Since making a point to cycle more this year, I've found it's changed how I drive. I'm not just talking about being more aware of people cycling when I drive, but how I actively manage other road users. I live in a development on top of a hill and the entrance to it is sketchy. You crest the hill, the road curves then you crest a second hill. The entrance is on the curve between the two hills. While the speed limit is 35mph, people regularly go 50-60. That means when you exit you just keep your fingers crossed that no one flys over the hill and when making a left into the devopment, you have to worry about people cresting the hill behind you and not seeing you stopped on the curve waiting for an opening until it's too late. Near misses were constant. After nearly being rear ended twice in as many days, I started considering how to make this safer and it occurred to me: Control the lane. A car stuck behind you is a car that sees you. On the half mile stretch before my turn, I've started driving 5-10mph under the speed limit, which causes cars to back up behind me. By the time I get to my turn, I usually have at least a half dozen cars stacked up behind me, putting tons of steel between me and anyone coming over the hill. Because they're already on my bumper, they always see me signal and slow down. No close calls in over a month.

A little about my cycling journey...I'm a 35 year old, that started his biking journey at 300lb and way out of shape. I bought a generic Giant hybrid last year, solely to get more exercise and shed the pounds. I put a good number of miles on it commuting to work a few days a week and taking my kids on rides to parks. I think I did close to 1000 miles last year. Not a ton for this community I know, but hey my commute's only 5 miles and the city downtown area is about 10-12 miles each way, so for me a *long* ride is 20-25 miles. This spring I was looking at a new pump at my LBS and spotted an old Trek gravel bike for only $400. It's about 10 years old, and I mostly wanted it to try out drop bars and to see if I'd use it and like it enough to drop $xxxx on a "real" road or gravel bike later. So far, I've loved it. I bike to work *every* day now, and it's *so much* more fun to ride than my hybrid. I'm even down to 265 lbs now, and it's almost entirely due to biking 5-6 days a week! This morning, I woke up and the weather was perfect. I'm feeling good (aside from eating too much pizza the night before) and I hadn't seen my grandparents in a while so I decided to bike out to their place in the country. Get back on track with the diet and exercise in a big way kind of thing! It's just under 30 miles each way so I figured, why not find a route that can extend it just a bit and go for a 100k? So I load up my backpack with some basic supplies, water, granola bars, repair tools just in case. I'm all set. The first 25 miles is brilliant. We have this excellent "rails to trails" system here where it's a packed gravel trail through the country side, trees lining both sides offering amazing shady rides. [Quick picture](https://i.imgur.com/QD908Si.png). I ride sections of this all the time, it's really great! So I get to my grandparents house totally fine, felt great. There's one good sized hill leading up to their house that took a lot of effort but didn't stop me. Had a rest, a drink, a snack. Then I left to come back and that's where the *fun* began. See, what I hadn't thought about was some of the roads I'd picked to ride back on I've never actually been on. At 75km, I found myself at the bottom of a very steep (for me) hill. My normal commute has one hill on it and for me, it's pretty steep, all of 3%. And only like 1/4 mile. Yeah, I know, but my city is *flat*. I can power up that no problem. This hill I've suddenly discovered it worse, 5% and 1/2 a mile. But I managed to push through. It's a quiet country road, so I do a little switch back riding through the worst parts, and when I get to the top it immediately turns into a nice downhill that gave me a good chance to cool off. After this I go another few miles on a busy highway I've been on a few times. I've noticed over the last summers of commuting that in a car, most roads just seem totally flat. On a bike, you start to notice and hate every little incline. That's when I realize that this road is just never ending rollers, up and down, up and down, for miles at a time. It was just completely energy sucking and fatiguing since at this point, the clouds were burned off, it's now 3pm, and 80+. Fortunately it's not as humid as it normally gets here in August, so that saved me....just in the time for my last 15km. For the last 15km, I once again turn away from roads I know to extend my route by voyaging into the unknown. I'm tired and my neck here is starting to get sore, but still feeling like I can coast to the end and be good. Come around a bend, and the road just goes up, up, and up, with a long, gentle turn so I can't even see the end. [Google map image since I was too tired to actually stop](https://i.imgur.com/8tCdutH.png). I brace myself, okay I can do this, it's gotta be the last bit before the home stretch. I'm pedaling mostly head down now, just focusing on pushing through. I glance up and there's another cyclist bombing the hill on his side of the road. I'm exhausted, but give a little wave and he just shouts over at me, *"It gets easier!"* Whew, so glad the road levels out after this turn.... And nope, I can see another 1/4 mile up the road, and it's just as steep, and leads into another turn. Since I've been home, I've looked this hill up and it's a disgusting 9%, which is just insane for me at this point. I can only think that he must have meant around this next bend, *it gets easier...* And no, my friend, this hill did not get easier at all. It was over a mile at 8-9%. There was no shade, my water ran out at the bottom of the hill, and after the third bend revealing yet more hill and another bend...I was just done, mentally defeated, and that's where my legs gave out as a result. Hung my head in shame and walked the last half mile of that hill. Maybe he meant if I keep doing this the whole cycling thing gets easier, who knows! [Got to the top finally and got this quick picture while I caught my breath](https://i.imgur.com/A1DirSr.jpg) All the way down there you can see where I started. From here it was finally mostly coasting. Some more short rollers and a huge, -12% downhill. I tried to keep my speed coming down that road under 20mph as I don't know that road at all and it was really twisty back and forth. Was very worried about my brakes giving out as I just have rim brakes and they're already pretty worn and slow to respond...but, made it safely with only one *oh shit* moment when the road got suddenly crappy with lots of pot holes and sandy gravel. Anyway, thank you for reading my adventure. The lesson learned here is: if you're going for a personal longest ride, do it on roads you know, or drive it first to take a peek. Or at the *very* least, look it up on google street view. If I'd done this exact route in reverse, it would have been amazing! Long, hard hills in the cool morning followed by a mostly down hill leisure ride down pleasantly calm, shady trails. It was still amazing, but so much more tortuous doing it the way I did it...but still I managed to do it! Habe vor ein paar Tagen das hier gepostet: https://old.reddit.com/r/Fahrrad/comments/wmeni3/2h_vor_radtour_wurde_mir_mein_fahrrad_gestohlen/ Nun habe ich es tatsächlich auf ebayKleinanzeigen gefunden. Der Polizei habe ich das auch gemeldet. Habe dann gefragt, ob wir gemeinsam hinfahren können, nachdem ich den Typen angefragt habe. Die meinten dann, dass es nicht so einfach ist. Erst versuchen die den Klarnamen usw. über deren Onlinearbeit herauszufinden und danach können die einen Durchsuchungsbefehl holen. Das ganze dauert ca. 1 Woche. Was das ganze noch erschwert, ist, dass ich die Rahmennummer nicht mehr finde. Habe natürlich über einen Zweitaccount angefragt. Der Typ hat sofort geantwortet und das Rad reserviert. Die Adresse will er mir durchgeben. Falls ich eine echte Adresse bekomme, werde ich die der Polizei durchgeben. Wahrscheinlich wollen die sich aber irgendwo draußen treffen. Ich weiß nicht, was ich machen soll. Falls das Bike an jemand anderen verkauft wird, dann ist es weg. Selbst wenn die Polizei dann die Wohnung durchsucht, wird der Dieb wohl kaum die Daten des Käufers notiert haben. In seinem Profil sind übrigens mehrere Räder, aber auch Kleinzeugs für den Versand. Zurück klauen, während eines vermeintlichen Kaufes, könnte vllt. in die Hose gehen, besonders wenn er den Braten riecht. Auch will ich am liebsten, dass der Typ bestraft wird und ein Fahrraddieb weniger unterwegs ist. ******************************************************Update (auch als Kommentar): Ich habe die Rahmennummer vom Händler bekommen. Die Polizei hat das mit in die Anzeige aufgenommen und das Bike zur Fahndung ausgeschrieben. Die haben mir aber auch gesagt, dass die nicht viel machen können, weil kein Klarname etc. vorhanden ist. Die Polizei selber meldet sich nicht auf die Anzeige. Wenn ich einen Termin ausmache, soll ich vorher 110 anrufen und denen die Situation schildern. Die würden dann mitkommen. Irgendwie traue ich der Sache nicht so ganz. Werde auf jeden Fall nicht alleine hin fahren.

Hi Everyone .. I currently weigh 320 pounds and just committed to doing a triathlon with my brother in law next september. I'm looking at bicycles and am noticing that a lot of them are at 275 weight limit. Will it be a bad decision to try and cycle at 320 or as long as I'm not doing any sweet jumps, I'll be ok? &amp;#x200B; I did a cycling stint back in 2017 and was roughly 300\~ pounds and was on a carbon bike. I know that tires can make a huge difference, but what about rims? Wer sich ein genaues Bild über die Situation machen möchte: die lokale Presse berichtet regelmäßig ([1](https://www.fr.de/frankfurt/frankfurt-draengeln-und-hupen-auf-der-schlossstrasse-90097618.html), [2](https://www.faz.net/aktuell/rhein-main/frankfurt/banner-erinnern-an-vorfahrt-fuer-radler-17670887.html), [3](https://www.faz.net/aktuell/rhein-main/radler-fuehlen-sich-in-der-grossstadt-an-den-rand-gedraengt-17400827.html), [4](https://www.fr.de/frankfurt/frankfurt-dichtes-ueberholen-auf-der-schlossstrasse-90803199.html), [5](https://www.fnp.de/frankfurt/pinsel-und-farbe-muessen-es-richten-90847051.html)). Fakt ist: In dieser Straße ist es nun verboten, Fahrradfahrende zu überholen. Darauf wird mit zahlreichen Verkehrsschildern, Piktogrammen auf der Fahrbahn sowie vier permanent installierten Bauzaun-großen Hinweistafeln (zu sehen in [Artikel 2](https://www.faz.net/aktuell/rhein-main/frankfurt/banner-erinnern-an-vorfahrt-fuer-radler-17670887.html)) hingewiesen. Fahrradfahrende werden dazu aufgefordert, in der Mitte der Fahrbahn und nicht in der Dooringzone zu fahren. Entsprechend bin ich heute mittig auf der Fahrbahn nach Hause geradelt. Nicht besonders schnell, da das Bikesharing-Fahrrad nunmal kein Rennrad ist und nicht mehr hergibt – aber auch nicht besonders langsam. Von hinten hat sich dann ein Autofahrer (soll keine Rolle spielen, aber um die Klischeeschublade zu füllen: männlicher Rentner im BMW-SUV) genähert, der mich so knapp überholt hat, dass er mich gerempelt hat und im Zuge dessen sein rechter Außenspiegel abgefallen ist. Er ist ausgestiegen, hatte ein sehr einschüchterndes Auftreten und hat mir vorgeworfen, rücksichtslos zu sein. Ich stand in der Situation sehr neben mir und habe am ganzen Körper gezittert. Weil dann die Autos weiter hinten gehupt haben, ist er um die Ecke an die Seite rangefahren. Da eine sachliche Auseinandersetzung ohnehin nicht möglich war, waren wir sehr schnell so verblieben, dass wir unserer Wege gehen – ich dachte in der Situation, dass der Schaden auf seiner Seite ja ohnehin größer sei. Mir und dem Leihfahrrad ist nichts weiter passiert. Eine Passantin habe ich gebeten kurz stehen zu bleiben, um ggf. als Zeugin zur Verfügung zu stehen. Es hat sich dann ein anderer Passant als Zeuge angeboten und mir seinen Namen und Handynummer mitgeteilt. Ich wollte eigentlich nach Hause, habe dann aber mit meinem Partner telefoniert, der mich darin bestärkt hat, zur Polizei zu gehen. An der Polizeiwache wollte man mich noch an der Klingel abweisen, Wortlaut (da niemand zu Schaden gekommen ist) „dann ist doch alles wunderbar!“. Ich musste insistieren, das weiterzuverfolgen. Nachfolgend wurde mir von den Polizisten nahegelegt, eine Ordnungswidrigkeit (wegen zu geringen Abstands beim Überholen, 35€) anzuzeigen und keine Strafanzeige wegen gefährlichen Eingriffs in den Straßenverkehr. Bei letzterem müsse ich wohl eindeutig wissen, dass der Autofahrer die feste Intention hatte, mich anzufahren. Das fällt mir aber schwer zu beurteilen. Für mich ist ganz klar, dass der Autofahrer *in Kauf genommen* hat, mich anzufahren (es wäre links neben dem Auto noch Platz gewesen), aber es fällt mir schwer, sicher zu sein, dass er die eindeutige Intention hatte, mich anzufahren. Beweisen könnte ich es wohl kaum. Wie würdet ihr mit dieser Situation umgehen? Habt ihr Ratschläge? Unabhängig von der Anzeige werde ich auch das Verkehrsdezernat und den Ortsbeirat kontaktieren, da ich weiß, dass so eine Situation dort wirklich nicht zum ersten Mal vorkommt und ich hoffe, dass die bauliche Gestaltung bald geändert wird.

Hi zusammen, ich geb's zu: Ich bin paranoid. Das Fahrrad wird immer mit zwei Schlößern gesichert, auf dem Smartphone sind Bilder sowie ein Eigentums-Nachweis inkl. Rahmennummer als Notiz. Außerdem habe ich drei Airtags an verschiedenen Stellen am/im Rad verbaut und werde zusätzlich -sobald im Herbst verfügbar- das GPS-Modul von Bosch nachrüsten. Mir geht es um den theoretischen Fall eines Fahrrad-Diebstahls, bei dem der Dieb mindestens einen verbauten Tracker nicht (schnell genug) entfernen konnte und mir eine Position im Inland angezeigt wird. Hierfür würde ich gerne mal analog /r/UnethicalLifeProTips/ die möglichen "unethischen Tipps" sammeln, um das Eigentum zurückzuerlangen - im besten Falle möglichst legal. Ich selbst konnte mal tagelang mein geklautes iPhone in einem Mehrfamilienhaus orten, war der Polizei allerdings scheißegal. Doch auch hier in den Beiträgen liest man immer wieder, dass die Polizei selbst bei Einfamilienhäusern oder beim Auftauchen in eBay-Kleinanzeigen ([hier mal ein tagesaktueller Fall](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fahrrad/comments/wvjo7o/habe_mein_geklautes_fahrrad_auf_ebaykleinanzeigen/)) nicht immer kooperativ zu sein scheint - vermutlich weil der angezeigte Standort erstmal als "Verdacht" gilt. Blöderweise ist das ein Spiel auf Zeit, dass man offenbar mit einer ordnungsgemäßen Meldung nicht gewinnen kann. Wobei ich mir auch sicher bin, dass die persönliche Einsatzbereitschaft bei Fahrraddiebstählen auch unterschiedlich stark ausgeprägt ist. Sicherlich muss man je nach Fundort unterschiedlich kreativ sein, aber vielleicht habt ihr ja selber auch schonmal Erfahrungen gesammelt oder Ansätze, wie man die Kollegen in Blau –die ja sicherlich an einer Aufklärung interessiert sind, wenn ihnen nicht die Hände gebunden wären– einbeziehen kann? Mein Vorgehen wäre vermutlich, erstmal weitere Informationen sammeln. Ermittelter Standort ist weit entfernt: * eBay-Kleinanzeigen durchsuchen, bei Fund Kaufinteresse signalisieren und parallel Polizei informieren Ermittelter Standort in der Nähe, z.B. selbe Stadt: * Direkt hinfahren und die Gegend auskundschaften, je nach Lage unterschiedlich vorgehen: * **Mehrfamilienhaus**: Zugang zum Haus verschaffen, z.B. Klingeln und der Person je nach Vertrauenswürdigkeit ggf. die Situation erklären oder sich etwas ausdenken. Wenn einer der Airtags noch aktiv ist, versuchen diesen innerhalb des Hauses zu orten (Kellerräume, Hof und Stockwerke abklappern). * **Einfamilienhaus**: Hier bin ich nicht besonders kreativ, wie man eine direkte Konfrontation mit dem mutmaßlichen Fahrraddieb vermeiden kann. Wird vermutlich aber auch seltener vorkommen, dass Fahrraddiebe in EFH leben. * **Lagerhalle**: Hier wäre ich vorsichtiger, da hier ggf. eher ein größeres Ding läuft. * **Fahrrad steht an der Straße bzw. öffentlich:** Wenn das Fahrrad irgendwo sichtbar steht -&gt; Neues Schloss dran, Polizei rufen und in der Nähe warten. Ist man nun bzgl. Standort schlauer: Reicht das für einen Durchsuchungsbeschluss? Kriegt man das beschleunigt? Ich vermute "Gefahr in Verzug" spielt keine Rolle, wobei geklaute Fahrräder ja vermutlich schnell umgeschlagen werden. Alle meine Ideen haben mit Surströmming und einem Anruf, dass es aus dem Kellerraum komisch riechen würde, zu tun - aber, das ist vermutlich keine gute Idee.

I used to climb decent uphills with my mountain bike for a few months (had some rides with 1000+ elev gain) then I switched to the road bike and it’s super hard for me to climb, even at the easiest gear obviously, my legs just feel DEAD very quick. Moin, ich hatte vor ner Woche schon mal eine ähnliche Frage gestellt. Aber zu einem anderen Rahmen. Ich habe jetzt durch Zufall einen gebrauchten Canyon Inflite 5 Rahmen gefunden. Der gefällt mir wirklich sehr gut und alles ist so wie ich es mir vorstelle. Allerdings ist der Rahmen ne XS. Das System von Canyon rechnet mir mit meinen 174cm und 78cm Innenbeinlänge eine XS aus. Ich bin das Rad dann vorhin mal kurz Probe gefahren und empfand meine Haltung als sehr vorgebeugt und sportlich. Zu stark gestreckt empfand ich es nicht. Das gebeugte gefällt mir sehr gut und war auch mein Ziel, aber bisher bin ich nur Gravel gefahren, bei dem man natürlich teilweise eher aufrecht sitzt. Muss das so und ich brauche einfach meine Zeit um mich daran zu gewöhnen? Die maximale Höhe des Sattels reicht locker aus. Von der Seite der Beinlänge aus passt es also schonmal. Die Werte meiner bisherigen Rahmen habe ich verglichen. Allerdings ist das nur begrenzt möglich, da das eine Gravel und das andere Cyclocross ist. Finde ich. Daher richte ich mich mal wieder an euch und würde gerne eure Meinung/ ggf. eigene Erfahrung hören.
