treatment and transport to save myself a few thousand dollars. All I could tell the police about the car was that it was white and hard, I guess some of the witnesses added to that somewhat. I called a friend with a truck and he collected me and the bike and took me to the ER where I work. My cow orkers gave me VIP treatment and after some x-rays and CTs (which will cost me a small fortune) it was determined that I had broken my nose and one rib and lost a lot of skin. Definitely could have been worse. On Tuesday I took the bike to the shop. The front wheel, fork, and possibly the frame were bent. It would cost more to repair than I paid for it so I now have some road bike parts for sale if you need any. On Wednesday I decided that I needed to get back on the horse and ride again so I set out on my backup bicycle. We all have a backup bicycle, right? A mile from home I rode through a puddle and the wheels came out from under me. Monday's injuries were all on the left, Wednesday's are on the right. Nothing new broken but if I keep this up I'm going to run out of skin. I think I'll take the rest of the week off and think about things for a bit. I've ridden a couple of thousand miles since my last significant fall but I'm definitely on a streak right now. TLDR: I cant stay upright this week and the human body has a finite amount of skin. RIP Frankenbike, it was good to know you.

A little over a month ago I read Atomic Habits by James Clear. I have been wanting to get fitter and slimmer so I decided to start a habit of my own: riding. One of the things he says is to start small, but keep building. Where I live, I have a two mile loop in my HOA with bike lanes. Most days, I don't ever need to stop. The first week I did one loop, on the 2nd week I rode two loops. I kept building up week by week and now I'm doing 5 loops. That's where I plan to keep it, 5 loops, ten miles. Its taking me about 45 minutes. Over time, I expect that number to come down, but I'm in no hurry. Every morning I jokingly tell myself that speed doesn't matter, just ride all 5 loops. I haven't regularly cycled in a while. I used to ride 100-120 miles each week. I used to commute about 10 miles each day and do group rides on Saturdays and sometimes Sundays. I wouldn't mind getting fast enough to start going on group rides again.

Hey ihr alle, Ich plane ende Juli ca. 220km von A nach B am Rhein entlang zu radeln. Das ist meine erste so große Tour und plane diese in 2 Tagen zu bezwingen. (Pro Tag um die 100km) Bisher habe ich nur 1-Tages-Touren von maximal 120km gemacht und habe mit mehrtägigen keine Erfahrung. Was die Sportlichkeit angeht sollten die 120km täglich kein Problem sein, vorallem da ich nicht vorhabe irgendwelche Weltrekorde zu brechen. Was gibt es so an Equipment, welches ich für so eine Tour dabei haben sollte. Und wichtiger: Wie nehme ich dieses mit? Wie transportiere ich Dinge wie Hygieneartikel, Shirts und co. mit? Im Moment habe ich: 1. Ersatzschlauch 2. Trinkflaschenhalter 3. Fahrradklamotten (Kurze Hose, sowie Trikot mit Rückentaschen) 4.
