Bin gerade am Brandenburger Tor an einem verunglückten Fahrradfahrer (ich weiß nicht sicher, ob es einen Unfall mit Beteiligung von PKW gab, daher „verunglückt“) vorbeigekommen. Er lag mit dem blutenden Gesicht nach unten auf der Fahrbahn, Helm auf dem Kopf und bewusstlos. Viele tolle Menschen haben sich um ihn gekümmert, der Krankenwagen kam gerade an und zum Glück keine Gaffer, daher bin ich weiter, aber das Bild war furchtbar. Der Anblick hat mich echt die ganze Heimfahrt nicht losgelassen. Nur ein friendly reminder: verlasst euch nicht auf die anderen Verkehrsteilnehmer und darauf, dass sie sich an die Regeln halten. Irgendwie kann immer was passieren. Wartet lieber ne Sekunde länger (auch wenn man das nicht müssen sollte), nehmt die dunkelgelbe Ampel im Zweifel lieber nicht mit und bremst lieber ein Mal zu viel. Ich möchte keinen von euch mal so liegen sehen, wie den armen Kerl vorhin. An dieser Stelle: gute Besserung, ich hoffe sehr, dass du wieder gesund wirst und außer nem großen Schrecken nichts zurückbleibt. Also: Passt auf euch auf, egal wohin ihr gerade radelt.

Okay, so here I am thinking that I would take to cycling quickly because I am a very fit individual and run a lot. Need me to go run 26 miles this afternoon? cool. No problem. What's that? Oh—you need me to ride up this relatively short moderate slope at the end of my 10-mile ride? Not so fast there buddy. By the time I got to the top, I was peddling SO slowly and absolutely gassed. Y'all are badasses. This sport is TOUGH! Big ups and respect to all y'all. Can't wait to grow up and be like you.

Pre-edit: This got away from me and got longer than I intended, so thanks for reading it if you do. TL;DR - Dad gave me a bike I never could have (or would have) bought for myself. It feels great to ride, but I feel like an imposter and don't want other cyclists seeing me as such. I'm a fat 28 y/o dude, and my dad and I took up cycling, originally 10 years ago, for general fitness. Neither of us ever really became un-fat dudes, but we went through ebbs and flows of being really into cycling vs. not having the time/enthusiasm for it. Still, we loved it and accomplished some cool things (my dad finished the full Hotter 'n' Hell 100 in TX twice, furthest I ever rode was 60-ish miles). Anyway, I digress. I've spent the last year really focusing on my health and fitness, but ironically with no cycling. Through diet, weight training and some running, I've lost 89 pounds so far (327-238) and still have 40-ish to go, but I have two young kids and cycling is hard to fit into our busy schedule. Dad hasn't been taking care of his health either, but tells me he wants to and wants to get on his bikes again, so we go for a casual ride a couple weekends ago. Just 10 miles around a pleasant lake in the Dallas area. Like I said, I hadn't been in the saddle for over a year at that point, so while my taint was positively on fire, I felt GREAT otherwise. I kept an aggressive pace that I would've struggled at even at my best (the 60-mile ride in 2015) and I could tell my breathing, heart rate, everything was so much better. So we get back and my dad says I did so well that he wants to give me one of his bikes. Well, turns out it's not just any bike, it's an S-Works Tarmac with SRAM Red components, carbon Zipp wheels, a matching S-Works helmet... the works. He likes his toys and bikes are certainly that for him, but this is something I could never dream to afford myself - truly extravagant. And my bike before was hardly an old beater - a carbon Cannondale Synapse that I paid for over time. We took the bikes back this past Saturday, looped the lake twice for 21 miles, and again I felt great. Easily could've ridden double that, set an aggressive pace on the first lap, had a goal to maintain the pace second lap, and I did. Thing is... I was extremely self-conscious on the bike. I got actual, vocalized "nice bike" comments a couple times from much more serious cyclists overtaking me, and all I wanted to say was "thanks, it was a gift." I feel like I look like a poser, wearing or riding $8k worth of stuff as a still significantly overweight cyclist. Am I just overthinking this? Or should I hang up the S-Works and stick to my Cannondale until I feel like I've "earned" it a bit more? Also, and either way, what are the best options for bike insurance? The thought of something happening on a ride and irreparably damaging the frame also really detracted from the experience lol.

Kurz zur mir: bin 31 Jahre alt, Vater von 2 Kindern 3 und 5 sind entlich soweit um selber Fahrrad zu Fahren und kurze Touren mit Papa zu machen. Ich selber fahre schon seit 5 Jahren Rennrad und Gravel als Hobby und als Pendler. Was ich in letzter Zeit leider miterlebt habe : Wir wohnen in München Fürstenried, an unserer Wohnanlage laüft ein Park mit Rad/Spazierweg der weiter entlang der A95 richtung Forstenrieder Wald und Starnberg gehet. Radfahrer aus München SüdWest kennen die Strecke bestimmt. So jetzt starte ich mit meinen Kindern die noch nicht 100% die Regeln bzw die Kontrolle haben aber die lieben das und Lernen noch, und fahre durch diesen Park auf dem relativ breitem Radweg, die Strecke ist oft die Start oder Schlussetappe für Radtouren der “Profis” und die sausen mit 40kmh da durch ohne Rücksicht dass da jemand hiner der Kurve Spazieren könnte oder das da Kinder auch Radfahren und sind verärgert das die Bremsen Müssen und entweder Agresiv auf die Klingel oder Schreien “AUS DEM WEG” oder “RECHTS FAHREN” ziemlich scheisse wenn mann mit Kindern da unterwegs ist und die in solchen situationen erschrecken oder gar stürzen vor der Kurve. Ich weiss es sind nicht alle so aber min 60% sind so, und ich musste mich auch ein paar mal streiten da die anhalten und mir erklären wollen das da Kinder nicht sein sollten er kann ja nicht langsamer fahren. A couple years ago I was 310 pounds and wanted to try to get healthier. I bought a cheaper hybrid bicycle and started cycling. I remember being gassed around mile 12 and walking my bike up hills more often than not. I’m now a much leaner 230 and enjoy hills in my road bike. I also completed my first imperial century yesterday. If I can do it then so can you. Keep pedaling.
