This week a group of riders came across me. I thought, why not turn around, catch m and ask if i can join them. So i did. Only to realise these were not so easy to catch. Soon i was riding my top and i was only slightly getting closer. Then another bigger group came in front of them from another turn which delayed me a bit more. I manage to pass them after some jiggling behind them and keep pressing my pursuit. I know my only hope is delays in their ride, if not i can forget about catching them. After makin a wrong turn and realising it quickly i keep going to finally see them waiting at a stoplight. Now is my chance. I cross the stoplights that just jumped red but there is no traffic passing yet, so i keep goin. And then i catch m after riding my topeffort for several km, with a pretty long bridge hill climb in it as well. Im delighted. I know this is a pretty fast group and ask if i can join m. Sure one say´s, were goin over there not sure u into that (like a 65 km ride). No problem i say, lets go (i didnt said \`lets go, but thinkin it). I ask the older man that rides behind if he also rides in front. No way he says, too fast for me. He is talkin bout speeds over 40km an hour. I wasnt too sure about that, so i ask him how fast are we goin now? 38 he says. Didnt seemed like it, but thats probably because of riding in the back. Its ofcourse so much easier in the back. But at some point im asking if i can ride in front for a lil bit. I ride my top for a minute or so to be quickly surpassed by one of the front riders again, nevertheless good effort and a reasonable pace. \`nice\` one says. Shattered but that doesnt matter, i can catch up again behind. But then while im cruising and resting a bit in the back they suddenly shift gears and throw out some extra speed. Im caught off guard and before i know it there is a huge gap appearing. They are not gonna wait for me. Im still a bit tired from that front ride and there i am in front of a decision... I can let them go or... give it my all to catch m up. Let them go, hang around here in a place i never been, drag my ass home (defeated, meaning it will be a very long ride) or.... give it my all. Let them go... or give it my all. U have to choose now. FCK IT i say! LETS GO! LETS FN GO! GIVE IT ALL I GOT" EVERYTHING! ALL,... CATCH M OR DIE" YOU DIE IF U DONT CATCH M, i tell myself. YOU WILL DIE! RIDE.. RIDE! RIDE! And so i did. I gave it all. All i had. There was no pain. Pain does not exist i told myself. Pain does not exist! I ignored all fatique, All i did was peddling as hard as i could. I had to guess which way they went on a crossway but remembered they said where they were goin so i followed that sign. And soon after that i got them in sight again. And again the only reason i could get closer was because of by passengers and what not. there were no stoplights anymore though. I got closer and closer and almost cheered too soon because i still had to close a gap of like ten meters. So the gap got a little bigger again. But i managed to ditch out one final effort... and then i finally catched up again. I did not die. I won. For them it was nothing. For me... it might actually be the biggest accomplishment of my life now i think about it. I was stoked i made it back. I made it. I fn did it! Nobody mentioned i made it back. But i could tell after that i had gained respect. They talked more to me, sayin i could ride more with them. From that part on i was a part of the group. I jumped up in places riding hard in place after the second guy in a train. And didnt got caught ofguard anymore when they were speeding up again sometimes. It was fn awesome. Close to the end two men said it was goin well and that i did good. 🙂

I’m starting to get back into cycling and I’m curious what other folks carry on their rigs for regular, everyday rides. I know it’s a good idea to carry a spare tube or two but I just replaced a punctured tube and I don’t know if I’d be able to do it out in the wild. I had a hell of a time getting my tire bead to seat correctly on the rim. Ended up having to use my dad’s air compressor. I really don’t know if my tiny hand pump would do the trick. Right now I’ve got one spare inner tube, plastic tire levers, an M19 multi-tool, water, and a couple Lara bars. What else would you more experienced riders bring? I’m mostly focused on maintenance but all suggestions are welcome. P.S. I don’t have any spare chain links but I’ve never had a chain break on me and even if it did, I’m not sure I have the knowledge to replace a link. Would probably just walk the bike home or call someone for a ride. Edit: Wow, did not expect this post to blow up like this. Thank you everyone for the suggestions!

Moin zusammen! Habe mich nun entschieden mir mal ne Radlerhose zuzulegen da ich täglich so 30-40km fahre und das mit normalen Shorts doch irgendwann unangenehm am Gemächt reibt und rubbelt. Aber was brauch ich da? Rennradhosen? MTB-Hosen? Trekking?!? ;-)
