Ich bin selbst Radfahrer und hab den Eindruck, dass der Sub hier voll ist mit Aggros, à la „scheiss Autofahrer“ und „welche Klingel ist so laut, dass ich doofe Fußgänger mal so richtig belehren kann?“. Overtook a car whilst cycling

First post in this sub, long time lurker! Recently finished work and went for my commute home, often times I’ll walk my bike to a long stretch of road where I can actually cycle safely on road. Managed to get my way on the road safely like normal and got most of the way home (small village with lots of twists and turns but still 30mph speed limit). Got stuck behind a car that was going really slow, I assumed they were looking for a house. Waited until it was safe to do so and overtook them, managed to get a look at them (young lad: maybe mid 20s and young female of a similar age in the passenger seat) and made eye contact so they were aware of my presence, also made sure that there was a very large amount of space between me and the car before merging back into my previous lane. I continue cycling for a bit and the guy sped past me (way over the speed limit) screaming profanities about “mugging him off”. Rang my bell and put my thumb up. The lad sped round the corner we were coming up on and got beeped at by some other driver. Looked on my iwatch (as it was on exercise mode) when I got home, the speed I was overtaking him was roughly 17mph and the speed I was following him at was around 8-9mph). So he was definitely at crawling pace, especially for me to make room for two cars between us before merging in. As far as I’m concerned I’ve done nothing wrong, was in the highest gear possible and peddling as slow as I could just to make space for an emergency break between me and the driver. What do you guys think?

Before Covid-19 I didn’t know this since I began using the bike that I had because of the amount of free time I suddenly got! Fast forward till today, there’s one thing in particular that bothers me: why do car drivers react so heavily against cyclists? Even when taking a friendly approach, swearing and aggressiveness kick in with zero effort. What do you think about this? Does this happen to you? I really understand how it feels now, haha. Didn't eat as much as I should've and completely crashed on a short ride. There was nothing to sit on so I just dropped the bike in a ditch next to the road and then nearly fainted on the grass. I nearly vomitted my guts out. Haven't felt this bad in a long time, haha. Remember to eat a lot if you are a beginner like me! What was quite disappointing is that no one stopped. I was just laying in a ditch (i probably looked dead at some point) and all the cars that drove by me didn't bother checking on me. I mean, I was fine, and I'm glad that I saved myself the embarrassment, but I still wish someone had cared.

After the 800km bike tour…

This is basically what I went through during the 10 days. First day was 80km flat, sort of an warm up for us. I however had a heat stroke, and after resting over an hour during lunch I felt better, what was left was aching butt pain. Second day was 115km flat, and it rained heavily in the morning, also our leading rider went the wrong way and turned the trip into 130km flat. I suffered some backbone pain and butt pain, however I was relieved after applying some muscle/joint spray on my back. Third day we went through 140km flat with the temperature being 33 degrees for the whole day with no coverage and high humidity and not to mention, cycling against the wind. I had a heat stroke and had to lay down for 40km in the afternoon from 14:00-16:30. However I completed the rest of the trip when the heat was finally gone. Forth day was a breeze. 130km flat with some very small humps, without the blazing hot sun, I was able to catch up the team’s pace with no sweat, no pain at all due to recognizing bad seating positions. Fifth day was a resting day, with only 18km flat to the next place we were stayin, and the people with energy went riding to other places, I of course don’t have the energy. Sixth day is a climbing day, not only the total distance being 115km, we have to climb up a 500m mountain in 20km with almost to none downhill breaks during the climb, with the total climbing height being 750m. I got carried up the first 5-10km due to being too slow to the team, however I did climb at least 3/4 of the mountain. Seventh day was devastating for me, as we had to also climb 700m height in total, yet being averaged to the whole day with 4 100m height hills instead of only a mountain. Because of yesterday’s climbing, I had to rest on the car due to not having enough stamina, and only rode the downhill parts, about 50km. Eighth day was the day with 81km yet all downhill. We basically breathed through the entire way even getting there before noon. I had no problems with this day’s route. Ninth day, we went to ride a train to avoid the places that were too dangerous to ride. Total 45km flat, had some problems with my eggs being rubbed against my skin, but ok. Last day, 80km with some small hills with the total climbing height being 200 meters. I had some problems going uphill put no major problems, only that the sun was really hot. And yeah after going home tested positive for COVID. fak.
