Ich fange an zu träumen: Nehmen wir einmal an, die Inzidenzwerte sinken irgendwann wieder und Campingplätze haben wieder geöffnet. Wo könnte man vom Großraum Köln aus gut hinfahren, um ein langes Wochenende lang mit dem Rennrad ein paar schöne Touren zu fahren? Klar, ich könnte auch einfach von zu Hause aus losradeln. Aber ich habe auch Mal wieder richtig Bock auf Camping. Ich dachte erstmal an Nordschwarzwald. Das ist aber für ein langes Wochenende doch ein Stück zu fahren. Wie sieht es so dazwischen aus? Hunsrück, Pfalz, Mosel, Eifel? Kann da jemand was empfehlen? Tourengebiete und vielleicht auch schöne Plätze? Vielen Dank für eure Tipps.

The title is pretty self explanatory and I am sorry if it is too long. TLDR will be posted at bottom so I am a 26F, I currently have a car (2012 Chevy Sonic) that I’ve been having a ton of issues with for the past year. I’ve been able to slowly fix things with my dad’s help, my fiancé’s help and stimulus check help, but currently I’m having even more issues with my car that are frustrating me to all hell. Some of the issues are that I need my struts and shocks replaced. I also curb checked recently that I haven't gotten professionally diagnosed yet, but it seems to be suspension issues with the noise it's making. As well as brake fluid leaking and an oil gasket leak. The last time I went to the mechanic they estimated me a little over 900 to replace the struts and shocks as well as fixing my oil leak, but I can't afford it. Especially now that I have a new job where I am making less than I was before and maybe more issues increasing which will cost me more. I also don’t want to bother my dad and my fiancé to fix my issues either even though it is a cheaper option, just more work and frustration for them. I hate having a car, I never liked having a car, and I never had planned to get my license. I just got it because I was tired of people bothering me to give me rides, and then complaining when they were the ones offering. Also a lot of peer pressure. I didn't officially get a car until I was 20, before then I mostly took the bus everywhere, ubered or again, people gave me rides. I enjoyed taking the bus, I took it all year round. Rain or snow, I did what I could to get around. I have always wanted to cycle, but my mom was a big no no on it because her thinking is “if you don’t want a car and can barely drive a car, how could you possibly handle biking?’ and my dad is all for it, he thinks it's a great idea and is recommending me ebikes. He even cycles to work occasionally, but recently stopped when he hurt his knee biking in a rainstorm. I understand my mom is concerned about my safety, especially after my dad had his injury, but I wouldn’t bike in the rain, snow or any bad weather. I’d take the bus or uber if I catch the bad weather early enough. I’ve made a PROS and CONS list PROS: Saving money as I won’t need to spend on gas, registration, licensing, and/or expensive repairs. Exercise which I desperately need. Biking relaxes me and helps me clear my head, driving a car increases my frustrations. Helps the environment. Fresh air. My job has showers so I can shower when I get to work. CONS: Weather, especially living in the Midwest where our weather gets bipolar... sweaty, shopping limitations, places to park and lock my bike up, bike has more chance of getting stolen, people not paying attention to bikers. So I'm stuck on my decision, I was curious if anyone had any tips on bikes, equipment, or even advice on cycling as a main transport. ​ TLDR: Car has too many issues, I cant afford to fix them and am thinking of getting rid of my car and cycling instead, but need advice first.

A couple days have passed now. On Saturday I was going down a bridleway and a dog came out of nowhere causing me to swerve and crash, I was going at a fair pace. Brake levers completely scuffed up, skin missing from my chin, hands, elbows and knees, oh and I must have chomped down hard cos the bridge the holds my front fake tooth came out... bummer. The dog and owner were never seen again. On Monday I got back on the bike to go to work, obviously feeling pretty delicate and cautious. Unbelievably, a car turns up a road and cuts me off in the cycle lane. I go straight into their back door. A couple more cuts to add to my knees plus bruising on my elbows and shoulders. A stiff neck and headache to top it off a day later. I distinctly remember thinking before hitting the car "ffs, not again". I was lucky enough that one of the witnesses to the RTC was an off duty policeman who also had front and rear dashcams running. I just received the videos tonight and I can't stop watching them, I appear to be a lucky man cos it's so close to being far worse than just a couple bruises and cuts. I'm also lucky enough to be a member of CyclingUK and they're helping me figure out what to do. I've always had a game plan in the back of my head on what to do if I'm in a crash with a car - I got my phone straight out of my pocket and snapped the back of the car, I then got on my notes app and started taking the details of the driver straight away, moving around to any witnesses. What I've since discovered is in those situations you may make mistakes typing in notes. Next time I'm just going to film everything and talk over it. This get's me though, "next time", I'm already thinking about the next time I'm going to have an incident with a car. It's inevitable. Anyway, I'm fine and feeling pretty lucky after watching the footage. I'm sure it'll take me a few more rides to get my confidence fully back, but hopefully it'll be back. Sorry for the rambling. I guess, all that to say, does anyone here run a 'dashcam' of sorts whilst cycling? I was lucky this time with the policeman but probably not in the future. Are GoPro's or similar the standard thing for most cyclists? I've also seen the Cycliq stuff but that's so pricey, is it really worth it over an action cam?
