My dad and his friend got into cycling a couple years ago, when the UK lockdowns started, after a lifetime of being couch potatoes . Weather was beautiful, they leisurely potted around for hours on end multiple times a week. After a few months, they decided to enter a charity fondo; The Nello 2021. 100 mile ride around Exmoor in Devon, around 1500m(5000ft) of elevation. They weren't looking to compete, but rather just get round. Being 20 years younger and rather fit, I agreed to pace them around the course in a manner that ensured they'd get round whilst simultaneously ensure they would finish the same day they started. It was a huge success. Although the weather was torrential rain the entire way, we completed the course in around 8 hours (my garmin had it down as 2000m/6500ft of elevation!). They were tired at the end, understandable. Few weeks go by and they've both been bitten by the bug and decided to try tackle the 2022 Dartmoor Classic. A gruelling 109 mile ride across some of the toughest terrain in the UK. 2800m/9200ft of elevation with ridiculous winds and add wild sheep, cows and horses to the mix. They asked me once again to pace them across, to which, of course, I agreed. This time there is a cut off time. I told them in order to achieve this, they would both need to train a little smarter, otherwise they would not elmeet the time. Fast forward 10 months, A month to go until the event. They've both had bike fits. They've trained through the winter. They both have gone out multiple times a week, consistently doing 80+ mile rides which featured hills. I rode with them a couple weeks ago, I thought they may have to slow down for me! I was really impressed with their dedication. Saturday just gone, they go for a ride around Dartmoor, to recce the course. 8 miles into a ride, decending on a steep hill, my dad's friend is seen to slump over the handlebars at 30-40mph. Appearing not to be in control of the bike, he just collapses, slides along the floor for as my dad recalls "forever". My dad rushes over to see if he's ok. There's no response, eyes are open but he's vacant. He's breathing. Blood gushing down the road and a bad bump on the side of his head. A bystander stops in a van who is a trainee paramedic, gives him a once over and states he needs to get to the hospital... now. The ever pressured ambulance service couldn't send anyone out for a few hours, so this hero of a man throws him in the van and drives him to the major trauma centre. After 6 hours in A&E (actually surprised it was this fast), he's had numerous tests done. CT head was all clear. ECG didn't show anything. Blood sugar all good, no apparent cause for this collapse. He's advised not to drive nor ride until the underlying cause for the episode is identified, which he will need to have investigated by his GP. He has no recollection of the event. He definitely won't be doing the Dartmoor Classic this year, so my dad and I will tackle it as a duo. Really gutted for him for putting in all this training for it to be torn away from under him. I fear that given there is no identified cause (I suspect there won't be one) he will understandably lose his confidence in cycling. What do you think could have caused this incident? He was not dehydrated. He was well rested, and was only 8 miles into the ride. Was not a hypo, is not diabetic either. Never had a seizure.

Das nervt doch irgendwann oder meint ihr nicht? Mein Vorschlag wäre diese Art von Posts nur an bestimmten Tagen, z.B. nur Montags und Dienstags zu erlauben. Andere Subreddits machen das auch so wenn eine bestimme Art von Posts zu sehr den Sub vollspammt. Ich meine wenn man sich diese Posts eine Weile lang reinzieht möge man fast denken die ganze Welt würde Radfahrer hassen und diskriminieren. Das entspricht nicht der Realität. Wir müssen doch nicht jeden Vollidioten hier posten, [wie diesen hier zuletzt.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fahrrad/comments/une16q/radfahrer_nehmt_endlich_r%C3%BCcksicht_auf_autofahrer/) Das ist ein Vorschlag um die Qualität des Subreddits zu verbessern und neue nutzer zu Gewinnen. Ich kann mir vorstellen dass viele diesen Subreddit gar nicht erst besuchen aus diesem Grund. Bei den englischen Rad Subreddits wird so etwas so gut wie nie gepostet, die Leute dort fahren lieber Rad anstatt den ganzen Tag zu meckern.

Moin, entschuldigt den Clickbait Titel. Ich fahre recht viel mit meinen Rennrad durch das schöne Angeln und freue mich jedes mal über die vielen Kalorien, die ich bei den Radtouren verbrenne (weil ich dann wieder hemmungslos Döner nachschieben kann Ü). Letzt hatte ich aus Interesse den Kalorienverbauch in Kilowattstunden umgerechnet und war dann doch etwas erstaunt: Mein Kalorienverbrauch laut strava beträgt bummelig 3000kcal/100~~kWh~~ km. Umgerechnet in Kilowattstunden entspricht das etwa 3,5kWh. Nun habe ich zu Hause eine Zoe stehen, und habe daher einen guten Bezug mit wie viel Energie man wie weit kommt. Die Zoe verfährt (im Sommer, mit 4 Leuten beladen) etwa **15kWh/100km** bei einer Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von etwa 50km/h, laut Cockpit-Anzeige (Mischung aus Stadt- und Überlandverkehr). Fahren nun 4 Flarnes die 100km mit halber Geschwindigkeit würden sie etwa 4\*3,5kWh = **14kWh/100km** für die Strecke verbrauchen. Vielleicht etwas weniger, wenn sie das Windschattenfahren optimiert hätten) Natürlich ist die Strava-Schätzung von 3000kcal nur geschätzt und eine Well to wheel Betrachtung beider "Fortbewegungsarten" würde nochmal ganz anders aussehen, aber dennoch hat mich dieser geringe Unterschied zwischen 4 Fahrradfahrern und einen EAuto auf 100km/h hat doch sehr erstaunt. Hab ich irgendwas übersehen, oder ist die Zahl von 3,5kWh für 100km Radfahren pro Person realistisch. ​ Edit: Einheiten korrigiert.

Ich möchte nicht mit den Büroklamotten fahren, zum einen sind mir die Anzughosen zu teuer zum verschleissen auf diesem Weg und zum anderen fahre ich gern sportlich, auch auf so kurzen Strecken. Dusch- und Unkleidemöglichkeiten stehen komfortablerweise zur Verfügung. Langer Rede kurzer Sinn: Mindestens Hose und Hemd sollen knitterfrei zwischen Wohnung und Büro hin- und hertransportiert werden. Meine momentane Variante stellt mich nicht so zufrieden, daher wollte ich mal fragen, wie ihr das so macht und welche total überzeugenden Produkte ihr so verwendet.
