Okay, so imo fears of hypotranemia have been a trend in hydration discussions. This has led me for the couple of years to drink a lot less water while working out and after, either on the rollers or on a ride ("drink to thirst"). Well, during that time, I've also had periods of prolonged fatigue, mental fogginess, central cyanosis, stiff back and back pain while sleeping, and a host of other issues it seems. ​ A few days ago, for some reason, I thought to myself: I wonder if I should consume salt water during/after a workout and how much exactly I should? The answer is yes. I did a short ride last night (less than 1 hr, but it was hot). I weighed myself before and after, lost 1.6lbs. I found recommendations of 220-500mg sodium/lb lost and 500ml-1000ml water/lb lost. So, I drank like 32oz of water with a 1/4 tsp salt mixed in. Within 30 minutes I felt better than I had after a hot workout in a long, long time. I had no back pain at night. Bowl movement was perfect and comfortable this morning compared to the past couple of months. I feel mentally sharp and ready for my day. ​ TL;DR: I sweat profusely to the point of having visible salt on my body after exercise. I should drink salt water as part of proper (re)hydration. I likely have been suffering from chronic dehyrdation for that last few years due to improper rehydration efforts. I'm also curious, what home made electrolytes ratios do others use?
