A teenager driving by me today threw a water balloon out the window of their car and hit me while I was doing about 25mph. There was another teenager sitting in the trunk of the SUV recording me with his phone as they drove away. Please watch out for this kind of thing in case it’s some kind of social media trend right now and could happen in other areas. Edit: whoa this blew up! Glad people know about this, it’s just one more thing to watch out for. We all have close call stories and I hope everyone stays safe. Going to stop responding to comments now. Did my first 100 Km on my road bike yesterday. 2 Bottles of water, 2 Granola Bars and Energy Gel. Almost gave up in between 40th and 50th Km, but just pedalled my way through. After 85 km I just felt like I was flying. Enjoyed the ride and now the psychological barrier is behind me. Looking forward for more of these 100km+ rides.

Ohne polizeiliche Aufnahme wird der Unfall in keiner Unfallstatistik landen. Dadurch hält sich die Behauptung: man müsse doch garnichts für den Radausbau unternehmen, denn die Zahlen belegen keine Unfallhäufigkeit. Entscheidungsträger in den oberen Etagen schauen halt nur auf Zahlen, diese haben u.U. nichts mit der Realität zu tun. **Unfallschwerpunkte werden nicht entschärft und keine Gegenmaßnahmen eingeleitet.** 2. ein Unfall Auto-Fahrrad ist immer auch ein Unfall mit Personenschaden. Unter Schock/ Adrenalin ist es unmöglich dies realistisch einschätzen zu können. Nicht jede Verletzung ist sichtbar. Ein ärztlicher Unfallbericht kann im nachhinein segenreich sein z.B. bei Langzeitfolgen. Bei Wegeunbfall ab zum Durchgangsarzt. 3. I was able to join an awesome group ride doing a 200k ride and tagged on an extra 25 miles of my own on the front end, bringing my ride total for the day up to 150. My previous best ride was 163, but it's been over five years since I rode that distance and I'm gearing up for a 200 mile ride this weekend to break my distance PR. Here are some random notes and thoughts from the ride: * I ate about 1900 calories worth of food and drink in addition to a big meal beforehand, as well as about 96 oz of water. While I never felt bonked or anything during the ride, I was ravenously hungry and tired for the rest of the following day. I definitely think I'll need to up calorie intake for my next long ride. * Butt, palms, feet, and neck were the hardest hit areas of my body. While riding home within the last mile I still felt focused and not too worn out, but the discomfort in those areas was definitely compelling me to stop. I've heard of some good strengthening exercises for my neck, but if anyone has any further recommendations I'd love to hear it. Also considering grabbing and trying out some insoles for my cycling shoes because I'm not sure if I have the right type. * Mentally it makes such a huge difference to have people to ride with and talk to. 100+ mile rides by yourself are lonesome lonesome. The quickest miles for me were ones where I was able to chat with other riders. I'd rather go at a slower pace with good conversation than just pound away miles in a paceline where there's no real talking, even if it's much faster. * Bike maintenance is so helpful. I took some time to make sure everything on my drivetrain was cleaned and lubed and all my cages and stuff were set up right, my bags were sensible and secured, etc. Not having to worry about that stuff or think about it on the ride was such a huge help. You can't always control whether or not you'll flat or something like that, but not having to slow down for or even really think about mechancial issues is such a huge help. * A bit of time off the bike does wonders. Just 5-10 minutes after a couple hours of riding can help tremendously to shake out some aches and, even though it can be hard to get back on the bike, I definitely felt refreshed after a few minutes of riding. tl;dr: going long is fun, but make sure you eat enough.

I've read that Paraffin wax is the best to use but part of my motivation is to melt up some of the old candles laying around the house rather than buy a bag of wax specifically for the task. How important is it to use paraffin wax or could I achieve the same result with what I have laying about? A mixture of beeswax, gel, soybean wax or some other plant wax candles??

Hallo Community, bin gerade von einem rechtsabbiegenden, nichtblinkenden Auto vom Rad geholt worden. Bin selbst bis auf ein paar Schürfer unversehrt. Mein Rad hat leider auch was abbekommen. Habe mit der Unfallgegnerin Daten getauscht / Perso fotografiert und auch die Daten von einem Zeugen eingeholt. Außerdem habe ich der UG Fotos vom Fahrrad für die Versicherung zukommen lassen. Nun zur eigentlichen Frage - muss ich das Ganze selbst noch irgendwo melden oder warte ich dass die Versicherung der UG auf mich zukommt? Eventuell mit dem Rad zum Shop um den Schaden schätzen zu lassen?

Shared use paths in the UK

Am I alone in finding many of these shared use paths totally inadequate to the point of being no go on a bike. I don't bomb along them and am mindful of other users, but just today I had a dog attempt to play with my front wheel. I was travelling slowly and had given it enough space to react, but still had to brake hard and apparently that was my fault! The path in question was actually part of the national cycle network too.
