Das Land Baden-Württemberg hat beschlossen, einen Rad-Schnellweg zwischen Mannheim und Heidelberg zu bauen. Es sollte ein Pilot-Projekt werden, mit einer Strahlwirkung in andere Regionen, um zu zeigen was hier so alles in kurzer Zeit möglich ist. Das war 2017. Der erste Spatenstich wird nach aktuellem Stand 2026 sein. Als Begründung für die Verzögerung (hauptsächlich auf Heidelberger Seite) nennt der Heidelberger Oberbürgermeister ein komplexes Geflecht von sich widerstrebenden Interessen. **\*record scratch*** Auf einer der Hauptdurchfahrtsstraßen in Heidelberg ist ein lokaler Unternehmer mit den fehlenden Abstellmöglichkeiten für Fahrräder so frustriert, dass er bei Amazon einen Fahrradständer kauft und einfach auf den fahrbahnbegleitenden Parkstreifen stellt. Innerhalb eines Tages wird das Ding auch von der Community angenommen und ist tagsüber permanent mit Fahrrädern besetzt. Die Stadt pocht auf Entfernung des ungenehmigten Ständers. Also stellt der Mann einfach sein eigenes Rad jeden Morgen auf dem Parkstreifen ab, und auch hier gesellen sich jeden Tag bis zu einem Dutzend anderer Räder dazu. Das ist zwar völlig legal *(Fahrräder dürfen überall abgestellt werden wo sie niemanden gefährden oder behindern, also selbstverständlich auch auf Parkplätzen)*, aber den örtlichen Sheriffs trotzdem ein Dorn im Auge. Sie fordern, die Räder zu entfernen. Räder dürften hier nicht abgestellt werden, da dies ein bewirtschafteter Parkraum sei und es nicht möglich sei, an einem Rad manipulationssicher eine Parkscheibe anzubringen. Statt klein beizugeben, wird eskaliert bis zum Chef des Verkehrsmanagements, der dann auch persönlich vorbeischaut und zusagt, dass er sich aufgrund des offensichtlichen Bedarfs für das Aufstellen eines Fahrradständers einsetzen wird. Aber leider gebe es da ein komplexes Geflecht von sich widerstrebenden Interessen, und da käme die Stadtverwaltung an ihre Grenzen...

Started cycling on my MTB, yesterday.

I'm too fat to ride my road bike, right now, so I started with my MTB, a Trek 800 Singletrack from the early 2000s, with the original knobby tires. I know this isn't ideal, but until my gut is smaller, it's what I gotta do. (Yes, I've changed my diet to lose weight, and it's working.) I haven't ridden since 2017. I'm 50 years old. My neighborhood has a lot of small hills that are hard for me to climb, but I did it! I have 3 chainrings, and was on the middle one, with the biggest cog in the rear. I felt like giving up, but I didn't. I only rode for about 15 minutes, and less than 2 miles, but it's a start! I'm taking today off, to give my quads more time to recover.

Hi cyclists of Reddit This morning, I believe I nearly missed a cyclist (perhaps one of you) in a large roundabout close to Bourne End (Buckinghamshire - England). I merged into the roundabout and immediately took the first exit, without noticing you were already in the lane and also about to exit. That is, I guess, what happened, as I only really consciously noticed you after I exited the roundabout. You started shouting “wanker” and “come back here” behind me (while making some hand gestures). Sorry that I gave you the finger at first, I thought the shouting was coming from another car and couldn’t understand what had happened for a few seconds. Anyway, when it dawned on me, I felt terrible. I’m very sorry, there was a lot of movement on the road and you could have been badly hurt or worse. I will be sure to be more careful from now on. If you are the cyclist in question, I owe you a kick on my car’s bumper or a pint, whichever you feel is more fitting. Anyway, bring in the downvotes. I deserve them.

Auf die Frage ob man mit dem Auto auch nur überholen darf wenn man vorher gehupt hat und der andere signalisiert hat, dass er dich wahrgenommen hat wurde gesagt, dass sei ja etwas völlig anderes. Anderes Beispiel: Viele sind der Überzeugung man dürfte beim Radfahren keine Musik hören darf, sagen aber gleichzeitig, dass man beim Autofahren natürlich Musik hören darf.

Should I ask for money from a stranger who caused a bike ...

I was riding on the right (correct) side of a bike path going around a blind curve and collided with another cyclist who was riding on the wrong side of the path. We both tried to move out of the way but my front wheel hit his back wheel, got ripped off the frame, and I went over the handlebars. I ended up going to the hospital for x-rays to my shoulder and wrist but luckily had no fractures. However, my Oakleys were broken, I’ll probably have to get a new helmet, potentially a new tire, and my frame may or may not be salvageable. The guy sent me $100 on the spot but I expect the stuff I’ll have to replace/medical bills will be more than that. Is it reasonable to ask for more money down the road? If it was a car crash obviously he would be liable, but people don’t have insurance for bike accidents like they do with car insurance so it’s a bit different.
