Learn to clean and maintain your bike. It is very very important to know how to fix your bike on the side of the road or at home. But please, if you dont have proper tools or you really arent sure what to do, even after watching YT or reading through forums - take the bike to your LBS. At least ask for tips or advice. Yes, not everyone can pay for it or can afford it or any financial sorts in that moment. I am aware of that. But please im telling you this as someone who is on the other side of that interaction. I see a lot of customers bodge something and make the mistakes be more costly than they actually had to be. It is really cool to try to fix your bike on your own and any knowledge is only a bonus in life. But if you aren't sure but cant afford to send your bike to LBS - at least come and ask for advice. 9 times out 10, we'd be more than happy to help and talk with you. Reason for the post: customer came in today with totally broken rear wheel after riding. Was told at the end, that they weren't sure as to really what they were doing when tightening the spokes and it ended up being a mechanical error mid-ride. Edit 1: instead of paying 15€ for tensioning and truing, it ended up being over 100€, since the rear wheel is totally fucked and needs new one

I moved here from the hill country of New Hampshire. I knew it was going to be bad riding here but, Jesus jumping Christ, I had no idea it would be this bad. I made the mistake of looking up the Coast to Coast trail and it’s basically a big stretch of ugly concrete. I don’t even want to get out on my road bike because the entire southern half of the state is nothing but developments and strip malls and it seems as though the state takes the very notion of bike infrastructure as a personal insult. Don’t even get me started on the drivers! How do those of you who know how bad it is to ride here keep yourselves from getting majorly depressed?

Hallo, Ich habe gestern etwas derartiges erlebt. Wurde mit etwa ~40 KmH vom Beifahrer mit etlichen Lebensmitteln beworfen (und getroffen). Habe dann zuhause interessehalbe bei der örtlichen Polizeiinspektion angerufen (nicht Notfallnr) um mich zu erkundigen ob es sich lohnt da Anzeige zu erstatten, da ich nur nicht das genaue Modell und nur das halbe Nummernschild habe (Vorfall war nachts). Die Dame hatte mich dann aufgeklärt, dass man schließlich nicht jedes Mal gegen groben Unfug ermitteln könne, und dass sich häufig Menschen melden, deren Autos mit Eiern beworfen würden, das sei selten eine tatsächliche Straftat. Hallo? Bin ich ein tonnenschweres Blechgerüst oder ein Mensch? Habe dann die Empfehlung bekommen, die Onlinewache zu kontaktieren. Ist jetzt halt nicht soo befriedigend, und Ich interpretiere das definitiv als Körperverletzung, jemanden aus einem schnell fahrenden Auto zu bewerfen. Habt ihr ähnliche Erfahrungen? Kann man da irgendwas machen?

How do some of you keep it going, I started cycling a couple years ago, started with strictly mountain bikes and then slowly progressed to a road bike, moved homes and got closer to work so i started riding the bike to work. now its winter and the cold just took it out of me. I haven't sat on my bike for weeks, I don't have a lot of money to invest in cold weather gear this season and just feel the winter blues creeping in. maybe pick up a used kicker or something? i want to keep riding but im just not feeling it. i don't know what to do. guess its just winter depression or some shit idk.

Plans and dreams for 2022

With 2021 coming to a close it's time to finalize the plans (and dreams) for 2022, isn't it? I plan on maintaining the amout of overall riding in general. Adding a couple of races, potentially one abroad (Italy maybe?), would be nice. I also have two projects in the very-long-ride-department planned, 300+km. Having never done more than 220, I'm quite excited to see how those projects go. I'm also very keen on getting my MTB rebuilt into a gravel. All the parts have finally arrived, now it's on to the actual building. I wonder when I'll find the time for this though, with skiing season having started :-) When it comes to dreams, I'm thinking of ... French Alps, Monte Zoncolan, designing my own jersey (and maybe bibs) What are your plans and dreams?
