First race! Couldn’t be happier!

I don’t have many people to celebrate with because nobody gets the hype, so just wanted to share with you guys! I am 26F who started cycling this year on April. I had a road bike which was super old, terrible condition and wayyy too big for me. Of course at the beginning I had not realized those things 😅 So on April I could cycle 20km/h on average speed, and after 20km I was super tired. Yesterday (21st August) I participated in my first race (50km)!!!! I finished 4th in my age group with the average speed around 33km/h!!!! The official time is 1:31:10! After finish, I just started crying out of the excitement!!! It was such a nice moment!!! Wow! It was such a great race!

Endlich einen Fahrradplatz im ICE bekommen :) 13 Stunden ...

Gerade folgendes erlebt: Nachdem ich vor Monaten einen der ultrararen Fahrradstellplätze im ICE von Göttingen nach München ergattert hatte und gestern abend nach 60 Minuten verspäteter Abfahrt endlich mitsamt Fahrrad in diesem saß, wähnte ich mich freudig, ausnahmsweise mal eine komfortable Reise mit Rad im Gepäck anzutreten. Keine ewig lange Flixbus-Tortur! Leider hatte der ICE bereits am nächsten Bahnhof, in Kassel, einen Defekt und konnte nicht weiterfahren. Was tun? Klar, kein Problem um 19 Uhr, einfach in den nächsten ICE einsteigen. Den nächsten ICE mit freien Fahrradstellplätzen. Da dieses Phänomen bekanntermaßen ungefähr so oft auftritt wie ein Lottogewinn während einer Sonnenfinsternis an einem Osterfest das auf den 29. Februar fällt, gab's erst mal ein Hotel spendiert und nachdem ein Anruf im Infocenter wenig überraschend bestätigte, dass es auch am nächsten Tag keine ICE mit freien Stellplätzen gibt, hab ich immerhin am Telefon (30 Minuten Warteschleife) noch eine 7-stündige Fahrt um 05:40 Uhr morgens mit Umstieg von Regionalbahn in Eurocity bekommen. Dieser Eurocity verfügt übrigens über etwas rustikale, aber durchaus geräumige Fahrradräume, die bei der Online-Buchung scheinbar nicht als verfügbar angezeigt werden. Danke fürs Lesen meiner kleinen Tirade, wirklich aufgeregt hab ich mich zwar nicht aber das ist auf jeden Fall noch etwas, was man bei der Fahrradmitnahme im ICE bedenken sollte. Lieber den nächsten Tag freihalten, denn wenn was schiefgeht, dann steht man erst mal da mit seinem Rad!

I was biking on a loop that goes around a small river near me. I was approaching a red light where I make a left to continue the loop. There were few to no cars around. As I was getting closer to the intersection, I moved into the center of the road to wait at the light to make my left. Suddenly, an SUV was on my tail and proceeded to speed past me so it was first at the light. It was an unnecessarily aggressive move but sometimes cars act that way and I didn't think much of it. The driver then craned her head out of her window and started asking me what I thought I was doing being in the middle of the road and didn't I know I had to be on the side? It was hot and I was a little out of it and all I managed was: "I'm making a left." She suddenly looked confused and embarrassed and weirdly friendly and said: "Oh, ya know, I guess I don't actually know what the rules are." I got the sense she was trying to use this opportunity to flirt with me. The light turned green. She started asking me what the rules of the road were. I said: "Green light" and pointed ahead. She got even more flustered and by now cars were starting to back up at the intersection. She told me I could go ahead of her... I was on a bike, she was in a car, the light was green, and she was ahead of me. I said: "No, please, you go." She finally did. Strange lady.
