Feeling proud of myself and didn't have anyone to tell so I thought I'd share this here. I've recently been working on my health lately and looking for new cardio outlets that aren't running 4 miles 3 days a week. I've lost almost 80 pounds over the last year but I am far from in shape. Got my old mountain bike from storage and decided to go to my local trail and see how far I could go. I ended up doing 40 miles. Wayy further than I thought I could go. Especially after I haven't been on a bike in over 10 years and with no training or practice. I felt really good about it about 20 miles in but the last 8 or so miles were absolutely horrible. I was out of water, feet were numb and my legs were screaming in pain. Saddle pain is real I was uncomfortable. My pace dropped to around 9mph and I was struggling to turn the pedals. I was out by myself and had no option of quiting. But I pushed through and made it back somehow. Took me almost exactly 4 hours stops included. Thinking about it now it was probably foolish. But damn it I believed in myself and actually did it. If I do it again in the future I'll need to bring more than 1 bottle of water and some food to keep my energy up for the back half. Anyways not sure if anyone would read this, but thought I'd share anways.

Just a little rant from me to you. I was just cycling back from a bicycle shop after a repair and almost got ran over when crossing a street. Despite a car stopping to let me cross, some degenerate driver decided to overtake that car and almost hit me, due to me being in the middle of the road when they went for the overtake. It's appalling how some idiots are willing to play with lives to save them a few seconds. So, a P.S.A to new cyclists like me: always assume every driver is a shitty one when cycling. Because all it takes is for you to overestimate the ability of one driver for it be lights out.

Maybe I should say motorists that are also cyclists? I was driving a couple days ago and saw a cyclist. Being one myself, I passed in a very cautious and reasonable manner, giving probably a little more space than needed. I got caught at a light and the cyclist came up to me and thanked me for the way I passed him. I let him know I ride too and know what it’s like to deal with erratic and crazy motorists. It’s nice to hear you’re doing something right, not speaking for myself in this case because I knew I was doing the right thing. Maybe more of us should thank motorists when they aren’t a-holes passing us like they’re trying to race us to encourage them? Just a thought.
