While out on ride today, I went into a 7-11 with my bike. I have an expensive bike. I don’t own a lock. Even if I did, the outside of the store is full of junkies. The clerk yelled at me. I was calmly like I can’t lock my bike out there, and gestured to the junkies. He was like “don’t ever come here with a bike again, I don’t care why”. Finally I was like fuck it, keep the drink. Next store didn’t care at all. Why the hate?

I've been wrenching on my own bikes for a while, and it's always fun and very satisfying. Recently on our local Buy Nothing group, someone posted a good quality 20" mtb that they said could use a tune up. We didn't need the bike, but in the spirit of Buy Nothing I offered to tune it up for whoever did want it. The drivetrain was thick with gunk, but still solid underneath. The grip shift wasn't working, but I replaced the rusted cable and housing with some old spares I had and it worked like new. I replaced a few bolts, a brake cable, and put some shiny blue crimps on the cables. Then I dropped it off, and I got to see the happiest 8 year-old tearing around on it. So much good feels. My dudes, if you know how to work on bikes, offer to fix one up for a kid. It helped that this was a real bike with Shimano components to begin with instead of a BSO, but damn that felt good.

Usually my top distance would max out at 60-70 miles but today after I missed my Sunday group ride, decided that such day cannot go to waste and so I went to test myself. Legs were fine although knees gave up halfway, I’m sure it has to do with bike fit since after tweaking cleats mid away it disappeared. Nevertheless I’ll be doing bikefit. Average speed was 22km/h which is low but due to shitty bike lanes I’m still satisfied. Next summer the goal is 300km.

Recently moved from the midwest to the bay area, my wife is having trouble with the hills out here. We are probably average fitness for being mid-40's, most of our rides are 20-30miles with 1000ft ascent or less. Trying to get better is difficult because she *really* struggles with anything sustained over about 7% grade, which most of the local routes with any elevation will have lots of, and we only get out 1x per week. She's small and not very powerful; when we used to ride indoors she would average around 80-90watts over 15-20miles, probably a bit less now. I'm thinking about upgrading her bike to try to equalize our climbing ability so she can at least make it up some of the moderate grades nearby. We already have pretty nice bikes (Specialized Roubaix Expert) so the only real opportunities are lighter wheels or bigger gears. Any feedback on whether gears or wheels will have a bigger impact on climbing? Edit, to spell it out more clearly: We aren’t training for the TDF here, we’re trying to maintain our fitness, explore our area, and spend more time outdoors. There comes a point where pushing harder up a hill just isn’t fun, and stopping to rest and starting from a stop on a 9% grade with cars coming is just plain dangerous. As many people have commented, my wife’s power is on the low end. But her V02 max is pretty high for her age. Shorter gearing WILL make climbing easier, she’ll just have to spin it out slower and longer, but that’s what she’s good at. Since her bike came with relatively tall gearing by modern standards, and she only needs a small boost to get to the top of most of the hills nearby without stopping, I think ~15% more gearing advantage might be all she needs to make it so she can ride the nearby hills without having to stop and start in a dangerous manner.

OK can anyone recommend a "lightweight" small bike lock for my road bike for when I do longer rides? Now I know what you're going to say, I'm asking for my bike to get stolen and I'd agree if it where actually to be used as a lock but this isn't, its a deterrent for unprepared opportunists. I'm looking for a small lock that will sit in my saddle bag so when stop in a shop to resupply water/snacks my bike isn't just sitting there ready to be wheeled away. Yes, a pair of snips will defeat the lock but I plan to maintain line of sight but obviously I can't run very fast in clipless shoes so I want to slow down the general idiots. I also can't carry my usual D lock and thick cable as it will be very annoying over longer distances. Any recommendations?

Online finde ich einige Anleitungen für die Wartung der Achsen bei SPD-Klickpedalen, meine haben jedoch die "Kompaktachse" und ich kann sie nicht aufschrauben. Auch im [Benutzerhandbuch zu den Pedalen](https://manualzz.com/doc/53903063/shimano-pd-eh500-pedal--spd--benutzerhandbuch) findet sich kein Hinweis. Fällt das unter die Kategorie "wer billig kauft, kauft zweimal" und ich nehme nächstes Mal welche mit aufschraubbaren Achsen?
