Hi everyone, I was cycling to work today and a man in a white van threw something at me. I think it was food. It hit me square in the chest. I've been cycling on the road for quite a while but this is the first time something like this has happened. I'm a woman if that makes a difference. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance from other cyclists. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it something I should just expect if I'm road cycling? Thanks. I'm within a few months of being an empty nester. I've been getting my a$$ handed to me on training rides by guys 5-7 years older. This weekend I found out one of them does 2 half-irons/year despite being a very senior corporate america guy. Felt humbled upon humbled. I remarked on this to one of them, his response: "Um obviously ivbivb, because our kids have flown the coop. We have the time back to train every day, several hours on weekends, while still doing our jobs AND spending time with our spouses". That...was spectacular motivation. Didn't even occur to me - if I spend 50% of the time on cycling/running that I did with my kids, the other 50% with my spouse, I too might actually be half decent at this some day. That day isn't today, probably not tomorrow, but perhaps in a few years! That's exciting!
